Atkinson Construction is currently seeking highly talented Design Managers. Design Managers are integral members of our design-build project teams across the country. As a Design Manager, you will provide critical guidance to partnered design firms on one or more of our projects--leveraging internal resources, creativity, professional relationships, and proven processes to manage complex workflows.

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Successfully delivering a design that is on budget, on schedule, and compliant with program standards

  • Actively leading an integrated design-build team, including regular interfaces with clients, designers, trade partners and other key stakeholders

  • Leading stakeholder decision meetings, design progress meetings, and design conferences

  • Shaping design deliverables and workflow during the design process, including critical decisions regarding design packaging to support construction timing and permitting

  • Organizing and leading the constructability review process to ensure collection and resolution of all comments

  • Managing design issue resolution in real-time

  • Leading collaboration internally with technical teams, project managers, cost managers, and contracts managers

  • Participating in development of RFP and RFQ responses including providing strategic insights to pursuit strategy

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in a related field (e.g. Business, Real Estate, Architecture, Construction, Engineering, Economics, etc.)

  • 10+ years relevant work experience managing development and/or design to achieve pro-forma goals--cost, schedule, and program

  • Experience managing staff and outside stakeholders

  • Must have strong interest in Design-Build and other Alternative delivery methods

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of design and cost management principles and practice

  • Clear understanding of integrated design and construction schedules

  • Appreciation and understanding of engineering firms' business model, design principles, and process

  • Ability to lead a collaborative design process with various stakeholders

Atkinson offers a total compensation package that includes base salary, bonus potential, and a comprehensive benefit package that includes health benefits (medical and dental plans), paid time off (vacation, sick and holiday), financial benefits (retirement plan with both match and annual company contribution, life insurance, short and long term disability, and commuter benefits). Base salaries will be determined by factors such as geographic location, education, skills, experience, and market considerations. For this role the base salary range is $100,000 to $190,000.
