We are seeking a versatile and hands-on engineer to join our Opportunity Discovery and Technology Adoption (ODTA) team as a Computer Vision Application Engineer. ODTA is dedicated to translating groundbreaking robotics research into real-world solutions that address customer needs and drive impact on the factory floor. As a Computer Vision Application Engineer, you'll play a key role in bridging research and deployment. You will work directly with customers and internal team members to integrate advanced computer vision systems into real-world manufacturing environments. This includes on-site deployments, system calibration, and performance tuning, as well as building reusable tools and infrastructure to streamline future rollouts. This role combines fieldwork, software engineering, and system integration-ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of applied research, technical execution, and customer success. This role is based at our headquarters in Los Altos, CA., and is expected to travel approximately twice a quarter to manufacturing sites across the U.S. Responsibilities Evaluate and integrate computer vision algorithms into customer-specific robotics applications. Develop tools and infrastructure for camera calibration, data pipelines, and system monitoring. Define and install optimal camera and lighting configurations for early deployments. Tune deployed systems for image quality (RGB and depth), accuracy, and performance. Manage contractors to design and install hardware components (mounts, lighting, industrial PCs, etc.). Contribute to internal ML model management tooling and deployment workflows. Lead end-to-end software deployment process, including data handling and CI/CD practices. Collect, analyze, and report performance metrics to ensure systems meet customer requirements. Produce clear, detailed documentation to support future scaling and customer enablement. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in software engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, or a related field. 5- 7+ years of industry experience in deploying computer vision or ML-based systems. Proficiency in Python and C++; strong software engineering fundamentals. Experience with camera calibration (intrinsics and extrinsics). Hands-on experience with industrial CV libraries (e.g., OpenCV, MVTec, etc.). Familiarity with Git-based CI/CD workflows and collaborative software development. Experience with ML platforms (e.g., AWS, SageMaker, or similar). Proven success adapting new technology to customer environments. Bonus Qualifications Strong background in 3D computer vision and machine learning. Experience deploying vision systems in manufacturing or robotics settings. Excellent communication and multi-functional collaboration skills. Creative, analytical problem solver with a practical, solution-oriented mentality. The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $176,000 and $264,000/year for California-based roles; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and integrate computer vision algorithms into customer-specific robotics applications.
  • Develop tools and infrastructure for camera calibration, data pipelines, and system monitoring.
  • Define and install optimal camera and lighting configurations for early deployments.
  • Tune deployed systems for image quality (RGB and depth), accuracy, and performance.
