Frontera HealthDenver, Colorado

$225,000 - $275,000 / year

Frontera is reimagining how children with autism and other behavioral health needs get the care they deserve. We bring together world-class clinicians, technologists, and autism specialists to build cutting-edge AI tools that help care teams work smarter and spend more time with the children and families who need them most. Our platform is HIPAA-compliant and designed for the real-world needs of behavioral health teams - from psychologists to ABA therapists. By combining evidence-based care with powerful technology, we’re expanding access to high-quality services for families everywhere. Our Mission Frontera exists to close the care gap: every child, no matter where they live, should be able to access effective behavioral healthcare. About the Role Frontera is looking for our first in-house attorney — a Head of Legal who’s excited to roll up their sleeves, own the full spectrum of legal and regulatory work, and help us grow responsibly. This is not a “keep the trains running” legal job. You’ll be sitting at the table with our CEO and leadership team, weighing in on major business decisions, helping us navigate healthcare regulations, and shaping how we work with partners, payers, and families. You’ll balance protecting the company with enabling innovation, and you’ll be the person we turn to on everything from contracts and compliance to data privacy and acquisitions. If you thrive in environments where the playbook isn’t written yet, and you want to build the legal function inside a fast-moving healthcare technology company, this role is for you. What You’ll Do Be the legal function. You’ll own all things legal, regulatory, and risk-related at Frontera. Counsel on big decisions. Support leadership and the board on corporate governance, M&A, partnerships, and market expansion. Build the legal infrastructure. Draft and negotiate contracts, design compliance programs, and set policies that scale with the business. Navigate healthcare law. Guide the company through HIPAA, Medicaid/Medicare, CMS rules, and state-specific regulations. Protect data and privacy. Oversee policies and practices for HIPAA, GDPR, and other data protection frameworks. Partner cross-functionally. Work side-by-side with product, operations, finance, and clinical teams to make sure we’re innovating responsibly. Manage outside counsel smartly. Bring in specialized expertise when needed, but keep ownership in-house. Stay ahead of the curve. Track legal trends in healthcare, tech, and AI, and translate them into proactive strategies. What Makes You a Great Fit J.D. and active bar membership. 8–12 years of legal experience, ideally a mix of law firm and in-house, with deep exposure to healthcare or healthtech. Strong foundation in healthcare regulations (HIPAA, CMS, Medicaid/Medicare, state rules). Experience handling a broad mix of legal issues — M&A, corporate governance, contracts, privacy/security, employment. Comfortable being the sole in-house lawyer; you like ownership and can toggle between strategic advice and hands-on execution. Clear, pragmatic communicator who can make legal issues understandable and actionable. Excited by the challenge of building in a high-growth environment. Bonus: familiarity with the use of AI in healthcare. Why Join Frontera Health: At Frontera, we’re on a mission to reimagine how families access autism and behavioral health services. As our first in-house counsel, you’ll shape not just our legal framework, but how we grow as a company. You’ll have a seat at the table, work with a sharp and motivated leadership team, and be trusted with meaningful ownership from day one. This is a chance to stretch beyond “traditional legal work”, to influence strategy, build systems that scale, and help an early-stage company make a real impact in healthcare. We have determined a salary range for this position that takes into account several factors including experience, knowledge, education, skills, and abilities. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline and the exact salary will be determined based on the individual’s qualifications and experience, with consideration given to the factors listed above. All full time employee benefits include a stake in shared success through stock options, health benefits, 401(k) plan, and responsible PTO. Expected salary range in Denver $225,000 - $275,000 USD Why Join Us At Frontera, you’ll join a team driven by impact. We’re growing quickly, backed by leading investors, and united by a shared belief that innovation and equity can change lives. If you’re excited to build the future of pediatric healthcare, we’d love to meet you.
