By identifying community needs, cultivating parent leadership, and organizing strategic campaigns, the Education Organizer ensures that our entry into the region is grounded in deep local engagement and shared purpose. Because this role is fundamental to opening a new region, the person in this role must be organized, a clear communicator and will require prioritization of clear documentation, maintaining open lines of communication, and consistently sharing findings, progress, and community insights with the appropriate Rocketship Public Schools team members. The work of the Education Organizer is essential to ensuring that our entry into the region is grounded in deep local engagement and strategic coordination, setting the stage for long-term success. The Start Up Rocketship Education Organizer - Orange County is a full-time, exempt position on Rocketship’s External Affairs Department, reporting to the California External Affairs team within the Bay Area region. This role will collaborate deeply with the Sr. Director of External Affairs and Associate Director of Organizing to carry out the building blocks of a deep community grassroots campaign. This position requires this person to live within the bounds of Orange County. This role requires the person to have a valid driver license, a car and the ability to travel within Orange County with occasional travel to the Bay Area. Salary Starts at $70,000 Essential Functions Build the capacity of parents to understand the State and local educational landscape, key decision makers, and power of community, through the PICO Organizing Cycle. Recruit, mobilize, and retain a network of parents and community stakeholders that build advocacy and engagement to define interest and set the foundation of a new region. Complete one-on-one relational meetings every week, approximately 15 per week, with current and future parent leaders and other important stakeholders that build organizing capacity and engagement. Identify the right places in the community where leads can be cultivated (grocery stores, community centers, etc). Establish a Core Group of parent leaders in the local community. Ability to connect and secure family leads on a weekly basis i.e. outside of churches, grocery stores, broader apartment buildings. Work closely with the External Affairs team, remain informed on the local education politics landscape and develop coordinated grasstops - grassroots strategies. Foster relationships and develop champions with community-based organizations, faith leaders, elected officials, civic and community leaders that elevates organizing. Lead parent organizing campaigns and support parent-led civic and local campaigns for education equity through the school petition process and eventually the charter reauthorization process. Represent Rocketship Public Schools with authenticity, courage and and connection to the community at a variety of places including but not limited to community forums, community meetings, churches, etc. Enables a positive, high performance team culture as a leader and shows up a team player and collaborator to the CA External Affairs team and region overall, including demonstrating excellence and innovation to exceed regional goals. Committed to serving all students, Rocketship has developed a focus over the years on creating a high-quality meaningful inclusion model for our Rocketeers with unique learning or behavioral needs. Our Integrated Special Education (ISE) team serves students across all disabilities (mild, moderate, and severe) through an innovative approach to special education that includes co-teaching and deep partnership with our general education partners and other instructional staff. To best serve our Rocketeers with severe needs, we have developed a Specialized Inclusion Program (SIP) that ensures our students can receive the necessary supports and services, while s ll spending a majority of their me in a general education setting. Through these innovative approaches, Rocketship has been able to realize significant academic gains for Rocketeers with disabilities while simultaneously experiencing an increase in the number of students receiving special education services within our schools (currently ranging from 7% to 18% across our regions). The Role Based in the Bay Area and reporting to the Director of Integrated Special Education (ISE), the Program Specialist will be a key strategic leader on the Schools team and critical to driving forward the quality of Integrated Special Education within Rocketship schools. The Program Specialist will drive school teams toward ensuring that all Rocketeers are served in a compliant, effective and high-quality environment, with the goal to achieve 1.5 years of growth (based on NWEA annually) in both math and literacy. In addition, with the broader Schools team, the Program Specialist will strive to continue to establish Rocketship as the premier national model for meaningful inclusion among charter schools and traditional districts. This collaborative role requires on-campus work, as well as work from our Bay Area Regional Office. The compensation for this position starts at $98,000. Essential Functions: School Support Support ISE team visions at school sites for network initiatives and school priorities in collaboration with school leaders and directors of schools. Regularly meet with schools leaders to develop, monitor, and adjust school-level special education instructional and compliance efforts. Co-develop and support the coaching plans for ISE teachers and ISE teams with the support of the managing school leader. Provide direct and indirect coaching support to ISE teams around instructional practice and compliance initiatives. Strategize together as a team with the Director of Special Education in order to prioritize special education supports. Collaborate and provide regular consultation with service providers and key contractors as needed. Coordination with El Dorado County Selpa around educational best practices, compliance initiatives, and er three litigious cases to support school sites. Work with ISE NeST across regions to align on network priorities and implementation. Essential Functions: Instructional Support Provide ISE Managers with resources and expert guidance to support the data based decision making process to guide instructional planning. Support effective instructional planning through the selection of appropriate tiered interventions at school sites, consultation on implementation and planning, as well as the development of effective service schedules. Provide core instructional resources to school leaders and teachers to support student outcomes. Observe and provide feedback on teacher instructional execution. Support school leaders and teachers with effective co-teaching practices. Essential Functions: Supporting IEP and Compliance Processes at School Sites Oversee and support staff member skill in IEP development and meeting facilitation. Serve as special education “compliance expert” and provide consultation on compliance-related questions and concerns, create compliance systems and structures to support campuses and coaching scope and sequence. Participate in recurring compliance walk-throughs at school sites. Use compliance indicators to create department action plans to remediate. Essential Functions: Professional Development Support the development of regional and school based professional development plans to support staff. Co-create and facilitate professional development opportunities on campuses. Build and maintain Rocketship’s professional development library in collaboration with key ISE team members. Qualifications Valid Special Education teaching credential or administrative license; Master’s degree in Special Education or related field strongly preferred. Specialists serve students with significant support needs, including those with intellectual disabilities, autism, multiple disabilities, and communication or behavioral challenges. At Rocketship, we believe in the power of inclusive education. Our model ensures that students with disabilities learn alongside their peers whenever possible, while also receiving individualized instruction in smaller group or specialized settings. Education Specialists collaborate with general educators and lead paraprofessionals to provide accommodations, modifications, and targeted supports, creating classrooms where all students thrive together. Specialists manage a caseload at a single school, delivering instruction in functional academics, adaptive skills, communication supports, and behavior interventions while ensuring compliance with IDEA and state law. They are supported through weekly coaching from school leaders and additional coaching from a Special Education Program Specialist to strengthen practice and sustain growth. Behavior support is also central to the role. Since 2017, the ABF has hosted doctoral and postdoctoral fellows in the ABF/AccessLex Fellowship Program in Legal & Higher Education. The purpose of the fellowship is to assist emerging scholars who are studying issues of access, affordability, or value in legal and higher education. This fellowship program seeks to cultivate a professional network of scholars who will produce innovative, objective, empirical, and interdisciplinary research in the field. The ABF invites applications for one doctoral fellowship that will begin in September 2026. Awards The Doctoral Fellow will receive an annual stipend of $48,000. The Fellow will not be an employee of the ABF and must retain benefits, including healthcare, through their home institution. The Fellow will have access to a modest research account to reimburse expenses associated with research, travel to meet with advisors, or travel to conferences at which papers are presented. Reasonable relocation expenses may be reimbursed. Tenure The Fellowship will be awarded for one year, beginning September 1, 2026. There is a possibility that the Fellowship may be continued for a second year, beginning September 1, 2027, if the ABF receives renewed external funding to support it. Conditions Fellowships are held in residence at the ABF and are full time. Because this is a full-time program, the ABF does not allow fellows to hold concurrent fellowships, but we support fellows to apply for research grants. Fellows are expected to participate fully in the academic life of the ABF so that they may develop close collegial ties with ABF faculty and other scholars in residence. Eligibility Applications are invited from outstanding students who are candidates for LLM degrees, SJD degrees, and Ph.D. degrees across a broad range of disciplines, who will have completed all doctoral requirements except the dissertation by September 1, 2026. Provide resources to teachers and model as needed to support the implementation of Tier III interventions. Respond to and support crisis behaviors as needed. Partnership and Coordination Management Facilitate IEP meetings and collaboration with key stakeholders. Collaborate with teachers, leaders, families, and Special Education staff to create Individualized Education Plans and review individual student needs. Create, implement, and maintain organizational systems for progress monitoring, case management, IEP meeting attendance, teacher reporting, etc., in conjunction with the Special Education Projects Manager. Provide resources and support to families of students with IEPs. Collaborate with agencies and the Committee on Special Education to ensure all mandated students are assigned a paraprofessional. Manage paraprofessional onboarding, attendance, and professionalism. Present weekly program and service updates to the Director of Special Education, including information pertaining to regulations, observations, meetings, and development of individual/department goals. Provide administrative support to the Director of Special Education and other leaders as necessary. By identifying community needs, cultivating parent leadership, and organizing strategic campaigns, the Education Organizer ensures that our entry into the region is grounded in deep local engagement and shared purpose. Because this role is fundamental to opening a new region, the person in this role must be organized, a clear communicator and will require prioritization of clear documentation, maintaining open lines of communication, and consistently sharing findings, progress, and community insights with the appropriate  Rocketship Public Schools team members. The work of the Education Organizer is essential to ensuring that our entry into the region is grounded in deep local engagement and strategic coordination, setting the stage for long-term success.
The Start Up Rocketship Education Organizer - Orange County is a full-time, exempt position on Rocketship’s External Affairs Department, reporting to the California External Affairs team within the Bay Area region. This role will collaborate deeply with the Sr. Director of External Affairs and  Associate Director of Organizing to carry out the building blocks of a deep community grassroots campaign. This position requires this person to live within the bounds of Orange County.  This role requires the person to have a valid driver license, a car and the ability to travel within Orange County with occasional travel to  the Bay Area. 
Salary Starts at $70,000

Essential Functions

  • Build the capacity of parents to understand the State and local educational landscape, key decision makers, and power of community, through the PICO Organizing Cycle.
  • Recruit, mobilize, and retain a network of parents and community stakeholders that build advocacy and engagement to define interest and set the foundation of a new region.
  • Complete one-on-one relational meetings every week, approximately 15 per week, with current and future parent leaders and other important stakeholders that build organizing capacity and engagement.
  • Identify the right places in the community  where leads can be cultivated (grocery stores, community centers, etc).
  • Establish a Core Group of parent leaders in the local community. 
  • Ability to connect and secure family leads on a weekly basis  i.e. outside of churches, grocery stores, broader apartment buildings. 
  • Work closely with the External Affairs  team,  remain informed on the local education politics landscape and develop coordinated grasstops - grassroots strategies. 
  • Foster relationships and develop champions with community-based organizations, faith leaders, elected officials, civic and community leaders that elevates organizing. 
  • Lead parent organizing campaigns and support parent-led civic and local campaigns for education equity through the school petition process and eventually the charter reauthorization process. 
  • Represent Rocketship Public Schools with authenticity, courage and and connection to the community at a variety of places including but not limited to community forums, community meetings, churches, etc. 
  • Enables a positive, high performance team culture as a leader and shows up a team player and collaborator to the CA External Affairs team and region overall, including demonstrating excellence and innovation to exceed regional goals.

  • 2 + years experience in community organizing and grassroots movements
  • 2+ years experience in community outreach 
  • Experience managing and/or leading community organizing campaigns and mobilizing support
  • Experience working with organizations or schools in a diverse community Familiar with local and/or state politics, education politics & movements
  • A bachelor’s degree
