Position Overview: The Apprentice will assist with the installation of gas heating equipment, hot water heaters, fireplace logs, central air conditioning and heat pump units. Assist with installation of ductwork, fuel lines and electrical upgrades as necessary. Assist with minor adjustment and repair of residential heating and air conditioning equipment. POSITION SUMMARY The HVAC/R Technician (Combo Tech) is responsible for following the preventive maintenance program, repair services and parts for commercial cooking, refrigeration, beverage and other kitchen equipment. This role will perform minor carpentry and maintenance of architectural structures and grounds for restaurant locations as directed by the Combo Tech Lead and Regional Facilities Manager. POSITION SUMMARY The heating, ventilation, air condition/refrigeration (HVAC/R) Mechanic operates under the direction of the HVAC/R Supervisor to inspect, maintain, repair and install all types of equipment pertaining to heating, ventilation, air conditions and refrigeration systems here at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) at the Hyde Park campus. Responsibilities: Investigates and troubleshoots problems and performs repairs on mechanical equipment including large complex air movement and HVAC equipment. Performs preventive maintenance on various mechanical and electrical equipment. Takes ownership of cross shift issues and resolution. Assemble, install, and test complicated mechanical equipment and apparatus, and assemblies. Performs inspections, repairs, and replacements of pumps and piping systems including valves, components, and fittings. Analyze basic heating, cooling, and humidification cycle to include: identifying components, knowledge of the operation of each component, diagnosing problems in other devices to perform routine maintenance and repairs. Diagnose malfunctioning systems, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem Inspect mechanical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes and standards. Identify and advise others on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous or cause system damage. Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of equipment and to ensure conformance to job specifications, including building and safety codes Use a variety of tools and equipment including measuring devices, and testing equipment. The ability to read, interpret, and understand basic engineering drawings and specifications including work orders and equipment manuals is required.
