Knowledge of proper inspection and maintenance practices, using manufacturers’ information, literature, trade guides, and manuals. Knowledge of the principles and theories of air conditioning and refrigeration, including refrigeration cycling and heat transfer laws. Knowledge of control elements, including: High and low side pressure, Temperatures of cooling units, Temperatures of liquid and suction lines, Running time of various mechanisms Skill in applying test procedures and equipment common to the HVAC/refrigeration trade. Ability to locate leaks and other issues via visual and/or audible equipment examination. Knowledge and skill to use electronic meters and thermometers to determine/correct temperatures and air changes and to balance heat loads. Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and applying: complex blueprints, wiring diagrams, rough sketches, manufacturers’ instructions and literature, work instructions and equipment specifications.
