This position will support the planning and design of multimodal roadway facilities throughout North Carolina. Projects will include feasibility studies and facility design, including roadways, sidepaths/multi-use paths, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, cycle tracks, and other facilities for public and private clients. Professional engineers will mentor the ideal candidate and will be encouraged to pursue licensure as appropriate. Essential Functions + Responsibilities Support the design and produce plans, contract documents, specifications and costs estimates suitable for publicly bid projects. Support the design and produce plans for offsite roadway improvements to public roads associated with private development projects. Participate in field reviews of projects to support alignment development and recommendations. Work directly with Project Managers to advance projects from feasibility analysis, to design, permitting, and successful bidding. Support design, technical analyses, and engineering calculations and prepare plans, submittal packages and permitting applications. Support public outreach and community engagement efforts. Coordinate with other McAdams service lines (geomatics, water resources, etc.) to develop project plans. Actively participate in a professional organization and with McAdams Young Professional Group. Qualifications A bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering or transportation or a related field EI preferred with expected growth towards obtaining PE licensure 0-3 years of experience in civil engineering for public sector clients and/or projects AutoCad/Civil 3D and/or Microstation/Geopak/OpenRoads Proficiency is a plus (corridor modeling a plus) Interest in multimodal transportation issues and design is a plus Experience in roadway drainage design is a plus Consistent focus on clarity, accuracy, and completeness of work product Strong critical thinking abilities. Position Purpose

McAdams is seeking a Designer for our growing Roadway Design Practice. This position will support the planning and design of multimodal roadway facilities throughout North Carolina. Projects will include feasibility studies and facility design, including roadways, sidepaths/multi-use paths, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, cycle tracks, and other facilities for public and private clients. Professional engineers will mentor the ideal candidate and will be encouraged to pursue licensure as appropriate.

Essential Functions + Responsibilities

  • Support the design and produce plans, contract documents, specifications and costs estimates suitable for publicly bid projects.
  • Support the design and produce plans for offsite roadway improvements to public roads associated with private development projects.
  • Participate in field reviews of projects to support alignment development and recommendations.
  • Work directly with Project Managers to advance projects from feasibility analysis, to design, permitting, and successful bidding.
  • Support design, technical analyses, and engineering calculations and prepare plans, submittal packages and permitting applications.
  • Support public outreach and community engagement efforts.
  • Coordinate with other McAdams service lines (geomatics, water resources, etc.) to develop project plans.
  • Actively participate in a professional organization and with McAdams Young Professional Group.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering or transportation or a related field
  • EI preferred with expected growth towards obtaining PE licensure
  • 0-3 years of experience in civil engineering for public sector clients and/or projects
  • AutoCad/Civil 3D and/or Microstation/Geopak/OpenRoads Proficiency is a plus (corridor modeling a plus)
  • Interest in multimodal transportation issues and design is a plus
  • Experience in roadway drainage design is a plus
