Kern Medical cares for 15,500 inpatients and 125,000 clinic patients a year. Per Diem employees supplement department staffing needs, with no guarantee of minimum hours. Per Diem minimum scheduling expectation is two (2) shift per four week schedule. Position : Information Technology Systems Engineer - Per Diem Compensation: The estimated pay for this position is $44.8398 to $55.1473. This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position. Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses. Definition: Under direction of the IT Infrastructure Manager, the Systems Engineer role is responsible for building out, maintaining, and troubleshooting our rapidly expanding infrastructure. This position is focused on data center technology to join our rapidly expanding Information Systems Department. The Systems Engineer role will provide support and maintain the core network, server, and storage technology environment for Kern Medical Hospital Authority and locations in outlying areas. Distinguishing Characteristics: This role requires support of acute, ambulatory and correctional facilities including incident response support. This role is also a key contributor to managing the data warehouse functionality and availability. Essential Functions: Maintains infrastructure and newly acquired technologies, such as Pure Storage platforms; Dell, HP, and Cisco UCS platforms; VMware ESXi, VCenter, and Horizon VDI; Microsoft Windows Server; Linux Red Hat Enterprise; CentOS. Responsible for maintaining database systems including SQL, MySQL, Oracle, Cache, and PostgreSQL. Manages and maintains secure access to all supported systems including those that contain protected information (PHI PII, etc.) in accordance with organization polices, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. Configures, deploys, and troubleshoots the Windows and Linux servers. Configures and maintains the storage area network environment. Configures, troubleshoots, and maintains the virtualized server environments. Configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of database environments. Responsible for the systems and applications backups. Maintains the Active Directory, Group Policy configuration and administration. Assists in asset & licensing management, auditing, and reporting. Manages and monitors network, server, and database performance. Monitors the Corporate security protocol administration, preventive and reactive to threats Contributes to the disaster recovery and business continuity planning. Applies network, server, and application security for regulatory compliance (PCI, HIPAA, SOX). Creates and maintains documentation in accordance with Kern Medical requirements Works closely with other IT teams to ensure alignment with all related projects and tasks Performs other duties as assigned Employment Standards: BS/BA in Information Technology field and a minimum of 3 years’ experience or equivalent combination of relevant IT experience. Kern Medical has been a community cornerstone since its founding in 1867. Today, we are an acute care teaching center with 222 beds, offering the only advanced trauma care between Fresno and Los Angeles. Kern Medical cares for 15,500 inpatients and 125,000 clinic patients a year.

  • Per Diem employees supplement department staffing needs, with no guarantee of minimum hours.
  • Per Diem minimum scheduling expectation is two (2) shift per four week schedule.

Position: Information Technology Systems Engineer - Per Diem

Compensation:

The estimated pay for this position is $44.8398 to $55.1473. This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position. Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses.

Definition:

Under direction of the IT Infrastructure Manager, the Systems Engineer role is responsible for building out, maintaining, and troubleshooting our rapidly expanding infrastructure. This position is focused on data center technology to join our rapidly expanding Information Systems Department. The Systems Engineer role will provide support and maintain the core network, server, and storage technology environment for Kern Medical Hospital Authority and locations in outlying areas. 

Distinguishing Characteristics:

This role requires support of acute, ambulatory and correctional facilities including incident response support. This role is also a key contributor to managing the data warehouse functionality and availability.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains infrastructure and newly acquired technologies, such as Pure Storage platforms; Dell, HP, and Cisco UCS platforms; VMware ESXi, VCenter, and Horizon VDI; Microsoft Windows Server; Linux Red Hat Enterprise; CentOS.
  • Responsible for maintaining database systems including SQL, MySQL, Oracle, Cache, and PostgreSQL.
  • Manages and maintains secure access to all supported systems including those that contain protected information (PHI PII, etc.) in accordance with organization polices, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Configures, deploys, and troubleshoots the Windows and Linux servers.
  • Configures and maintains the storage area network environment.
  • Configures, troubleshoots, and maintains the virtualized server environments.
  • Configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of database environments.
  • Responsible for the systems and applications backups.
  • Maintains the Active Directory, Group Policy configuration and administration.
  • Assists in asset & licensing management, auditing, and reporting.
  • Manages and monitors network, server, and database performance.
  • Monitors the Corporate security protocol administration, preventive and reactive to threats
  • Contributes to the disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
  • Applies network, server, and application security for regulatory compliance (PCI, HIPAA, SOX).
  • Creates and maintains documentation in accordance with Kern Medical requirements
  • Works closely with other IT teams to ensure alignment with all related projects and tasks
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Employment Standards:

  • BS/BA in Information Technology field and a minimum of 3 years’ experience or equivalent combination of relevant IT experience.
  • Skilled in the disciplines of technology solutions analysis, planning, and business-technology strategy alignment Advanced installation, administration, and maintenance of enterprise network devices
  • Advanced installation, administration, and maintenance of Windows Server operating systems.
  • Experience managing Microsoft Cloud technologies (Office 365, Azure)
  • Experience with Linux in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience supporting database systems, web technologies, security standards, and technical project management processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and interpersonal relationship skills.

Additional Preferred Experience:

  • Experience supporting hybrid datacenter environments such as cloud or software-defined datacenters.
  • Advanced knowledge of VMware VCenter, ESXi, and Horizon.
  • Advanced knowledge of converged and hyper-converged server/storage environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft technologies and relevant certification (Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect/DevOps Engineer Expert).
  • Advanced knowledge of networking and relevant certification (CCNA, CCNP).

Knowledge of:

Principles and methods of computer networking; Advanced installation, administration and maintenance of enterprise network device and Windows Server operating systems; Microsoft Cloud technologies (Office 365, Azure); Linux in an enterprise environment; database systems, web technologies, security standards, and technical project management processes

Ability to

Work independently and use good judgment as to appropriate courses of action; follow oral and written instructions; Communicate, both verbally and in writing, in a professional manner, multi-task, display organizational and interpersonal relationship skills; prepare comprehensive reports and make recommendations to management; plan and direct the work of others; and communicate effectively with people of various professional, vocational and educational backgrounds.
