Neuralink logo
NeuralinkFremont, CA
About Neuralink: We are creating devices that enable a bi-directional interface with the brain. These devices allow us to restore movement to the paralyzed, restore sight to the blind, and revolutionize how humans interact with their digital world. Team Description: The BCI Applications Team is responsible for building Telepathy.app-software which enables people with paralysis to use computing devices with precision and ease, via thought alone. Our team spans a wide range of disciplines, from neuroscience and machine learning to software engineering and interface design. Job Description: We're looking for an experienced UI Design Engineer to conceptualize, prototype, and ship novel computing interfaces tailored for BCI. Our ideal candidate will possess the following qualities: Passion to explore an open-ended, multi-disciplinary, constrained space where design choices are informed by neural structure, model architecture, radio bandwidth, and more. For instance, a slight difference in an animated spring coefficient can change perceptual response time, shifting the alignment of labels and the performance of our decoders. You will actively collaborate with domain experts within and outside the team to understand these constraints and design your way around them An intuitive sense for what level of fidelity to reach for when navigating this space, be it a conversation, a rough sketch, or a testable prototype Excitement to work within and push the boundaries of an entirely new medium of interaction without the traditional sensory feedback of existing physical input devices (e.g., the kinetic friction of glass along the surface of a trackpad, or the resistive pressure of a spring during a keypress) The ability to empathize with and design for people with a sensory experience that differs from your own, and ambition to build something that feels magical, beyond the local minima of that which "works." You'll do whatever it might take to deliver that experience, be it a highly optimized vertex shader or a custom property animator, while maintaining an extremely high bar for fluidity and detail throughout A strong point-of-view, without ego-you may occasionally pursue a hunch that not everyone on the team agrees with, but are relentless about testing, deleting, and learning from ideas that don't work Job Responsibilities: Design, prototype, build, and ship novel computing interfaces for BCI Work with study participants to iterate on and further refine these interfaces Collaborate with domain experts in neuroscience, machine learning, and implant engineering to maximize the precision and fluidity of these interfaces within our constraint-space Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field; or equivalent experience A portfolio of demonstrated experience designing and shipping features end-to-end (i.e., initial conceptualization → nth prototype → initial release → nth iteration) Proficiency in Apple frameworks (i.e., SwiftUI, UIKit/AppKit, and/or Metal) or an equivalent and transferable stack (i.e., React, Three.js, WebGPU). Familiarity with Objective-C, C, and/or C++ Expected Compensation: The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the following range. Your actual base pay will be determined by your job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. We also believe in aligning our employees' success with the company's long-term growth. As such, in addition to base salary, Neuralink offers equity compensation (in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSU)) for all full-time employees. Base Salary Range: $135,000-$281,000 USD What We Offer: Full-time employees are eligible for the following benefits listed below. An opportunity to change the world and work with some of the smartest and most talented experts from different fields Growth potential; we rapidly advance team members who have an outsized impact Excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance through a PPO plan Paid holidays Commuter benefits Meals provided Equity (RSUs) *Temporary Employees & Interns excluded 401(k) plan *Interns initially excluded until they work 1,000 hours Parental leave *Temporary Employees & Interns excluded Flexible time off *Temporary Employees & Interns excluded

Atomic Machines logo
Atomic MachinesEmeryville, CA
Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era in micromanufacturing with its Matter Compiler (MC) technology. The MC enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by offering manufacturing processes and a materials library that is inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. The MC promises to unlock MEMS manufacturing both for the many device classes that never could be made by semiconductor methods but also to open up entirely new classes. Furthermore, the MC is fully digital in the way 3D printing is digital, but where 3D printing produces parts of a single material using a single process, the MC is a multi-process, multi-material technology: bits and raw materials go in and complete, functional micromachines come out. The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device - one that was only made possible by the existence of the Matter Compiler - that we will be unveiling to the world soon. Our offices are in Emeryville and Santa Clara, California. About the Role We are seeking a seasoned Senior Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Engineer to join our growing team in our Emeryville office. This individual will lead and contribute to significant systems and strategic technologies from the beginning of the product life cycle for our novel Real-Time Micro-Manufacturing platform, the Matter Compiler. The Mechanical Engineering team is at the forefront of designing and developing state-of-the-art hardware solutions through the entire lifecycle of product development - from conceptualization, harnessing process physics - to deployment, ensuring our innovative designs meet practical, real-world needs. Our engineers, guided by seasoned leadership, are deeply involved in all aspects of product development across a multitude of technical domains, through cross-functional collaboration, continuous refinement of our engineering processes, and upholding high standards in mechanical design to usher forward the next major step change in manufacturing. What you'll Do: Own and lead architecture, development, and qualification of complex systems within our autonomous micro-manufacturing platform, incorporating process technologies such as physical vapor deposition, vacuum material handling, laser micromachining, electrochemical, fluid handling and dispense, bonding and joining, conveyance systems, and more. Influence manufacturing methods at scale Work with cross-functional teams of highly experienced mechanical, software, electrical, process and materials engineers; managing projects, risks, and shaping our technology development path. Be an exemplary pillar for engineering excellence with concise documentation, analytical models, and strong engineering decision-making to provide a detailed understanding of machine performance. Drive your work through rapid learning loops, leveraging our in-house lab, fab, and machine shop. Work with experts from other teams to ensure systems are performant while being efficient, operable, and reliable; challenging assumptions and building strong professional relationships. What You'll Need: A first-principles mindset - you question assumptions, reframe problems from the ground up, and approach challenges with a foundational understanding rather than relying solely on precedent. 5+ years of experience designing complex multi-physics precision mechanical systems. Experience in DFM and manufacturing systems Demonstrated deep expertise in one or more disciplines and breadth or the ability to learn across the following engineering disciplines: precision engineering, machine design, mechanisms, thermal, vacuum, fluids, optics, electromagnetics, sensors, materials. Proficiency in systems engineering and system architecture definition. Multiple successful product life cycles that you've stewarded from conception to successful market launch. Experience leading cross functional technical teams toward successful product development in multiple technical domains. Exceptional command of engineering fundamentals, design principles, and detailed engineering definition. Infectious creativity and inventiveness, the ability to take and manage technical risks, and lead by influencing. Resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability, with no task too big or too small. A willingness to learn; a willingness to teach. Minimum B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent. Bonus Points For: Industry experience in product development processes such as Agile, ICSM, etc $170,000 - $200,000 a year The compensation for this position includes equity and benefits.
