This role will focus on mechanical design from piece parts to system integration, with both an attention to detail and a broad understanding of the product. Experience specifically with turbomachinery is not a requirement, but is a significant strength. Responsibilities: Find new design solutions by integrating your own innovations with requirements and opportunities found by other subject-area experts (such as turbomachinery, fluid systems, electrical systems, and thermodynamic modeling). Create detailed CAD models and draft drawings per ASME Y14.5 to document and communicate your designs; collaborate with other engineers on checking and reviewing models & drawings. You've created CAD models of parts that were actually produced and assembled into a machine. Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support the Engineering Operations group in Denver, CO. This position will work closely with field crews, Facility Ratings Engineers, designers, and the Data Governance team to ensure data is complete, accurate, and compliant. The role also includes providing document control support and quality assurance of substation and transmission design packages.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Interpret markups and comments to update drawings and spreadsheets accurately

  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the fall (up to 20 hours a week).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with drafting/design and data analytics.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is essential (Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other drafting/design software.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn and take feedback constructively.
