Summary: United Integrated Services (USA) is looking for an AAS Design Engineer to join our team! The Air Abatement System Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing mechanical systems. This role involves creating detailed schematics, equipment schedule, equipment layout, duct and pipe layout, etc. ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support project execution. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, proficiency in duct and pipe design software, Space ventilation volume, Duct air volume calculation, and the ability to oversee projects from concept to completion. Apply today to learn more! This is a full-time onsite position located in North Phoenix, AZ (85027). Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Design and develop air abatement systems, Duct, dosing pipe, scrubber equipment piping, supply/drainpipe, and control systems based on project requirements. Prepare and review mechanical schematics, duct and pipe layouts, equipment layout, flow diagrams, piping and instrument diagrams, and bill of materials (BOM). Conduct flow rate calculations, pressure drop analysis, and other mechanical engineering calculations to ensure system reliability and efficiency. Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulations such as IMC, IBC and SMACNA. Coordinate with architects, electrical engineers, structural engineers, and other disciplines to ensure seamless project integration. Perform site visits, inspections, and evaluations to support design accuracy and troubleshoot installation issues. Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, or other relevant design software to create and modify drawings. Assist in selecting and specifying equipment, including air handlers, fans, pumps, and other system components. Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings to ensure compliance with design specifications. Participate in design reviews, value engineering exercises, and risk assessments. Support procurement and construction teams with technical expertise, documentation, and troubleshooting. Ensure quality control measures are met throughout the project lifecycle. Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering. Other responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. 3+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering (experience in construction, design, power distribution, or industrial applications is a plus). Experience working with commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects is desirable. Skills and Competencies: Strong knowledge of air abatement and mechanical systems, chilled water piping, warm water piping, HVAC equipment piping, supply/exhaust air duct, and control systems. Familiarity with IMC and IBC and other relevant mechanical codes and standards. Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit or similar programs. Experience with mechanical system flow rate calculations, pressure drop analysis, and facilities requirements studies. Strong understanding of project lifecycle, including design, procurement, construction, and commissioning. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and electrical schematics. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical systems. Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with clients, team members, and contractors. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a professional attitude. Ability to work in a construction site environment (trailer office). Language Proficiency: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Ability to communicate in Mandarin, preferred. Ability to communicate in Spanish, preferred. Nice to have: Experience with HVAC systems, HVAC equipment servicing, HVAC installation management, or construction background. Experience with PLCs, SCADA, and automation systems. Familiarity with BIM workflows and coordination Additional Requirements: Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license. May be required to travel to other sites within Arizona to perform certain work functions. May require international travel. Physical Demands & Work Environment This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs for transporting documents, equipment, and other materials as needed. The role involves extended periods standing, walking and/or of sitting while working at a computer. Frequent movement between the construction trailer and various areas of the construction site is necessary. The position is based at the construction job site (trailer office). Even though the exposure of hazardous work conditions would be minimal, the employee may be required to visit the work area of the jobsite and thus be exposed to some typical work hazards that may be present on a construction site, such as dust, moving machineries, weather, caustic chemicals, noise etc. UIS would provide the required safety protection to ensure the safety of UIS employees and comply with all OSHA standards. This role will help maximize the value derived from FF&E procurement and design in renovation and Ops+ projects. Support the strategic sourcing and procurement and design management as the project team subject matter expert in FF&E, standardization of critical design durability guidelines, vendor relations, and overall design aesthetic for project success. In addition, this role will support the Head of Sustainability & Resilience on sustainable sourcing and supply chain initiatives under the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) program. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: ​ Provide support in the overall management and growth of the Host Hotels & Resorts Strategic Partnership Program for suppliers, design consultants, and procurement firms. Manage, develop, and establish strategic relationships with key suppliers, designers, and procurement firms. Collaborate on the evaluation and selection of new procurement firms, consultants, and suppliers to continue the overall growth and needs of Development, Design & Construction in the highest ethical business behavior. Recommend to the VP of Design & Procurement and CapEx leaders, the appropriate interior design and procurement partner firms for each project. Communicate with project teams, procurement agents, manufacturers, and designers in conjunction with industry FF&E changes or updates to the Host Design & Procurement Guidelines. Responsible for the up-to-date and CHAMPION document of the Strategic Supplier Listing. Review and evaluate FF&E Renovation Project Specifications as requested and/or own managed projects to ensure that they meet the Host Design Guidelines: Identify issues and concerns that do not meet Host standards. Communicate those issues and concerns back to the Project Team and assist in resolutions. Manage a reporting mechanism on the Interior Design Firms that are not consistently specifying FF&E items that meet Host Design Guidelines. Manage and coordinate Host Design Standards with the CapEx Analysts to provide regular updates of Host Design & Procurement documents (Guidelines, Brand Standards and Strategic Supplier Listing) as result of surveys, design issues, new industry standards and other areas to ensure documents are current in CHAMPION Guide the Department CapEx Analysts in FF&E Specification reviews and maintenance. Manage existing design and procurement relationships with the various Brand Partners of Host Hotels & Resorts. Travel for project meetings and property site visits as required. The Air Abatement System Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing mechanical systems. This role involves creating detailed schematics, equipment schedule, equipment layout, duct and pipe layout, etc. ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support project execution. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, proficiency in duct and pipe design software, Space ventilation volume, Duct air volume calculation, and the ability to oversee projects from concept to completion.

This is a full-time onsite position located in North Phoenix, AZ (85027).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Design and develop air abatement systems, Duct, dosing pipe, scrubber equipment piping, supply/drainpipe, and control systems based on project requirements.
  • Prepare and review mechanical schematics, duct and pipe layouts, equipment layout, flow diagrams, piping and instrument diagrams, and bill of materials (BOM).
  • Conduct flow rate calculations, pressure drop analysis, and other mechanical engineering calculations to ensure system reliability and efficiency.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulations such as IMC, IBC and SMACNA.
  • Coordinate with architects, electrical engineers, structural engineers, and other disciplines to ensure seamless project integration.
  • Perform site visits, inspections, and evaluations to support design accuracy and troubleshoot installation issues.
  • Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, or other relevant design software to create and modify drawings.
  • Assist in selecting and specifying equipment, including air handlers, fans, pumps, and other system components.
  • Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Participate in design reviews, value engineering exercises, and risk assessments.
  • Support procurement and construction teams with technical expertise, documentation, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure quality control measures are met throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.         

Education/Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
    • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering (experience in construction, design, power distribution, or industrial applications is a plus).
    • Experience working with commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects is desirable.

Skills and Competencies:

    • Strong knowledge of air abatement and mechanical systems, chilled water piping, warm water piping, HVAC equipment piping, supply/exhaust air duct, and control systems.
    • Familiarity with IMC and IBC and other relevant mechanical codes and standards.
    • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit or similar programs.
    • Experience with mechanical system flow rate calculations, pressure drop analysis, and facilities requirements studies.
    • Strong understanding of project lifecycle, including design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and electrical schematics.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical systems.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with clients, team members, and contractors.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
    • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a professional attitude.
    • Ability to work in a construction site environment (trailer office).

Language Proficiency:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
    • Ability to communicate in Mandarin, preferred.
    • Ability to communicate in Spanish, preferred.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with HVAC systems, HVAC equipment servicing, HVAC installation management, or construction background.
  • Experience with PLCs, SCADA, and automation systems.
  • Familiarity with BIM workflows and coordination

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license. May be required to travel to other sites within Arizona to perform certain work functions. May require international travel. 
  • May require occasional work outside standard business hours to meet project deadlines.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs for transporting documents, equipment, and other materials as needed. The role involves extended periods standing, walking and/or of sitting while working at a computer. Frequent movement between the construction trailer and various areas of the construction site is necessary.

The position is based at the construction job site (trailer office).  Even though the exposure of hazardous work conditions would be minimal, the employee may be required to visit the work area of the jobsite and thus be exposed to some typical work hazards that may be present on a construction site, such as dust, moving machineries, weather, caustic chemicals, noise etc. UIS would provide the required safety protection to ensure the safety of UIS employees and comply with all OSHA standards.
