As our Senior/Principal Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and refining complex automation systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including propulsion, fluid systems, structures, test, and embedded software. This role spans the full product lifecycle: from warehousing concept and design, ROI evaluation, up through testing, and integration. Responsibilities: Lead Mechanical Design Leverage advanced design principles to develop robust systems in support of aerospace and related automation applications. Oversee the full product lifecycle of components and assemblies, meeting rigorous engineering standards and compliance requirements. System Innovation & Integration Conduct feasibility studies and conceptual design activities, applying lessons learned to large-scale warehouse automation and robotic systems. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (including electrical, software, controls, and manufacturing) to ensure seamless integration of complex assemblies. Prototyping & Testing Develop prototypes for proof-of-concept designs, integrating mechanical assemblies with sensors, actuators, and control systems. Validate designs through qualification or small-scale pilots. Design and execute comprehensive test protocols to validate performance, reliability, and safety requirements. Technical Leadership & Mentorship Provide technical leadership within cross-functional environments, guiding junior engineers and sharing best practices gained from previous fast-paced environments. Lead design reviews and ensure thorough documentation of all technical decisions. Continuous Improvement Champion automation, lean product development, and cost-optimization strategies. Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing, equipment installation, qualification, and launch activities. Basic Qualifications: Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field (Master's or Ph.D. preferred). 8+ years of relevant engineering experience for Senior level roles; 12+ years for Principal level roles. Technical Expertise Demonstrated experience with product design in complex mechanical or mechatronic systems. Proficiency in 2D CAD (e.g., AutoCAD) Familiarity with high-speed fulfillment solutions: crossbelt and shoe sorters, ASRS equipment, AGVs, conveyance, and general warehouse design. Communication & Leadership Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including propulsion, fluid systems, structures, test, and embedded software. This role spans the full product lifecycle: from warehousing concept and design, ROI evaluation, up through testing, and integration.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Mechanical Design

  • Leverage advanced design principles to develop robust systems in support of aerospace and related automation applications.

  • Oversee the full product lifecycle of components and assemblies, meeting rigorous engineering standards and compliance requirements.

  • System Innovation & Integration

  • Conduct feasibility studies and conceptual design activities, applying lessons learned to large-scale warehouse automation and robotic systems.

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (including electrical, software, controls, and manufacturing) to ensure seamless integration of complex assemblies.

  • Prototyping & Testing

  • Develop prototypes for proof-of-concept designs, integrating mechanical assemblies with sensors, actuators, and control systems.

  • Validate designs through qualification or small-scale pilots.

  • Design and execute comprehensive test protocols to validate performance, reliability, and safety requirements.

  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide technical leadership within cross-functional environments, guiding junior engineers and sharing best practices gained from previous fast-paced environments.

  • Lead design reviews and ensure thorough documentation of all technical decisions.

  • Continuous Improvement

  • Champion automation, lean product development, and cost-optimization strategies.

  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing, equipment installation, qualification, and launch activities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field (Master's or Ph.D. preferred).

  • 8+ years of relevant engineering experience for Senior level roles; 12+ years for Principal level roles.

  • Technical Expertise

  • Demonstrated experience with product design in complex mechanical or mechatronic systems.

  • Proficiency in 2D CAD (e.g., AutoCAD)

  • Familiarity with high-speed fulfillment solutions: crossbelt and shoe sorters, ASRS equipment, AGVs, conveyance, and general warehouse design.

  • Communication & Leadership

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Track record of leading multi-disciplinary project teams, mentoring peers, and delivering results within tight timelines.
