Position Overview Optical Transmission System Test Engineer to define, plan, and execute test programs in support of the development and delivery of undersea optical transmission systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing qualification test plans to validate HW/SW/FW product features based upon product requirements. Responsibilities include the management of laboratory equipment to facilitate testing and troubleshooting as well as documenting test results. The individual will report to the Manager of System Test and work as part of a team of system testers that actively collaborate with R&D, Test & Commissioning, Manufacturing, Project Management, Sales, NOC, and Field Support organizations that help design, deliver and maintain undersea optical communication systems. All aspects of optical communications will need to be covered in such work. Some travel will be required for fieldwork. Key technologies driving the test programs are DWDM transmission, coherent detection transmission, optical amplifiers, nonlinear optical transmission in fibers, optical polarization effects, and OADM systems. Responsibilities Knowledge required in optical transmission testing including OTN OTU1-4, SDH STM1-64, PDH E1-E5, Ethernet 100base-100Gbps, optical gain and loss, OSNR, BER, PMD, PDL, dispersion, nonlinear processes eye diagrams, and related measurements. Responsible for working with systems engineers, software engineers and hardware engineers to generate and execute test plans in a timely manner Plan and execute tests to verify compliance with data and telecom standards Plan and execute DWDM transmission tests Document test results Configure and maintain lab test systems Plan and execute customer demonstrations Strong laboratory, analytic, and communication skills are required, and the candidate must be able to work both as a team leader or a contributing member of a team Proficient in Linux Ability to operate and revise test automation software is preferred Qualifications M.S. in EE, Optics or Physics or B.S. and relevant experience in the field of fiber optics and/or coherent optical communication. Strong communications and presentations skills required. 12 years of relevant experience Knowledge in programming languages preferred. NOTE: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Position Overview

Optical Transmission System Test Engineer to define, plan, and execute test programs in support of the development and delivery of undersea optical transmission systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing qualification test plans to validate HW/SW/FW product features based upon product requirements. Responsibilities include the management of laboratory equipment to facilitate testing and troubleshooting as well as documenting test results. The individual will report to the Manager of System Test and work as part of a team of system testers that actively collaborate with R&D, Test & Commissioning, Manufacturing, Project Management, Sales, NOC, and Field Support organizations that help design, deliver and maintain undersea optical communication systems. All aspects of optical communications will need to be covered in such work. Some travel will be required for fieldwork. Key technologies driving the test programs are DWDM transmission, coherent detection transmission, optical amplifiers, nonlinear optical transmission in fibers, optical polarization effects, and OADM systems.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge required in optical transmission testing including OTN OTU1-4, SDH STM1-64, PDH E1-E5, Ethernet 100base-100Gbps, optical gain and loss, OSNR, BER, PMD, PDL, dispersion, nonlinear processes eye diagrams, and related measurements.
  • Responsible for working with systems engineers, software engineers and hardware engineers to generate and execute test plans in a timely manner
  • Plan and execute tests to verify compliance with data and telecom standards
  • Plan and execute DWDM transmission tests
  • Document test results
  • Configure and maintain lab test systems
  • Plan and execute customer demonstrations
  • Strong laboratory, analytic, and communication skills are required, and the candidate must be able to work both as a team leader or a contributing member of a team
  • Proficient in Linux
  • Ability to operate and revise test automation software is preferred

Qualifications

  • M.S. in EE, Optics or Physics or B.S. and relevant experience in the field of fiber optics and/or coherent optical communication.
  • Strong communications and presentations skills required.
  • 12 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge in programming languages preferred.
