The Director of Regional Planning, Design & Construction is responsible for leading and overseeing capital project planning, design, and construction activities across a regional portfolio of facilities. This includes strategic planning, project delivery, and infrastructure development aligned with long-term business and operational goals. The role ensures all projects meet scope, schedule, budget, regulatory, and quality standards while supporting innovation, sustainability, and functional excellence-particularly in complex environments such as laboratories, clinical spaces, and high-tech facilities. Responsibilities: Provide strategic leadership for regional capital planning, design, and construction efforts across multiple campuses or facilities. Collaborate with executive leadership, facilities teams, scientists, clinicians, and other stakeholders to assess space needs and prioritize investments. Oversee project teams and consultants from feasibility through commissioning, ensuring design excellence, cost-effectiveness, and operational alignment. Drive master planning and long-range infrastructure strategies in support of business growth, research expansion, and facility modernization. Manage the regional capital project portfolio, including budgeting, scheduling, resourcing, and risk management. Establish and enforce design and construction standards to promote consistency, functionality, and sustainability across sites. Lead RFP processes, contractor selection, contract negotiation, and vendor management. Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and industry-specific regulations and standards (e.g., GMP, BSL, ADA, environmental codes). Oversee the commissioning, turnover, and post-occupancy evaluation of facilities to ensure they are fully operational and aligned with intended use. Champion continuous improvement, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-performance facilities. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (Master's degree or MBA preferred). 15+ years of experience in capital project delivery, with 10+ years in a leadership role managing multiple large-scale projects or portfolios. Proven expertise in planning, designing, and constructing complex facilities, including labs, research centers, hospitals, or life science buildings. Deep knowledge of regulatory requirements, permitting, and best practices in lab planning, MEP systems, and sustainable design. Strong financial acumen with experience managing multimillion-dollar budgets. Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Certifications such as PMP, CCM, LEED AP, or Registered Architect/PE are strongly preferred. The estimated base salary range for the Director, Planning, Design and Construction role based in the United States of America is: $183,700 - $275,500. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. The Director of Regional Planning, Design & Construction is responsible for leading and overseeing capital project planning, design, and construction activities across a regional portfolio of facilities. This includes strategic planning, project delivery, and infrastructure development aligned with long-term business and operational goals. The role ensures all projects meet scope, schedule, budget, regulatory, and quality standards while supporting innovation, sustainability, and functional excellence-particularly in complex environments such as laboratories, clinical spaces, and high-tech facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for regional capital planning, design, and construction efforts across multiple campuses or facilities.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, facilities teams, scientists, clinicians, and other stakeholders to assess space needs and prioritize investments.
  • Oversee project teams and consultants from feasibility through commissioning, ensuring design excellence, cost-effectiveness, and operational alignment.
  • Drive master planning and long-range infrastructure strategies in support of business growth, research expansion, and facility modernization.
  • Manage the regional capital project portfolio, including budgeting, scheduling, resourcing, and risk management.
  • Establish and enforce design and construction standards to promote consistency, functionality, and sustainability across sites.
  • Lead RFP processes, contractor selection, contract negotiation, and vendor management.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and industry-specific regulations and standards (e.g., GMP, BSL, ADA, environmental codes).
  • Oversee the commissioning, turnover, and post-occupancy evaluation of facilities to ensure they are fully operational and aligned with intended use.
  • Champion continuous improvement, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-performance facilities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (Master's degree or MBA preferred).
  • 15+ years of experience in capital project delivery, with 10+ years in a leadership role managing multiple large-scale projects or portfolios.
  • Proven expertise in planning, designing, and constructing complex facilities, including labs, research centers, hospitals, or life science buildings.
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory requirements, permitting, and best practices in lab planning, MEP systems, and sustainable design.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing multimillion-dollar budgets.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Certifications such as PMP, CCM, LEED AP, or Registered Architect/PE are strongly preferred.

The estimated base salary range for the Director, Planning, Design and Construction role based in the United States of America is: $183,700 - $275,500. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
