About The Position The Distribution Design Specialist position is primarily responsible for technical design, estimating and system improvements regarding construction on utility distribution lines and/or mains. Key responsibilities include: Process and monitor customer applications for service, providing customer with information on rates, charges, programs, service requirements, and other technical expertise as required. Obtain all required customer approvals, easements, and rights-of-way to prepare appropriate contracts, permits, releases, plats, and records. Design all jobs in accordance with Company standards. Recognize and refer opportunities for implementation of Company marketing programs by maintaining a partnership with marketing functions. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of relevant experience (e.g., utility distribution line design or construction, GIS mapping, cost estimation or control, surveying, engineering or design experience, construction or construction inspection, project management, negotiation for easements) is required; or Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of three years relevant experience is required. Five (5) years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree. In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate: Good decision-making, communication, and human relations skills. Knowledge of electric and/or gas standards, procedures and distribution systems preferred. Basic mechanical skills. Additional Information Must achieve a "recommended" test result on the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Technical Occupations (TECH) aptitude test. Although located at SEWS - Farmington Hills Office, this is a Hybrid position, which combines both in office and off-site work. Basic Purpose: Development of Wiring Harness components (protectors, grommets, holders, etc.) using 3D CAD systems (CATIA V5), releasing 2D drawings of components for quotation and for tooling kick-offs, and adjusting the designs until part/project completion. Requires working with the Wiring Harness engineers of each customer division (primarily Ford, Stellantis, and Toyota), internal Procurement, Validation, QA departments, and external suppliers. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Use 3D CAD to develop components for Wiring Harness; requires ongoing packing studies to analyze vehicle fit, while maintaining required clearance from surrounding parts. Qualifications: BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar 6+ years experience with 3D CAD systems (CATIA V5) is required and/or the development of injection-molded parts is preferred; should be able to perform other engineering functions in addition to 3D CAD design. Bilingual (English/Japanese) capability is helpful for liaison work with Japanese parent company. Must be willing to travel for trial events and supplier audits.
