Principal Software Engineer (Remote) Overview: As a Principal Software Engineer, you will help shape the vision and architecture of Weedmaps’s next generation backend infrastructure, making it easy for developers to build products and features. You will influence the technical direction as we build the world’s best cannabis enterprise marketplace and a robust portfolio of enterprise products to help enable our clients and the cannabis industry as a whole to flourish. The explosive growth of the cannabis industry as well as the almost completely differentiated legal requirements in each legal jurisdiction require that our software solve for increasingly complex problems. Our products range from wholesale marketplace to delivery fleet management and reporting. Additionally, as we expand our platform to provide end-to-end SaaS solutions for the cannabis supply chain, it will be increasingly necessary to unify the framework and architecture on which the platform operates so that each product works seamlessly with one another. You'll be responsible for ensuring that we are building a scalable, reliable, secure and highly performant technology stack using best practices for delivering our products to market. You will ensure our architecture is flexible to allow for our growth into new and existing business lines. This is a strategic technical role that requires strong partnership with other functions across the company. You'll partner with other senior engineers and leaders across the company to translate technology capabilities into strategic business decisions. You'll drive accountability and metrics ownership to translate strategy into results. And you'll align and inspire your organization by effectively communicating the strategy and driving the team to build a world class marketplace in the cannabis space. The impact you'll make: Provide technical direction for the overarching Weedmap’s technology stack leveraging Service Oriented Architecture patterns using server side Javascript such as Node.js or similar runtime environment Develop architectures that are secure, scalable, robust, modular, API-centric, and follow the principle of least astonishment Build long term technical strategies that align with Weedmap’s business plan and influence the overall technical direction Support the application lifecycle (concept, design, test, release and support). Follow established development, documentation, testing and deployment processes. Partner closely with engineers and leaders across different disciplines and teams to gather information, listen to multiple viewpoints and come up with solutions to drive the technical direction forward. Act as an ambassador for the organization at technology conferences and events Communicate technical roadblocks and solutions with executive leadership Mentor, educate and coach engineers across the technology organization Act as a team player for building a culture of flawless execution What you've accomplished: 12-15+ years of software development experience with 3+ years of SaaS architectural experience in high-growth engineering organizations Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent degree / work experience, including code camps or self-taught programmers Experience in writing quality production code in server side Javascript, such as Node.js Experience with frameworks that provide structure for Node.js such as Express.js, NestJS, and Adonis.js Experience with exceptional architecture and clean coding practices Effective and persuasive communication skills at all levels of management and engineers, both written and verbal Able to collaborate on long-term architectural vision, and articulate and evangelize that vision in and out of the company Experience working in an e-commerce space building applications and technology to engage consumers and foster growth Exposure to integrations and design, cloud based technologies, and latest mobile architectures Experience working collaboratively at a high level with other teams within an organization Breadth of knowledge and passion spanning front-end and back-end technologies. The software engineer will implement and support technologies and solutions that will integrate with internal and external APIs as well as extend developed applications and services. Skills in designing backend, high performance services will set apart the successful candidate for this position. The engineer will have experience using one of more programming languages developing web applications, RESTful and SOAP based APIs. Knowledge of the full software development life cycle is required and experience with dev/ops concepts such as source control, continuous integration and containerization is desirable as is experience in the financial services sector. Additionally, hands on experience with relational databases will also be needed to be successful in this role. The software engineer will work closely with other team members to deliver enterprise-wide solutions. The software engineer will communicate effectively with other team members and management to deliver results in a timely fashion. Primary Duties Technical, hands-on candidate whose primary responsibility will be designing, developing, enhancing, testing, and deploying solutions to integrate business services and APIs Lead API lifecycle development Responsible for software development and code quality Establish development standards and dev/ops process and procedures Develop and maintain required documentation for all stages of the software development lifecycle. Principal Software Engineer (Remote)
Overview:
As a Principal Software Engineer, you will help shape the vision and architecture of Weedmaps’s next generation backend infrastructure, making it easy for developers to build products and features. You will influence the technical direction as we build the world’s best cannabis enterprise marketplace and a robust portfolio of enterprise products to help enable our clients and the cannabis industry as a whole to flourish. The explosive growth of the cannabis industry as well as the almost completely differentiated legal requirements in each legal jurisdiction require that our software solve for increasingly complex problems.
Our products range from wholesale marketplace to delivery fleet management and reporting. Additionally, as we expand our platform to provide end-to-end SaaS solutions for the cannabis supply chain, it will be increasingly necessary to unify the framework and architecture on which the platform operates so that each product works seamlessly with one another. You'll be responsible for ensuring that we are building a scalable, reliable, secure and highly performant technology stack using best practices for delivering our products to market. You will ensure our architecture is flexible to allow for our growth into new and existing business lines.
This is a strategic technical role that requires strong partnership with other functions across the company. You'll partner with other senior engineers and leaders across the company to translate technology capabilities into strategic business decisions. You'll drive accountability and metrics ownership to translate strategy into results. And you'll align and inspire your organization by effectively communicating the strategy and driving the team to build a world class marketplace in the cannabis space.
The impact you'll make:
- Provide technical direction for the overarching Weedmap’s technology stack leveraging Service Oriented Architecture patterns using server side Javascript such as Node.js or similar runtime environment
- Develop architectures that are secure, scalable, robust, modular, API-centric, and follow the principle of least astonishment
- Build long term technical strategies that align with Weedmap’s business plan and influence the overall technical direction
- Support the application lifecycle (concept, design, test, release and support). Follow established development, documentation, testing and deployment processes.
- Partner closely with engineers and leaders across different disciplines and teams to gather information, listen to multiple viewpoints and come up with solutions to drive the technical direction forward.
- Act as an ambassador for the organization at technology conferences and events
- Communicate technical roadblocks and solutions with executive leadership
- Mentor, educate and coach engineers across the technology organization
- Act as a team player for building a culture of flawless execution
What you've accomplished:
- 12-15+ years of software development experience with 3+ years of SaaS architectural experience in high-growth engineering organizations
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent degree / work experience, including code camps or self-taught programmers
- Experience in writing quality production code in server side Javascript, such as Node.js
- Experience with frameworks that provide structure for Node.js such as Express.js, NestJS, and Adonis.js
- Experience with exceptional architecture and clean coding practices
- Effective and persuasive communication skills at all levels of management and engineers, both written and verbal
- Able to collaborate on long-term architectural vision, and articulate and evangelize that vision in and out of the company
- Experience working in an e-commerce space building applications and technology to engage consumers and foster growth
- Exposure to integrations and design, cloud based technologies, and latest mobile architectures
- Experience working collaboratively at a high level with other teams within an organization
- Breadth of knowledge and passion spanning front-end and back-end technologies.
The base pay range for this position is $215,197.00 - $240,000.00 per year
