Who we're looking for Toyota's Vehicle Performance Development 1 Department is seeking a passionate and highly motivated Safety and Crash Worthiness Engineer. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for developing and confirming crash safety performance for Toyota's North American and global market truck platform vehicles. Reporting to the Senior Manager, R&D Vehicle Performance Development, the person in this role will support the VPD department's objective to deliver exceptional customer experiences by ensuring that safety performance meets high-quality standards. This onsite position is based in Saline, Michigan. The selected candidate will be expected to reside within commutable distance of this location. What You'll Be Doing Lead the crash safety performance development of vehicle components and conduct system evaluations. Set up and execute component-level and system-level evaluations, including computer simulations (CAE), adhering to established standards. Identify key change points and implement appropriate measurement systems. Utilize fundamental engineering principles and physics to develop mechanisms of phenomena. Conduct design reviews to study change points and predict performance trends using engineering calculations and analysis tools. Propose effective countermeasures based on thorough root cause analysis, considering potential side effects and fostering cross-functional communication with evaluation teams. Prepare and present technical analyses of component performance in a logical manner to achieve consensus within the department. Support the analysis and material preparation for target setting and performance strategy planning. Maintain a weekly schedule to track performance and open items, ensuring adherence to internal deadlines. Mentor and lead co-op students, fostering their development and integration into the team. This position may require driving; an acceptable driving record is necessary. Travel up to 20% for both international and domestic assignments. What You Bring Education: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Experience: 2+ years in automotive engineering or a related field. Skills: Strong communication and reporting skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office products, and experience with engineering analysis tools/software. Toyota's Vehicle Performance Development 1 Department is seeking a passionate and highly motivated Safety and Crash Worthiness Engineer. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for developing and confirming crash safety performance for Toyota's North American and global market truck platform vehicles. Your contributions will directly support our mission to create safe vehicles for our customers.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, R&D Vehicle Performance Development, the person in this role will support the VPD department's objective to deliver exceptional customer experiences by ensuring that safety performance meets high-quality standards.

This onsite position is based in Saline, Michigan. The selected candidate will be expected to reside within commutable distance of this location.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the crash safety performance development of vehicle components and conduct system evaluations.

  • Set up and execute component-level and system-level evaluations, including computer simulations (CAE), adhering to established standards. Identify key change points and implement appropriate measurement systems.

  • Utilize fundamental engineering principles and physics to develop mechanisms of phenomena. Conduct design reviews to study change points and predict performance trends using engineering calculations and analysis tools.

  • Propose effective countermeasures based on thorough root cause analysis, considering potential side effects and fostering cross-functional communication with evaluation teams.

  • Prepare and present technical analyses of component performance in a logical manner to achieve consensus within the department. Support the analysis and material preparation for target setting and performance strategy planning.

  • Maintain a weekly schedule to track performance and open items, ensuring adherence to internal deadlines.

  • Mentor and lead co-op students, fostering their development and integration into the team.

  • This position may require driving; an acceptable driving record is necessary.

  • Travel up to 20% for both international and domestic assignments.

What You Bring

  • Education: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

  • Experience: 2+ years in automotive engineering or a related field.
