UX Writer
NotionSan Francisco, California
About Us: We're on a mission to make it possible for every person, team, and company to be able to tailor their software to solve any problem and take on any challenge. Computers may be our most powerful tools, but most of us can't build or modify the software we use on them every day. At Notion, we want to change this with focus, design, and craft. We've been working on this together since 2016, and have customers like OpenAI, Toyota, Figma, Plaid, Ramp, and thousands more on this journey with us. Today, we're growing fast and excited for new teammates to join us who are the best at what they do. We're passionate about building a company as diverse and creative as the millions of people Notion reaches worldwide. Notion is an in person company, and currently requires its employees to come to the office for two Anchor Days (Mondays & Thursdays) and requests that employees spend the majority of their week in the office (including a third day). About The Role You’ll be establishing a new practice, at a special and beloved brand, which deeply values craft. This is an opportunity to do the best work of your life for a business and team that want it. Imagine yourself in the 1970s or 80s thinking through how computing should look and feel for people who had never seen one before. That's what we're trying to do at Notion — make software that feels timeless, with the craftsmanship of German cameras, playfulness of Japanese toys, and mass appeal of Coca-Cola. We have no end of fascinating challenges that can only be solved by someone with innate product & UX sense, technical aptitude, great taste, and impeccable craft. You’ll be a key member of the strong, influential, and growing Design team. You’ll collaborate with and educate nearly every designer, current and future, at Notion. You’ll report directly to our Head of Design. What You'll Achieve: Clear, consistent, and high-quality language across all Notion products. Establish the practice of UX Writing both through your own actions and contributions, as well as sharing and spreading those around the company. Directly contributing to new product designs with your own writing and guidance to designers. Auditing, proposing, and making recommendations to improve existing products. Document and maintain the norms and standards for UX writing across the company and product. A thriving UX Writing practice and team. Skills You'll Need to Bring: This isn’t your first rodeo. We are looking for at least 6+ years of experience as a UX writer. First and foremost, you are an incredibly skillful writer with a command of the English language in both consumer and technical contexts. You design with words and collaborate deeply and easily with product designers as peers. You’re an experienced manager and practitioner. You bring a love for craft to both. You’d be happy and fulfilled doing either. You are a systems thinker, who has been able to bring clarity to complex products. You have sensitivity and awareness of brand voice, neutral voices, product marketing, and product design. You enjoy collaborating with cross functional partners and often initiate the collaboration. You have strong beliefs, loosely held. You're a good listener who collaborates well with different stakeholders. You observe and internalize all inputs and feedback to help you reach a decision. You understand that momentum drives progress. You value working cross-functionally with project management, engineering, research and data — in addition to your design peers. Nice to Haves: Multi-lingual – You can read and write with professional proficiency in multiple languages (Japanese, Korean, Spanish, etc.) Builder spirit – You build out of interest and passion, and have launched projects on the web Visual design skills – You complement your language with visual communication We hire talented and passionate people from a variety of backgrounds because we want our global employee base to represent the wide diversity of our customers. If you’re excited about a role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every bullet point listed in the job description, we still encourage you to apply. If you’re a builder at heart, share our company values, and enthusiastic about making software toolmaking ubiquitous, we want to hear from you. Notion is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate in hiring or any employment decision based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), marital status, ancestry, physical or mental disability, genetic information, veteran status, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or other applicable legally protected characteristic. Notion considers qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with applicable federal, state and local law. Notion is also committed to providing reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities and disabled veterans in our job application procedures. If you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, please let your recruiter know. Notion is committed to providing highly competitive cash compensation, equity, and benefits. The compensation offered for this role will be based on multiple factors such as location, the role’s scope and complexity, and the candidate’s experience and expertise, and may vary from the range provided below. For roles based in San Francisco and New York City, the estimated base salary range for this role is $185,000 - $220,000 per year. UX Developer
Portland WebworksPortland, ME
As a UX Developer, you know that the best implementations are easy and intuitive for real people to use and that the best designs can only have impact if they actually work.   > About Us We’re a small company of overachieving consultants, taking on big challenges for our clients. We build web applications, mobile applications and application solutions for a wide range of clients, with a focus on the public sector. We use a team-based approach, with teams consisting of designers, software developers, quality assurance engineers and project managers. This allows us to provide the full lifecycle of project delivery to clients from initial concept consulting to final implementation.   > About You We’re looking for a talented individual who can combine the product vision from our design and UX teams with project technical requirements to produce high-quality deliverables.  High-quality to you means: visually accurate and appealing with a high level of attention to detail high levels of accessibility consistency both within the current project and with industry best practices highly testable and tested reusable to enable increased efficiency in the future You are adept with the tools and technologies used to build modern applications for the web. Our current favorites leverage React, NextJS, React Native, PHP (Drupal CMS) and Angular, so extensive understanding of HTML, CSS and JavaScript is critical, and background with at least one of these frameworks is desirable. Of course there are a lot of tools that help building web applications UIs at scale so you’ll have familiarity with CSS preprocessors like Sass and LESS, CSS frameworks like TailWind or BootStrap and some familiarity with the various UI kits available like Material or Ant Design. With all these cool tools involved you probably want to manage them with module bundlers like WebPack and keep the javascript in good working order with TypeScript and linters. Our projects are centered around our teams. We do more than speak the Agile lingo, we strive for a truly agile culture. A background of working with Scrum or Kanban is a plus but what’s really most important is having experience and willingness to work in a highly collaborative team setting. An important part of our team focus involves being able to coordinate work with the rest of the team. A valuable skill is being able to identify large blocks of functionality from requirements and design artifacts and break them down into suitable features and tasks. As much as you have an eye for detail, you have an eye on the future. Application development is constantly evolving so we’re looking for someone to bring some new skills and capabilities to our existing teams. Whether you have an opinion in the debate between native mobile apps and PWAs or have A/B testing experience to bring a more data driven approach to decision making we value the unique perspectives you can bring to our existing teams.   > Our Why We strive for excellence in everything we do. We value wisdom, curiosity, and a sense of fun. Our work is meaningful. From providing easier and better ways for citizens to access state government information and programs aiding in a more informed and better served populace, to keeping pets and animals safe through registration and welfare tracking, to making vaccines available to people most in need- our software often has a direct benefit to people we’ll never meet.  We are also very dedicated to the people within our organization.  We are proud to be consistently named one of Maine’s "Best Places to Work".
