Location: In Person — 3 days a week in San Francisco, CA Team: Engineering Experience: 2–3 years at an AI-first company or building AI-powered products About TrueMeter At TrueMeter , we’re tackling one of the hardest and most overlooked challenges in energy: making sense of complex, utility data and actually optimizing costs down . Our mission is to engineer intelligence at scale . We apply AI-first thinking to problems where traditional engineering can’t keep up: parsing messy documents, orchestrating agent workflows, and optimizing energy spend across dynamic, multi-variable rate structures. We’re building a founding team of problem-first engineers who care deeply about deploying AI applications into production —fast, reliably, and at scale. Why Join Us? As our Founding Software Engineer, AI Applications , you will: Be one of the earliest engineers, setting both the technical direction and cultural foundation of TrueMeter. Own end-to-end AI applications : from ingesting unstructured data to deploying production-ready agent workflows. Work on hard, technical problems that have resisted automation—optimizing rates, parsing unstandardized tariffs, integrating across APIs, and scaling systems that deliver direct business value. Move fast and apply AI-first thinking for scaling : leveraging LLMs, orchestration frameworks, and modern cloud infrastructure to design solutions that scale where traditional methods fail. If you want to be on the frontlines of applying AI to complex, high-impact engineering challenges , this is the role. What You’ll Do Build AI Applications: Design and deploy intelligent systems that parse tariffs, optimize utility spend, and automate workflows. Productionize Agent Workflows: Integrate cutting-edge AI models into robust pipelines that run reliably in real-world environments. Full-Stack Development: Build APIs, backend services, and frontend integrations using Python and TypeScript as needed. Leverage Cloud at Scale: Deploy and maintain systems on GCP (or AWS) , ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance. Iterate Rapidly: Prototype, test, and launch features quickly while maintaining production quality. Shape Foundations: Establish engineering standards, architecture principles, and AI-first practices for the company. What We’re Looking For 2–3 years of experience as a software engineer at an AI-first company or building AI-powered applications. Proficiency in Python and TypeScript , with experience shipping production code. Hands-on experience deploying AI/LLM workflows into production (LangChain, LlamaIndex, vector DBs, orchestration frameworks, etc.). Familiarity with GCP (or AWS) cloud infrastructure and deploying production-grade systems. Experience building and maintaining APIs, data pipelines, or full-stack applications. Startup DNA: thrives in ambiguity, biased toward action, problem-first mindset, and high ownership. Nice-to-Haves Experience with parsing unstructured data, optimization algorithms, or time-series forecasting. Background in energy, utilities, or IoT data (not required, but valuable context). Prior experience in a founding or early-stage engineering role . Our Culture We value problem-first engineering : we start with the complexity of the problem, and we solve it with the right tools, applying AI-first thinking where it creates leverage. We move with urgency, ship quickly, and reflect honestly to improve. We believe that AI is not an add-on—it’s the core of how we scale solutions to problems that were previously unsolvable. What You’ll Get A founding engineer role with outsized ownership and influence on product and company trajectory. Competitive salary and meaningful equity. Hybrid work culture in San Francisco —collaborative, fast-paced, and ambitious. The opportunity to work on real-world hard problems that push the boundaries of AI-first engineering.

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together. So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale. Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same. The Role Square Banking has revolutionized the way businesses and consumers obtain the funding needed to achieve their goals. Unlike traditional business financing products, Square Banking extends offers to pre-qualified sellers with no application process, funds are deposited as soon as the next business day, and repayment happens as a fixed percentage of daily card sales. Since the product launched in 2014, Square Banking has offeredbillions of dollars in loans to hundreds of thousands of sellers. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Credit Underwriting Team, you will help grow and expand access to credit for our Square sellers. You will be responsible for designing, building and owning sophisticated underwriting services that leverage data and machine learning technologies to originate and approve a variety of lending products. Our customers are internal teams iterating on existing loan products as well as experimenting with brand new loan structures. Our backend is the powerhouse behind all of loan origination, and our frontend enables product teams to customize, test, and manage the credit policies behind these loans. You will work primarily on our backend systems. You Will Solve ambiguous, high-risk, and cross-team challenges in underwriting systems by working directly in the code and carrying solutions from implementation to resolution across the lending stack Guide the long-term technical strategy for underwriting services while contributing hands-on to critical lending platform capabilities Partner with engineering, product, risk, and data science teams in shaping and developing novel lending capabilities. Raise the technical bar through design reviews and architectural guidance, creating your own designs for underwriting systems and providing feedback on designs across lending teams, setting high standards for reliability, maintainability, and extensibility Mentor engineers to grow their technical depth and leadership capabilities, fostering expertise in underwriting domain knowledge and platform development Further develop a best-in-class underwriting platform: ensuring robust APIs, clear documentation, and responsive support that enables credit policy teams to move quickly and safely You Have 12+ years of backend engineering experience with proven organizational impact Expertise in Go, Ruby, or Kotlin with openness to learn others Proven track record of architecting and scaling high-reliability financial systems with high operational excellence, fault tolerance, and data integrity Strong mentorship, cross-team collaboration, and technical communication skills, with experience building trust across teams and functions Ability to decompose complex, ambiguous problems into maintainable solutions (optional) Domain experience in lending, credit underwriting, or consumer credit systems Technologies We Use and Teach AWS Go Ruby on Rails Kafka Terraform ES6 & TypeScript React

Job Description

Who We Are

Maybern is transforming the way private fund managers effectively manage their funds through cutting edge technology. Maybern is founded by top engineering experts with deep knowledge of the fund management space.

Private funds manage $15T in capital and are growing at 20% YoY, but with increasing regulatory scrutiny and investor demands for transparency, the need for world class software to help private fund CFOs is crucial.

This is where Maybern comes in.

We are equipping fund managers with intuitive, flexible fund management software, enabling private investment managers to focus on what they do best: driving returns for their investors. We are backed by leading venture capital firms and a large number of strategic investors.

Maybern is an NYC based company with a strong in-office culture to drive collaboration, and we are looking to make strong additions to our team.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help drive the evolution of our platform.

The Platform Team provides core components for the rest of the Maybern engineering team to build on top of, including foundational data modeling, integration testing, and release tooling. We aim to create simple, reliable interfaces for complex systems to enable our engineers to move quickly yet safely, so our product teams can focus on delivering value for our customers.

The right candidate’s north star is developer productivity: you design, build, and rigorously test solutions so that product teams can stay focused on customer features while the complexities of scalability, performance, and fault‑tolerance are handled transparently by the platform.

What You'll Do

To thrive in this role, you must be an entrepreneurial engineer who enjoys solving complex problems

  • Build: Architect, scope, and build core parts of our system from the ground up

  • Lead: Identify and drive new initiatives while mentoring junior engineers

  • Partner: Work closely with other engineers to design elegant, flexible solutions that solve their problems while being forward-thinking about future use cases

Who You Are

  • Developer Experience Mindset. On our Platform team, you will shape the internal tools and services that let product engineers move fast without tripping over infrastructure details. You understand how to turn engineering needs into opinionated, self‑service platforms that are reliable, observable, and easy to extend.

  • Collaborative. You collaborate well across teams, can distill and incorporate feedback, and communicate clearly and concisely

  • Leader. You're eager to shape our technical foundation and will level up team practices and processes. You can take broad guidance and determine the best path forward. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are comfortable wearing multiple hats

  • Strategic. You see both the forest and the trees: think big picture, execute fine details. You can plan for the long term while navigating short-term tradeoffs

This Could Be a Great Fit If You...

  • Are comfortable working with server-side languages and frameworks (we’re tech agnostic in interviews, but use Python and Django in practice)

  • Have experience with monitoring cloud applications and responding to incidents

  • Have a solid grasp of relational databases and transactions.

  • Are knowledgeable of platform/cloud technologies and distributed systems. AWS experience is a bonus.

  • Are passionate about great developer tooling

  • Are comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with shifting priorities

  • Have work experience at a startup, preferably early stage

Benefits

  • We offer a competitive salary + equity package, comprehensive benefits, and a flexible family-friendly work environment. Some of our perks include:

    • Comprehensive healthcare benefits

      • Maybern covers 100% of medical premiums, with low-cost dental and vision plans

      • Health savings accounts, and more

    • Family-Friendly policies

      • Paid parental leave

    • Flexible schedule

      • Flexible PTO / sick leave

      • WFH as needed to fit your needs

    • 401k
