About the Company: Stable Kernel is a technology services firm and custom software developer building scalable software solutions for cutting-edge, innovative enterprises to move their business forward. We are headquartered in Atlanta, GA. We’re a privately held, Great Place to Work Certified Company™ with a multi-award-winning culture and an impressive 10-plus-year trajectory of sustainable growth. At Stable Kernel, we support our employees in ways that help them do some of the best work of their lives.   About the Role: We're looking for a creative, thoughtful and pragmatic Director of Product Design to shape the future of the software experiences we build for our clients. You will inspire a growing team and drive design-led business growth across our portfolio of enterprise software engagements. As the leader of our design function, you will create user-centric experiences, uncover key insights, guide strategic design initiatives, and influence cross-functional teams. You'll report to the Chief Strategy Officer and collaborate closely with product, engineering, client experience, business development and executive leadership. This is a rare opportunity to position design as a competitive differentiator while directly contributing to client success and the long-term growth of Stable Kernel.   Core Responsibilities: Drive design strategy for our clients (Fortune 500s and leading private companies) across foodservice, retail, and B2B.  Build and lead a high-performing design team rooted in craft, innovation, and business impact. Set the standard for exceptional design by demonstrating your skill and helping others rise to their best.  Elevate our design practice as a key competitive differentiator and revenue driver for our company. Represent the design practice in new business presentations and pitches. Be a creative source of inspiration when we are in the early stages of client courtship.  Strategic Design Leadership: Shape and drive end-to-end design strategy for complex software products, including mobile apps, web apps, etc., from discovery through delivery.  Champion a user-centered approach by integrating research, data, and user feedback throughout the engagement.  Stay at the forefront of design and technology trends, identifying opportunities to evolve our offerings, including the responsible use of AI in design. Team Leadership & Development: Manage and mentor a team of UX/UI designers across the United States.  Conduct performance reviews, professional development plans, and revise competency matrices to demonstrate clear progression paths and promotions for designers.  Recommend new talent needed for the team and establish a freelance network for specialized work (e.g., prototyping, decks, presentations).  Build deep partnerships with engineering and market research teams to create a cohesive, end-to-end product experience, ensuring all disciplines are engaged from strategy through execution, not just at the handoff point. Practice Operations: Establish scalable design systems and best practices across mobile, web, and enterprise platforms.  Lead design reviews, demos, and ensure the work leads to meaningful business results that we can showcase to future clients through case studies.  Contribute as a senior IC when necessary during project spikes or situations where your expertise is needed. Client Engagement & Business Growth: Build trust with enterprise decision-makers through design leadership.  Participate in planning sessions, quarterly business reviews, and new opportunity development with both existing and new clients.  Collaborate with sales to scope new design work and identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling.  Stay focused on the strategic and creative narratives that sell work to new clients.  As needed, hire freelancers or contractors to create artifacts for new businesses, such as PowerPoint decks, demos, or other visual demonstrations.   Intimate, Working Familiarity With: Mobile, web, and enterprise platforms (must showcase how you have led work that starts at a blank canvas and ends up as a shipped project).  Figma, design systems, and component libraries.  Apple HIG, Material Design, and enterprise UX best practices.  Rapid prototyping and user testing tools.  The agile process for software product development.  Selling design work to clients. General Requirements: 10+ years of experience designing digital products that earn the respect of clients. A decade or more of leadership experience - you’ve built teams rooted in trust, integrity, clarity and kindness. A portfolio of work you can share with our current UX/UI design team early in the interview process.  Experience in consumer tech, retail, foodservice or B2B services-based businesses. Work experience building out a design practice that serves large clients - either at your firm, a smaller firm or a larger agency/consultancy.   Preference for working in a services-based business vs. a product company.  Education/background in human-centered design, UX/UI, or product design.  Expertise in accessible design principles and ADA compliance, including practical application of WCAG guidelines and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure inclusive digital experiences. Experience scaling design teams and systems in high-growth settings.  An understanding of business KPIs. Bonus if you have N/NG certifications. Extra-extra bonus points if you have ever listened to The Two Bobs Podcast, or participated in a training session led by Blair Enns or David C Baker (or read their books or newsletters).   A Bit More Info: Minimum Base Compensation:  $185,000 This is a full-time position. Job Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for our Combustion team to own the 3D design of high-temperature, high-pressure hardware from concept through fabrication.  You’ll collaborate closely with combustion engineers, analysts, and test engineers to develop practical, test-ready systems. Your work will leverage metal additive manufacturing, precision machining, and algorithmic design techniques to push the boundaries of modern fabrication.

Arbor’s team of world-class engineers and scientists are developing a scalable, low-cost approach to Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) based on modern rocket engine technology. BECCS is a carbon dioxide removal (CDR) approach that uses biomass to produce energy and remove CO₂ from the atmosphere and store it permanently underground, while ensuring food security, rural livelihoods, and biodiversity are not affected. Our modular technology leverages the power density of supercritical CO2 to enable compact gasification, oxy-combustion, and high-pressure turbo-expansion to convert abundant waste biomass into clean electricity, water, and high-purity CO2, capturing and sequestering all emissions from the process. Our team brings together a passion for science, technology, and global stewardship to make low-cost, high-quality carbon removal and baseload power a reality.
