Ambrook logo
AmbrookNew York, New York
Ambrook’s mission is to help family-run American businesses become more profitable and resilient. From record-breaking droughts to rising input costs and unpredictable markets, operators across American agriculture and industry are navigating increasing pressure — much of it driven by a changing climate and economy. Many of the best long-term investments — like water-efficient irrigation or improved grazing rotations — support both the land and the bottom line. But even when the payoff is clear, these changes often require upfront capital and financial clarity that’s hard to come by. With fragmented records and outdated tools, business owners can’t easily see what’s working — let alone prove viability to a lender, partner, or the next generation. Ambrook is rebuilding the financial infrastructure that independent operators rely on. We replace paperwork and legacy systems with modern tools for accounting, banking, invoicing and spending — built for people who spend more time in the field than in the office. Our platform gives producers the financial clarity they need to make confident investments in their land, their operation, and their future. Our customers are the backbone of the real economy — stewards of land, labor, and legacy. When they can invest in ways that make their businesses stronger and more durable, they become a force for generational resilience across America. We’re starting with farmers and ranchers across the country — helping them keep the family business in the family and make decisions that stand the test of time. We’re a Series A startup backed by top investors (Thrive Capital, Dylan Field, Homebrew, Designer Fund, BoxGroup, and more) and are looking for early team members who are looking to untangle the knotted intersection between American industry, climate, and the economy. Learn more about our mission and what it’s like to work with us. The Opportunity Ambrook is building a world-class team. As one of our first engineers focused on our mobile app, you’ll help drive our technical decisions and influence our product direction for years to come, with the goal of making agriculture more sustainable and profitable. For many farms, poor broadband connectivity and little time in the office (if there is an office) means that the smartphone is the fastest computer available. Being able to run your business from the tractor, while at the farmer’s market, or in the field, is incredibly empowering. As a mobile engineer, your work will enable our engineers to be highly productive by emphasizing sharing business logic between platforms and crafting a high quality design system . These investments are being used today by our engineers to launch features to four platforms at a time (desktop web, mobile web, Android, iOS). Learn how to use Ambrook’s tech stack to deliver a standalone feature to our customers. Analyze Ambrook’s use of best practices and share a technical note with our team about where we have opportunities to improve. Familiarize yourself with Ambrook’s product and our research notes and recording repository from user onboarding calls and customer discovery interviews. Embed yourself deeply in understanding the state of farm finance, building a strong intuition about customer needs and audience segmentation. Contribute to Engineering team meetings and review code from peers. Participate in meetings with producers. Within 3 months you'll... Collaborate with our Product team to influence prioritization of feature ideas and requests with insights from our audience. Build and improve on a Native Module in Kotlin/Swift to enable the product team to access new mobile specific functionality. By doing so, you’ll gain an understanding of potential areas of improvement for our cross platform infrastructure that you’ll then improve on. Collaborate to design and execute improvements to our engineering stack, building new processes and onboarding our team to them. About the Team The Strategic Deployment team makes frontier models more capable, reliable, and aligned to transform high-impact domains. On one hand, this involves deploying models in real-world, high-stakes settings to drive AI-driven transformation and elicit insights-training data, evaluation methods, and techniques-to shape our frontier model development. On the other hand, we leverage these learnings to build the science and engineering of impactful frontier model deployment. Put differently, we want to understand: if AGI is viewed as AI being able to majorly transform our economy, how close are we to AGI? What's still missing? How do we bridge these gaps? About the Role As a Software Engineer in the Strategic Deployment team, you will help OpenAI identify real-world domains that are ripe for transformation through frontier AI capabilities. You'll act as a hands-on builder, partnering with subject matter experts to understand the key aspects of a given domain, pinpointing the most critical tasks in that domain, and developing technical proofs-of-concept that build conviction driving OpenAI's strategic engagements. We're looking for people who combine a strong engineering background with an entrepreneurial mindset-engineers who can thrive in ambiguity, quickly iterate toward the signal, and adapt their approach as new insights emerge. You should be deeply curious about where AI can (and can't yet) have impact, and excited to push the boundaries of what's possible. This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees. In this role, you will: Drive prototyping sprints into specific domains in collaboration with domain experts. Translate real-world tasks into tractable engineering problems and develop proof-of-concept solutions. Deliver working demos, run in-the-wild evaluations, and distill insights into actionable guidance for OpenAI's research and deployment teams. You might thrive in this role if you: Care about real-world impact of AI. Are excited to drive how frontier models are developed and deployed. Have hands-on experience in engineering systems. Are excited by startup-style ambiguity and enjoy working across disciplines to drive a project from zero to one. Enjoy working in open-ended problem spaces and high-feedback environments. Are a curious, adaptable generalist who enjoys learning fast, asking deep questions, and solving open-ended problems. About OpenAI OpenAI is an AI research and deployment company dedicated to ensuring that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity. We push the boundaries of the capabilities of AI systems and seek to safely deploy them to the world through our products.
