Job Description

Location: Metro Washington DC | Hybrid, work remote and on-site at client location(s)

About CEG Solutions

CEG Solutions is a leading national Energy Service Company (ESCO) that specializes in delivering transformative sustainability and infrastructure projects. Originating as a general contractor, we leverage deep construction expertise and rigorous data analysis to provide turnkey, design-build energy and water efficiency solutions at no upfront cost to our clients.

With over $1 billion in projects awarded or in development, we partner with federal, state, and local governments, as well as healthcare and education sectors, to modernize complex facilities. Following our recent 2025 merger with Iconergy, we continue to expand our mission to improve the built environment through innovation, technical excellence, and guaranteed results.

Our job is to ensure that our client's vision becomes reality. We take the time to understand that vision, then serve as a key technical partner throughout design and construction. As part of a larger project team, we build strong, positive relationships that keep the focus where it belongs — on the owner's goals.

We also invest in each other. By learning, sharing knowledge, and supporting one another — especially during crunch time — we make our team stronger and our work more rewarding.

In this role, your contributions will be critical to project success. Your ability to learn quickly, ask the right questions, and deliver on commitments will directly impact both our clients and our team.

This is a unique opportunity to join a company at the forefront of energy efficiency and commissioning services — where your work will directly impact how buildings operate and perform. Long-term growth in this role would ideally help establish our commissioning business throughout the mid-Atlantic region.

A day in the life of the successful candidate:

During an office day, you might work on these types of tasks:

  • Assist with new construction and retrofit construction commissioning projects, including functional testing and creating deliverables.
  • Develop plans for on-site testing.
  • Conduct analysis to support on-site work.
  • Review drawings and specifications across multiple projects to ensure that the client's intent is met during the design phase.
  • Review product data submittals across multiple projects to ensure that the equipment ordered aligns with the specified equipment.
  • Write reports that summarize the key findings of our work for external audiences.
  • Interface with project managers, subcontractors, and members of the design and construction teams for clarification and feedback.
  • Contribute to business development, including speaking events, proposal development and project interviews.

During a day in the field, you might:

  • Attend a commissioning coordination meeting with the client or client's representative, design team, and keycontractors.
  • Spend a day with a contractor to test and explore the systems they installed, proactively asking thoughtful questions to identify and resolve issues and documenting outstanding issues.
  • Witness and report on the startup of a new system on the client's behalf to troubleshoot as needed.
  • Spend a day on the roof or climbing ladders to access and assess equipment in difficult-to-reach spaces.
  • Adjust your communication style to effectively interface with a wide range of construction team members, sometimes about sensitive issues (e.g., architects, designers, facilities managers, contractors, manufacturers' representatives).
  • Travel overnight to client locations (historically less than 20% of the time).

You'll work in a place that encourages you to:

  • Work independently.
  • Take pride in the work that you do.
  • Share your enthusiasm for our work with the people around you.
  • Create processes to complete tasks where no process previously existed.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to expand your knowledge and the reputation of the firm.
  • Work with multiple project managers to prioritize your tasks.
  • Practice and refine your project engineering skills daily.

Special Site Considerations - Working in facilities requires a certain sensibility. For example, you may need to:

  • Be cognizant of your surroundings and on guard at all times.
  • Adhere to strict protocols established by the customer regarding interactions with occupants and management.
  • Follow CEG's and our client's safety protocols.
  • Be ready to adapt to changing situations and the unique considerations that exist in different parts of a facility.
  • Treat everyone that you encounter with dignity while completing your professional responsibilities efficiently.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associates, bachelor's or master's degree, or equivalent military experience, in a technical field such as engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in commissioning new construction or retrofit projects, or building automation system engineering. Adjacent fields, such as design engineers, MEP coordinators, or controls technicians/programmers with the required degree(s) and project engineering experience are also potential fits.
  • Possess an ANSI Accredited commissioning certification through ASHRAE, BCA or ACG, or have the desire to earn one.
  • Demonstrated experience with analysis of trended field data and/or statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication (written and oral) and organizational skills.
  • Moderate to advanced skills in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.
  • Additional skill sets that would be a plus include Bluebeam, Visio, and programming skills in VBA, or other relevant analysis languages and tools.
  • Demonstrated success in troubleshooting technical issues with HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Curiosity to learn and explore security, life safety, communication and building envelope systems.
  • Pass NCIC background checks, or other background checks, as required by our clients.
  • Pass an initial drug test and subsequent random drug tests required by our clients.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and provide your own mode of transportation.

This position will require you to frequently stand, walk, and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, you will be regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. You will also be required to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

We value teammates who are committed to the CEG team and adaptable to potential shifts in the specifics of their role. Our positions are similar to those at other growing firms: they are functions of the marketplace and, therefore, dynamic. We've described the position as it is forecasted from today through the next twelve months. We are constantly evolving our services and also addressing client requests that may change the description in a number of ways over time.

Apply today to join our growing team!
