Join us as we move forward together, growing, learning, and making a real impact for some of the world’s biggest brands. The future of data resilience is here - go fearlessly forward with us.

About the role

Coveware by Veeam is seeking a Senior Cyber Security Software Engineer to build digital forensic and incident response tools. Coveware is a rapidly growing, fully distributed company, headquartered in Westport, CT. We are a ransomware incident response firm that empowers victims of cyber extortion through software solutions.

This is a hands-on software engineering position focused on developing Coveware's Recon utility and related forensic collection tools using modern C++23. You'll architect and implement high-performance, cross-platform native applications for Windows, Linux, ESXi, and macOS. The role requires expert-level C++ development skills and the ability to work in the cybersecurity domain. You'll be building the tools that power incident response, not primarily responding to incidents yourself.

The ideal candidate is a senior software engineer who writes a lot of C++. Knowledge of cybersecurity concepts is important for understanding the problem space, but your primary contribution will be engineering C++ solutions for forensic data collection and analysis.

This role is remote within the US, but we are prioritizing candidates based in Eastern time for team alignment.

What You'll Do

  • Design and implement features for Coveware's Recon utility using C++23 and modern C++ best practices
  • Build and maintain cross-platform build pipelines using GitHub Actions for Windows, Linux, ESXi, and macOS
  • Build high-performance digital forensic collectors with focus on code quality, performance, and maintainability
  • Own the CI/CD infrastructure and development toolchain
  • Develop native MacOS applications and ensure cross-platform compatibility
  • Integrate with cloud services (AWS S3, AWS API Gateway)
  • Collaborate with security analysts to translate incident response needs into software solutions
  • Research and prototype new technical approaches to forensic data collection
  • Contribute to technical documentation and research publications
  • Occasionally provide technical support on complex implementation challenges

What you'll bring

  • Expert-level C++23 programming with deep knowledge of modern C++ features, STL, and best practices
  • Strong experience with cross-platform native development (Windows, Linux, macOS)
  • Expert GitHub Actions knowledge for building and maintaining complex CI/CD pipelines
  • Proficiency with Rust and Python for tooling and scripting
  • Experience with build systems, package management, and native development toolchains
  • Strong systems programming background (file systems, memory management, OS internals)
  • AWS services experience (S3, API Gateway)
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills for complex technical challenges
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity concepts: malware, exploits, vulnerabilities, and threat landscapes
  • Familiarity with digital forensics and incident response workflows (or strong willingness to learn)
  • Ability to understand and analyze malware behavior from an engineering perspective
  • Team player able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary remote environment
  • Self-directed learner who can quickly adapt to new technologies and requirements
  • Good technical communication skills for both code and documentation

What you'll get

  • Unlimited paid time off, plus 3 global VeeaMe Days for self-care
  • Paid parental leave: 8 weeks for all parents, 16 weeks for birthing parents
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage from day one
  • Mental health support, therapy sessions, and digital wellness tools via SupportLinc EAP
  • 401(k) retirement plan with matching contributions up to annual limits
  • Fertility, adoption, and surrogacy support through Maven, plus paid volunteer time
  • AirVet: 24/7 virtual veterinary care at no cost
  • Legal services, identity protection, and supplemental health insurance options
  • Tax-advantaged spending accounts for healthcare, dependent care, and commuting
  • Professional training and education, including courses and workshops, internal meetups, and unlimited access to our online learning platforms (LinkedIn Learning, Athena, O’Reilly) and mentoring through our MentorLab program

Please Note: If the applicant is permanently located outside of the United States Veeam reserves the right to decline the application for the position. Remote work is only possible for employees located in the United States.
