Description:You will be a Tool Design Engineer Stf. for the LM Palmdale site, supporting the design and development of special tools and fixtures for assembly and fabrication operations. About The Role The Staff Thermal Design Engineer is responsible for assisting in the development of key thermal components & systems from concept to engineering release of new products. The focus is on running server system thermal tests using data acquisition equipment, thermal stress test software, and external power control equipment. The thermal engineer troubleshoots thermal and/or airflow issues in new and existing product lines using empirical data and commercial CFD software. The Sr. Staff Thermal engineer plays an active role in developing thermal components using 3D CAD software and advanced engineering analysis. A candidate for this role will be responsible for owning thermal design and optimization for new hardware and evaluating thermal technology. The involved system design across compute and storage devices, evaluating and advancing current and emerging thermal technologies, from liquid cooling to thermal critical components, and optimizing the hardware for high performing, efficient data center operation. The engineer will be responsible for solving heat transfer problems occurring in complex subcomponents or full hardware systems, using comprehensive thermal design fundamentals and analytical tools. Job Description

Description:You will be a Tool Design Engineer Stf. for the LM Palmdale site, supporting the design and development of special tools and fixtures for assembly and fabrication operations. Our team is responsible for creating innovative solutions to manufacture aircraft components and final assemblies, while ensuring compliance with government regulations and company requirements.

As the Tool Design Engineer, you will be responsible for collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, fabricate, and implement special tools and fixtures, utilizing CAD software such as CATIA V5. You will create detailed tool design CAD models and drawings, and provide shop floor support to resolve technical and manufacturing issues.

You will also be expected to provide support to tooling vendors during the fabrication phase of tool designs, see their use into the production system and ensure configuration control is maintained.

Other tasks will include root cause analysis of tooling issues, ability to implement corrective actions, act as a technical checker for tool designs developed by team members/vendors and work to drive continuous improvement into our line of business.

A combination of education and experience may be considered equivalent to the degree requirement. Case by case evaluation will occur.

A level 4 employee typically has 10 - 15 years of professional experience.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) experience.
  • Must be able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and diagrams.
  • Must be able to interpret metrology data.
  • Experience with CATIA V5 Software.
  • Tool Design and Fabrication Support experience.
  • Aero Industry Experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain secret clearance per business requirements

Desired Skills:

  • STEM degree with 9+ years of experience
  • Previous hands on mechanical experience, jig building experience, and computer aided design experience on any 3D drawing and analysis software package.
  • Previous tool design experience for composite part families and processes, from layup fixtures to trim fixtures, bond fixtures, and assembly fixtures.
  • Exposure to root cause analysis and continuous improvement concepts.
  • Exposure to Vendor support and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Exposure to disposition tooling request from vendors on tooling issues; ability to research and validate request.
  • Experience with CATIA V4 Software.
  • Microsoft Office Suite Experience: Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $99,700 - $175,835. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays. (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year. This position is incentive plan eligible.
