Position Duties

The Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences (SLHS) at Loyola University Maryland invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in child communication disorders to begin in July 2026. We are looking for a candidate committed to (1) excellence in graduate and undergraduate education at a dynamic liberal arts university, (2) inclusive teaching practices, and (3) continuing a productive research program. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the University and Department's ongoing commitment and action to promote equity, inclusion, and justice for and with all members of our community.

We seek outstanding candidates from all areas of child and adolescent communication disorders, including articulation, fluency, literacy, receptive/expressive language, and social communication, as well as competence with varying research strategies. Those with clinical expertise in one or more of these areas are particularly encouraged to apply. The candidate selected for this position will teach in both the undergraduate and the master's program in speech-language pathology with at least one or more courses focused on child communication disorders. This position comes with a 3 (fall) and 3 (spring) teaching load, with a reduced load (2-3) during the first year to allow for acclimation to the Department. In addition to teaching, tenure-track faculty at Loyola are expected to maintain a robust scholarly research program, participate in academic advising, and engage in Department and University service with a commitment to the Jesuit mission. The successful candidate will demonstrate an awareness of and interest in high-impact teaching practices that align with the Jesuit mission of educating the whole person - mind, body, and spirit. The University and Department provide support for teaching excellence through workshops, trainings, and peer mentoring.

We highly value a candidate's ability and motivation to collaborate with other faculty members, to share research experiences with our students, and to commit to the Loyola mission to "inspire students to learn, lead, and serve in a diverse and changing world." We are seeking a candidate who understands, respects, and can actively contribute to the University's Jesuit mission and values as we prepare students for lives of professional service and leadership while exploring ethical dimensions of personal and professional life.

In addition to our commitment to our students and the community, there are a plethora of benefits to working at Loyola University Maryland, one of which is that that Loyola University Maryland is a 503-b institution that qualifies towards Public Service Loan Forgiveness programs. Please visit https://www.loyola.edu/department/hr/benefits for a full list of benefits.

Our department offers a B.A. in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences and an M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology, as well as several interdisciplinary degrees. You can learn more about our graduate program and our undergraduate program by visiting our website. Graduate students are trained at the Loyola Clinical Centers their first year, which provides comprehensive clinical education with interprofessional experiences. The Baltimore/Washington region also has top-tier hospitals and schools where our students are placed for clinical training after their first year of graduate studies.

Please contact Dr. Kathleen Siren( KSiren@loyola.edu ) with questions regarding the position.

Priority application date: November 3, 2025.

Required Qualifications: (1) Earned doctoral degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited program in speech-language pathology or related field. ABD candidates who will earn their degree by July 2026 will be considered; (2) Current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA); (3) evidence of effective teaching and use of high-impact practices, as well as the ability to teach courses in areas of need for the department; (4) Active or emerging research agenda; (5) Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; (6) Ability to contribute to the Jesuit Mission and Core Values of the Department and University.

Preferred Qualifications: (1) Prior successful academic or clinical teaching experience as instructor of record at the graduate and/or undergraduate levels; (2) Active research agenda; and (3) Familiarity with accreditation standards (e.g., CAA, ASHA) and clinical education best practices.

Salary range: $82,250 to 83,250

Successful candidates for any staff, faculty, or administrative position at Loyola University Maryland will be subject to a pre-employment background check.
