Job Summary: The successful candidate will perform electronics hardware design, development activities and architectural design in support of new product development and product enhancements for Power Instruments' Protection and Control products. Development of hardware/electronics aimed at new products will require assisting the corresponding Program and Product Managers with the generation of engineering specifications and corresponding test plans. This engineer will participate in the creation of project plans and work with the team to execute the plans. While developing the hardware, the candidate will assist software engineers to define hardware/software interfaces. The engineer will also provide technical support to the manufacturing, sales, and service groups. Knowledge pertaining to digital fault recorders, revenue metering, power line carrier communication devices, multiplexer devices is a big plus. Key Responsibilities: Assists engineering and product management in developing requirement specifications for new products Maintains and supports legacy hardware and designs and follows proper engineering change documentation Solves problems as a result of component obsolescence and lead time issues Creates product design requirements and specifications in a team setting Designs new product circuits to meet design specifications Creates prototype hardware (designs and builds hardware to test concepts) Creates and maintains engineering documents including schematics (ALTIUM), bills of material and engineering change notices Assists in all engineering functions leading to product release such as board layout, prototype testing, manufacturing issues, final test specifications and system test guidelines Uses lab tools, including oscilloscopes, spectrum, and protocol analyzers to diagnose problems Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience Minimum of 3 years engineering experience post-graduation Design experience with high-speed ADC / DACs, FPGAs, and microprocessors Desired Qualifications: Understanding of signal integrity, noise mitigation, and layout practices Employs model-based design tools for automated HDL code generation Experience with VHDL and FPGAs for signal processing, timing closure and/or communication products for power utilities Knowledge of PCB placement and layout requirements for high speed digital signals Understanding of PCB design principles for signal and power integrity and minimizing noise coupling Collaboration and interface definition between hardware and firmware. Ability to debug Firmware. Job Description

The Lead Design Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design and development of complex mechanical parts and assemblies. This role focuses on leading technical decision-making, ensuring design integrity, and driving innovation across projects. The Lead Design Engineer will play a key role in cross-functional collaboration, mentoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of 3D models of complex aerospace hardware
  • Prepare design concepts, sketches, layouts, technical drawings, and BOMs
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for design-related decisions across new and existing products
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders to ensure manufacturability
  • Certify technical reviews and other engineering documentation
  • Lead cross-functional activities to sustain existing designs
  • Manage complete implementation of engineering design change requests
  • Lead resolution of technical issues during manufacturing and customer interactions
  • Champion process improvement activities related to design engineering
  • Support proposals and future product development

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive experience as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, Technical Lead, or similar role
  • Expertise in parametric CAD design
  • Expertise in drawing ANSI standards and GD&T procedures
  • Expertise in manufacturing techniques and processes
  • Knowledge of material properties and selection process
  • Knowledge of FMEAs and quality assurance processes
  • Knowledge of relevant MIL-STD's
  • Familiarity with heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and structural mechanics
  • Highly motivated self-starter
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a related field
  • 8+ years of progressive engineering experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work for prolonged periods on a computer or in a lab environment
  • Ability to move equipment up to 25 pounds

Other Requirements:

  • Due to contracts with the United States Government, the candidate must be either a US Citizen or Green card holder.
