Product Security Software Engineer

Zoox is looking for a Platform Security Engineer to join our Product Security team. Product Security is responsible for the security of the Robotaxi and its services platform. Our mission is to develop secure architecture and defense of our large-scale, high-assurance platforms. This role is critical in our ability to secure modern, distributed infrastructure, ensure resilience against evolving threats, and embed security into every layer of our platform. You will be responsible for designing and implementing foundational security frameworks and controls that will serve as the foundation for Zoox software services. Your expertise will help us secure workloads in a highly scalable and distributed cloud environment while ensuring highest security and privacy assurance of personal information. Key Responsibilities Include: Architect and Implement security frameworks to protect distributed services Strengthen identity and access controls (least privilege, authentication, authorization) Adopt and enforce cryptography best practices with the use of HSM, key management, PKI, identity services etc.. Conduct threat modeling, security assessments, and penetration testing to identify and remediate vulnerabilities Harden cloud, container, and orchestration environments (AWS, Kubernetes) Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate security best practices in CI/CD pipelines The ideal candidate has deep expertise in security engineering, cloud security, cryptography, network security, and secure system design, with a proactive approach to securing complex platforms. Qualifications 2-4+ years of experience in a security engineering role, reaching fluency in a compiled, statically typed language and in an interpreted, dynamically typed language while developing production-grade services of substantial scope. Practical application of secure design patterns. Formal (threat model, attack graph, TARA) and informal ways of evaluating application risks. Expertise with high availability and large system design patterns, including microservice architectures, distributed systems, principles and practices of working with data stores, build and release management, testing and deployment. Ability to influence others, empathy, asynchronous communication skills, and relationship building skills that enable you to achieve complex goals on short deadlines with teams that do not report to you. Bonus Qualifications Experience with AWS or other public clouds, DevOps/SRE practices, infrastructure-as-code tooling, and container-based service operation. Contributions to the cybersecurity community of practice, such as developing tools, contributing original research, participating in conferences and events, etc. Compensation There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $162,000 to $260,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. Job Description
Zoox is looking for a Platform Security Engineer to join our Product Security team. Product Security is responsible for the security of the Robotaxi and its services platform. Our mission is to develop secure architecture and defense of our large-scale, high-assurance platforms. This role is critical in our ability to secure modern, distributed infrastructure, ensure resilience against evolving threats, and embed security into every layer of our platform.
You will be responsible for designing and implementing foundational security frameworks and controls that will serve as the foundation for Zoox software services. Your expertise will help us secure workloads in a highly scalable and distributed cloud environment while ensuring highest security and privacy assurance of personal information.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Architect and Implement security frameworks to protect distributed services
- Strengthen identity and access controls (least privilege, authentication, authorization)
- Adopt and enforce cryptography best practices with the use of HSM, key management, PKI, identity services etc..
- Conduct threat modeling, security assessments, and penetration testing to identify and remediate vulnerabilities
- Harden cloud, container, and orchestration environments (AWS, Kubernetes)
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate security best practices in CI/CD pipelines
The ideal candidate has deep expertise in security engineering, cloud security, cryptography, network security, and secure system design, with a proactive approach to securing complex platforms.
Qualifications
- 2-4+ years of experience in a security engineering role, reaching fluency in a compiled, statically typed language and in an interpreted, dynamically typed language while developing production-grade services of substantial scope.
- Practical application of secure design patterns. Formal (threat model, attack graph, TARA) and informal ways of evaluating application risks.
- Expertise with high availability and large system design patterns, including microservice architectures, distributed systems, principles and practices of working with data stores, build and release management, testing and deployment.
- Ability to influence others, empathy, asynchronous communication skills, and relationship building skills that enable you to achieve complex goals on short deadlines with teams that do not report to you.
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with AWS or other public clouds, DevOps/SRE practices, infrastructure-as-code tooling, and container-based service operation.
- Contributions to the cybersecurity community of practice, such as developing tools, contributing original research, participating in conferences and events, etc.
Compensation
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $162,000 to $260,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
