Job Description

The Senior Design Engineer will lead product engineering and continuous improvement efforts, along with guiding new product designs for high performance liquid cooling systems. The Design Engineer is responsible for developing 3D models, drawing packages, and BOM releases for complex mechanical parts and assemblies utilizing Solid Works. The role requires rigorous application of design, drafting, and manufacturing techniques. The Design Engineer will also be required to implement engineering changes and process improvements. The right candidate must be able to succeed in an entrepreneurial environment and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and testing of new products.
  • Support the transfer of new products from engineering to production.
  • Develop automated test capabilities to support product design verification and long-term testing.
  • Support driving full documentation of design including BOM, drawings, and procedures.
  • Develop 3D models of complex aerospace hardware
  • Prepare design concepts, sketches, layouts, and technical drawings
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders to ensure manufacturability
  • Maintain and update BOMs
  • Generate technical reviews and other engineering documentation
  • Support cross-functional activities to maintain existing designs
  • Implement engineering design change requests
  • Support proposals and new product initiatives
  • Support disposition of technical issues which occur during manufacturing
  • Support customer reviews and inbound requests

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering; Masters preferred.
  • 8+ years hands-on design and development in mechanical/hydraulic systems or related industry.
  • Project management and strong organizational skills.
  • Self-starter must be able to work independently with minimum supervision or direction.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • 3+ years aerospace or related industry experience desired.
  • Proficient in CAD, tolerance stack-ups and drawing reviews.
  • Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes, for example: machining, molding, joining, forming, additive manufacturing.
  • Design control, change control and risk management experience (DFMEA, PFMEA).
  • Design verification and process verification/validation protocol and report writing Experience working with vendors to solve problems and remove barriers to performance.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the following areas is desired:
  • Electric-motor driven pumps (centrifugal and positive displacement).
  • AC and DC motor operation and troubleshooting.
  • Aerospace materials and processes, including plating, heat treating, brazing, welding, testing and certifying.
  • Hydraulic system layout, setup, operation, testing, instrumentation, and troubleshooting.
  • Operation of environmental test equipment and execution of testing (thermal chambers, vibration tables, etc).
  • Position is subject to ITAR restrictions
