Job Description
Canyon seeks a full-time Graphic Designer to create visual materials – both static and video-based – that shape the organization's identity across diverse platforms.
Who we are
Canyon is a nonprofit arts venue opening in 2026 on the Lower East Side of NYC, dedicated to the exhibition of time-based media art and performance.
Position Overview
The Graphic Designer reports to Canyon's Director of Marketing and Communications. Working as part of the marketing team, this position will uphold Canyon's brand and create both static and moving imagery for exhibitions, programs, and print media. The Graphic Designer will handle a wide variety of tasks, from creating digital assets to designing signage, didactics, wall texts, catalogs, and incidental printed material. This position requires the ability to work within established brand guidelines while also bringing fresh, creative ideas to projects. A proven ability to allocate time and resources, triaging projects by importance and deadlines, is required. The ideal candidate will bring design expertise and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with curatorial, programming, and marketing staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Uphold and maintain Canyon's visual identity and brand standards, at the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications
- Create individualized exhibition and event brand systems that adhere to institutional guidelines
- Design and edit a variety of assets, including but not limited to, digital advertising, web graphics, social media graphics, wayfinding, exhibition signage, didactics, wall texts, and a variety of printed matter including in-gallery materials and exhibition catalogs.
- Create templated materials and digital assets for email campaigns
- Design promotional materials including posters, postcards, in-house video signage, and advertisements
- Support print production, including file preparation, vendor management, and ensuring adherence to print specifications
- Manage projects end-to-end, from initial brief to implementation, ensuring timely delivery
Required Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Graphic Design
- Minimum 5 years of professional graphic design experience
- Strong portfolio showcasing a range of print and digital projects
- Expertise in tools of the trade, ( i.e. Adobe Creative Cloud or comparable)
- Working knowledge of video editing tools (After Effects, Premiere Pro)
- Strong understanding of layout, typography, color theory, and visual communication
- Strong organizational skills for file and project management
Desired skills and qualifications
- Familiarity with video and time-based media art
- Experience working in museums, performing arts venues, or nonprofit arts organizations is preferred but not required
- Experience managing print production and coordinating vendors
- Experience with web design tools
- Experience with motion graphics/video
Salary and Benefits:
Salary is commensurate with experience. The expected range is $70,000-90,000.
This is a full-time salaried position. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; life, AD&D, long-term disability, and short-term disability insurance; a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account; a 401(k) retirement account with a matching contribution; and tuition reimbursement.
