UI Design Engineer-logo
UI Design Engineer
NeuralinkFremont, CA
About Neuralink: We are creating devices that enable a bi-directional interface with the brain. These devices allow us to restore movement to the paralyzed, restore sight to the blind, and revolutionize how humans interact with their digital world. Team Description: The BCI Applications Team is responsible for building Telepathy.app-software which enables people with paralysis to use computing devices with precision and ease, via thought alone. Our team spans a wide range of disciplines, from neuroscience and machine learning to software engineering and interface design. Job Description: We're looking for an experienced UI Design Engineer to conceptualize, prototype, and ship novel computing interfaces tailored for BCI. Our ideal candidate will possess the following qualities: Passion to explore an open-ended, multi-disciplinary, constrained space where design choices are informed by neural structure, model architecture, radio bandwidth, and more. For instance, a slight difference in an animated spring coefficient can change perceptual response time, shifting the alignment of labels and the performance of our decoders. You will actively collaborate with domain experts within and outside the team to understand these constraints and design your way around them An intuitive sense for what level of fidelity to reach for when navigating this space, be it a conversation, a rough sketch, or a testable prototype Excitement to work within and push the boundaries of an entirely new medium of interaction without the traditional sensory feedback of existing physical input devices (e.g., the kinetic friction of glass along the surface of a trackpad, or the resistive pressure of a spring during a keypress) The ability to empathize with and design for people with a sensory experience that differs from your own, and ambition to build something that feels magical, beyond the local minima of that which "works." You'll do whatever it might take to deliver that experience, be it a highly optimized vertex shader or a custom property animator, while maintaining an extremely high bar for fluidity and detail throughout A strong point-of-view, without ego-you may occasionally pursue a hunch that not everyone on the team agrees with, but are relentless about testing, deleting, and learning from ideas that don't work Job Responsibilities: Design, prototype, build, and ship novel computing interfaces for BCI Work with study participants to iterate on and further refine these interfaces Collaborate with domain experts in neuroscience, machine learning, and implant engineering to maximize the precision and fluidity of these interfaces within our constraint-space Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field; or equivalent experience A portfolio of demonstrated experience designing and shipping features end-to-end (i.e., initial conceptualization → nth prototype → initial release → nth iteration) Proficiency in Apple frameworks (i.e., SwiftUI, UIKit/AppKit, and/or Metal) or an equivalent and transferable stack (i.e., React, Three.js, WebGPU). Familiarity with Objective-C, C, and/or C++ Expected Compensation: The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the following range. Your actual base pay will be determined by your job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. We also believe in aligning our employees' success with the company's long-term growth. As such, in addition to base salary, Neuralink offers equity compensation (in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSU)) for all full-time employees. Base Salary Range: $143,000-$235,000 USD What We Offer: Full-time employees are eligible for the following benefits listed below. An opportunity to change the world and work with some of the smartest and most talented experts from different fields Growth potential; we rapidly advance team members who have an outsized impact Excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance through a PPO plan Paid holidays Commuter benefits Meals provided Equity (RSUs) *Temporary Employees & Interns excluded 401(k) plan *Interns initially excluded until they work 1,000 hours Parental leave *Temporary Employees & Interns excluded Flexible time off *Temporary Employees & Interns excluded

Senior UI/UX Designer

MUST BE BASED IN THE NYC - No Relocation

About Hatch

  • At Hatch, we’re building AI that doesn’t just assist behind the scenes; it converses with customers out in the wild. Backed by Y Combinator and top-tier investors like Bessemer and NextView, we’re scaling fast, doubling revenue year over year, and looking for A players to help us cement our place as the category leader in AI for customer engagement.

About the Role

  • We're looking for a Senior Product Designer to join Hatch’s high-impact product and engineering team. This is a senior-level role focused on designing elegant, scalable, and developer-friendly interfaces using ShadCN UI and modern design systems. You'll work closely with engineers, product managers, and AI researchers to shape intuitive experiences across our platform and AI-powered workflows. This role reports directly to the CEO.

Location

  • Hybrid in NYC (SoHo office)

What You’ll Do

Interface Design & Systems Thinking

  • Own the end-to-end design of core product experiences across web and internal tools.

  • Build scalable UI systems using ShadCN and Tailwind CSS, in collaboration with front-end engineers.

  • Design for developer-facing tools, AI workflows, and data-heavy interfaces that balance power and simplicity.

Product Collaboration

  • Work closely with product and engineering to shape feature requirements and prioritize design investments.

  • Lead the design process from early exploration through polished execution — sketches, prototypes, and handoff-ready components.

Design System Leadership

  • Own and evolve our design system, ensuring consistency across Hatch's platform.

  • Contribute to a scalable component library built on ShadCN that integrates seamlessly with our React + Tailwind stack.

User Research & Feedback

  • Drive continuous feedback loops with users through testing, interviews, and rapid iteration.

  • Turn complex workflows into intuitive interfaces informed by research and behavior data.

Cross-functional Partner

  • Advocate for design best practices across the company.

  • Partner with engineering on implementation, performance, and accessibility — not just pixels.

What We’re Looking For

  • 6+ years of experience in product design, UX/UI, or systems design in high-growth tech environments.

  • Mastery of Figma and comfort working closely with React-based component libraries like ShadCN or Chakra UI.

  • Proven track record of designing interfaces for complex applications, ideally with developer or data-facing features.

  • Experience working in cross-functional teams where design is a strategic partner.

  • A systems-thinking mindset — you care about reusability, scalability, and clarity in your work.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain design rationale to both technical and non-technical partners.

Nice to Have

  • Experience designing for AI or data-driven products.

  • Familiarity with Tailwind CSS, Next.js, or Radix UI.

  • A personal interest in developer tools, infrastructure, or technical problem-solving.

Why You Should Join

  • Design at the frontier of AI and software infrastructure — shaping the tools that power tomorrow’s workflows.

  • Join a culture that values speed, trust, and technical depth across all functions.

  • Work with a world-class team of engineers, product leaders, and ML practitioners who care deeply about quality and craft.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and equity

  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits

  • 401(k) plan

  • Flexible PTO

  • Opportunity to build at the ground floor of a high-growth, mission-driven company

  • Not offering sponsorship

Why Hatch

  • Shape the future of AI-driven customer service

  • Build alongside founders and leaders who value speed, ownership, and ambition

  • Solve hard problems that impact real businesses and customers

  • Join a team of builders who care about great engineering, fast execution, and each other
