RESPONSIBILITIES: Install air monitoring devices and associated PLC hardware integration Calibrate and service a wide array of EHS instrumentation Execute industrial hygiene studies to analyze manufacturing byproducts against associated human health thresholds Design and deploy high-resolution EHS signage throughout SpaceX locations Qualify PPE requirements through in-depth hazard analysis and review of consensus agency standards (NIOSH/ANSI, etc.) Monitor air filtration efficacy and perform scheduled preventative maintenance Functional testing of active and passive machine guarding devices in a wide array of applications Document job hazard assessments (JHAs) Perform safety inspections and address deficiencies to mitigate risk Conduct incident investigations and provide recommendations for corrective action Play an active role in emergency response planning Facilitate employee classroom safety training Create lockout/tagout procedures for complex work cells and industrial machinery Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste to include proper handling, labeling, and storage Monitor safety equipment strongholds to ensure supplies are always made readily available Support environmental compliance as required by environmental teams BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree; OR High school diploma or equivalency certificate, with 4+ years of experience implementing and overseeing environmental, health, and safety program PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Mechanically inclined and capable of comprehending basic principles of modern machinery A dedication to the mission of making humanity multiplanetary A sense of curiosity for how things work High level of emotional intelligence and ability to adapt communication styles with all levels of the company Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) Ability to accept constructive criticism and quickly course correct Proven track record of strong organizational skills and multi-tasking capabilities BCSP certification (ASP, CSP, SMS, OHST etc.) ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work split shift: Monday - Friday 10AM – 7PM PT Ability to pass Air Force background check for Vandenberg Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. unassisted Willing to work in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain, wind, open ocean Willingness to work extended hours when needed to meet critical deadlines Ability to pass relevant USCG examinations, federal facility background checks, re-certifications, and chemical testing Position is subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Pay range:        Environmental Health & Safety Specialist /Level 1: $30.00 - $38.00/hour   Environmental Health & Safety Specialist /Level 2: $34.00 - $43.00/hour   Environmental Health & Safety Specialist /Level 3: $38.00 - $48.00/hour                               Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and/or guidelines established by OSHA, NFPA and NIOSH and other applicable regulatory agencies Collaborate with department leadership to complete job hazard assessments and implement health and safety policies and procedures Monitor employee exposure to physical and chemical hazards Understand and implement machine guarding where needed Develop recommendations for remedial actions when safety policies are not met by employees Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations Complete and maintain documented safety observations from regular hazard identification audits Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine root causes, corrective actions and preventive measures Develop, implement and maintain safety contingency plans (fires, spills, etc.) Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations established by the EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, DOT, TRRC, RWQCB, NEPA and other applicable regulatory agencies Review and interpret new and proposed environmental laws and regulations, and provide guidance to management Perform environmental compliance and due diligence audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies Conduct and monitor the NPDES and other discharge permits/plans Maintain recordkeeping and compliance requirements established for permitted sources defined by the local AQMD Responsible for hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, including DOT and RCRA Maintain compliance with the Certified Unified Program Agency BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree 5+ years of experience in the design, development and operational oversight of environmental, health and safety disciplines PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in engineering with an emphasis in occupational health and safety and/or environmental engineering Experience in both environmental and safety fields Experience with implementing and maintaining compliance with storm water regulations Experience with implementing and maintaining compliance with the CEQA regulations Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations Strong organizational and communication skills Familiarity and implementation of machine guarding and industrial hygiene programs Experience with emergency response communication and incident management in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, and water Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Hawthorne, CA area Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Pay range:Environmental Health & Safety Engineer/Senior: $125,000.00 - $175,000.00/per year Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
