Description Position Summary The Security Officer implements and enforces center rules, policies, and security practices within scope of authority of Safety & Security Department. Monitor and support security of center grounds, buildings, program participants and staff through physical patrol and electronic means. The shift for this position is Wednesday-Sunday 7:30am-4:00pm with Monday's and Tuesdays off. Essential Functions Function as a resource officer to students and promote friendly interactions to maintain a positive culture. Proactively monitor high risk areas and situations and practice de-escalation techniques to prevent violence and negative behavior. Follow strict documentation requirements for security and safety functions for logs, reports, and investigations in compliance with Department of Labor, Corporate and Center guidelines, and policies. Secure buildings and property by checking doors, windows, lights, appliances, equipment, locks, and emergency equipment. Document findings and corrective actions taken. Respond to fire alarms and safety alerts taking necessary steps to maintain safety of students and staff and security of buildings and grounds. Assist staff in monitoring student movements, controlling disturbances and maintain order. Document activity and security incidents reporting violations and corrective actions taken to Manager. Provide transportation services as requested. May utilize GSA vehicles to transport students to off-site learning and employment opportunities, appointments, and as needed for retrievals and other center-related needs. Model positive behavior and a high level of conflict resolution skills at all times. Participate in department meetings and all mandated PRH and corporate training. Utilize information systems and handle student data in strict adherence to Job Corps and Strategix policies to protect student's personally identifiable information (PII) and reduce network security threats. Requirements Qualifications and Experience Minimum High school diploma or equivalent and one year experience working in security field. Knowledge of standard security and safety protocols. The incumbent may be required to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL). Preferred State Security Officer certification. Job Posting Title: Campus Security Specialist Job Description: Promotes and provides proactive security services and a safe and secure environment at schools and other facilities. Provides a positive role model for students and develops and promotes positive relationships with students. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community members and school clientele. Minimum Experience: One (1) to three (3) years job related experience preferred, which may be gained by one (1) to three (3) years experience in law enforcement, adolescent supervision programs, or similar activities; or two (2) years education in law enforcement, social services, behavioral sciences, counseling, or similar areas. Assess danger and call for assistance if necessary; intervene to halt or prevent fights, disturbances or other incidents and diffuse threatening or confrontational situations between students or others to ensure order is restored and students are unharmed. -- Assist law enforcement and District Security with enforcement of school District policies on controlled substances and mitigation strategies to promote a drug-free school environment. -- Enforce Student Conduct and Discipline Code and other school rules and regulations; administer warnings to students or refer them to building administrators for disciplinary action as necessary to maintain a peaceful environment. -- Monitor and supervise students' activities at assigned locations in the building and/or on the grounds and enforce parking regulations, issue verbal warnings, written warnings or parking summonses as appropriate to promote a safer learning environment. -- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written direction and write accurate and clear reports Must be able to monitor environmental and electronic security systems. Requirements: Basic: Must undergo a physical examination within six (6) months prior to their assignment. Must successfully pass a preemployment drug screen examination within six (6) months prior to their assignment and present the results for inspection. The screen must have the ability to detect the use of: marijuana, cocaine, heroin, amphetamines, opiates, and benzodiazepines. Must complete training in Security and Emergency Procedures, Crowd Control, Irate/Hostile individual and Public Relations Must undergo training in matters of state policy regarding drug awareness, sexual harassment, workplace violence, discrimination, and prohibition of the use of equipment. Successfully complete training for operating electronic computer and/or alarm and communication systems. Must undergo formal training, if necessary. Education & Experience: Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent Licensing, Permits & Certifications: Must have a valid California Driver's License or a California Identification card issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles and carry it in their possession while on duty.
