What we're looking for: Nexamp is growing our Electrical Engineering team, and looking to hire a Lead Electrical Engineer. You will be responsible for review of PV and ESS projects design by providing technical expertise in the interconnection, construction, and assisting in the commissioning of distributed energy resources (DERs). This role requires an Electrical Engineer with experience in electrical infrastructure up to 345kV, including in-depth knowledge and expertise protective relaying and controls, and a strong working knowledge in applicable national codes including NEC and NESC. You will also will work closely with the Director of Electrical Engineering on department initiatives and process improvements. We are ideally supporting hybrid work out of our Boston, Chicago or DC offices, but could support remote work if needed. You will report directly to our Director, Electrical Engineering. What you'll do: Specify and review equipment shop drawings for switchgear, transformers, reclosers and other major electrical equipment. Perform advanced electrical modeling in ETAP and AmpCalc to coordinate system protection, determine fault-duty ratings, calculate arc-flash hazards, and run step/touch grounding analysis Manage scope of work for 3rd party electrical engineers including but not limited to studies; protection coordination, power flow, arc flash, Step/touch grounding analysis, PSCAD and PSSE modeling, and substation design Provide technical support to Nexamp Development, Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC), and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) departments for the entire life cycle of a project including development, permitting, construction, and asset management phases Support the project Engineering and Design Engineering team: Review draft construction set drawings for compliance to Nexamp and National Electric Code (NEC) compliance Assist with code interpretation and Requests for Information (RFI) responses Review grounding studies and thermal ampacity studies Assist with equipment due diligence Support the Grid Integration and Design Engineering team: Review, analyze, and interpret utility pre-screen reports, System Impact Studies, Interconnection Service Agreements, and utility negotiationsWitness test procedure review, code interpretation, protective settings development Implementation of non-wires alternatives, selective curtailment, and other grid-edge technologies Train and mentor junior engineering personnel Complete Project design reviews; review of single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and site layout designs for compliance with code, best practices, and utility requirements Respond to RFIs on active construction projects as required Provide technical support to Nexamp commissioning: Review medium voltage (MV) and high voltage (HV) equipment tests and factory tests Develop mitigation plans for non-performance to establish safe operation Review RDB files and relay test reports Certify mechanical completion on construction complete projects Lead new product research and implementation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and best practices, and assist the Director in the identification of process improvements and lead initiatives What you'll bring: 10+ years of electrical engineering experience 4+ years of PV experience PE certification Utility scale design and HV substation experience, preferred NABCEP certification preferred ETAP, SKM, or AmpCalc modeling experience Familiarity with AcSELerator and RDB generation Familiarity of PSSE, Aspen, or PSCAD modeling experience Expertise industry standard design codes such as National Electric Code (NEC), International Building Code (IBC), International Fire Code, National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and other industry standards Strong knowledge of electrical principles, including medium voltage distribution, protection system coordination and relaying principles Knowledge of construction means and methods Valid Driver's License or ability to obtain same Ability to work as part of a fast paced, multi-disciplinary team, demonstrated leadership capability of multi-disciplined teams Commitment to Nexamp's mission and have a passion for solving tomorrow's climate crisis today. As a Project Engineer, you will join a project team tasked with the responsibility for all technical and engineering aspects of your project. What we're looking for:

Nexamp is growing our Electrical Engineering team, and looking to hire a Lead Electrical Engineer. You will be responsible for review of PV and ESS projects design by providing technical expertise in the interconnection, construction, and assisting in the commissioning of distributed energy resources (DERs). This role requires an Electrical Engineer with experience in electrical infrastructure up to 345kV, including in-depth knowledge and expertise protective relaying and controls, and a strong working knowledge in applicable national codes including NEC and NESC. You will also will work closely with the Director of Electrical Engineering on department initiatives and process improvements.

We are ideally supporting hybrid work out of our Boston, Chicago or DC offices, but could support remote work if needed. You will report directly to our Director, Electrical Engineering.

What you'll do:

  • Specify and review equipment shop drawings for switchgear, transformers, reclosers and other major electrical equipment.

  • Perform advanced electrical modeling in ETAP and AmpCalc to coordinate system protection, determine fault-duty ratings, calculate arc-flash hazards, and run step/touch grounding analysis

  • Manage scope of work for 3rd party electrical engineers including but not limited to studies; protection coordination, power flow, arc flash, Step/touch grounding analysis, PSCAD and PSSE modeling, and substation design

  • Provide technical support to Nexamp Development, Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC), and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) departments for the entire life cycle of a project including development, permitting, construction, and asset management phases

  • Support the project Engineering and Design Engineering team:

  • Review draft construction set drawings for compliance to Nexamp and National Electric Code (NEC) compliance

  • Assist with code interpretation and Requests for Information (RFI) responses

  • Review grounding studies and thermal ampacity studies

  • Assist with equipment due diligence

  • Support the Grid Integration and Design Engineering team:

  • Review, analyze, and interpret utility pre-screen reports, System Impact Studies, Interconnection Service Agreements, and utility negotiationsWitness test procedure review, code interpretation, protective settings development

  • Implementation of non-wires alternatives, selective curtailment, and other grid-edge technologies

  • Train and mentor junior engineering personnel

  • Complete Project design reviews; review of single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and site layout designs for compliance with code, best practices, and utility requirements

  • Respond to RFIs on active construction projects as required

  • Provide technical support to Nexamp commissioning:

  • Review medium voltage (MV) and high voltage (HV) equipment tests and factory tests

  • Develop mitigation plans for non-performance to establish safe operation

  • Review RDB files and relay test reports

  • Certify mechanical completion on construction complete projects

  • Lead new product research and implementation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and best practices, and assist the Director in the identification of process improvements and lead initiatives

What you'll bring:

  • 10+ years of electrical engineering experience
  • 4+ years of PV experience
  • PE certification
  • Utility scale design and HV substation experience, preferred
  • NABCEP certification preferred
  • ETAP, SKM, or AmpCalc modeling experience
  • Familiarity with AcSELerator and RDB generation
  • Familiarity of PSSE, Aspen, or PSCAD modeling experience
  • Expertise industry standard design codes such as National Electric Code (NEC), International Building Code (IBC), International Fire Code, National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and other industry standards
  • Strong knowledge of electrical principles, including medium voltage distribution, protection system coordination and relaying principles
  • Knowledge of construction means and methods
  • Valid Driver's License or ability to obtain same

Compensation:

The reasonably estimated salary for this role at Nexamp ranges from $160,000 - $180,000. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual bonus programs based on individual and company performance, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans). Additionally, you may be eligible to participate in the Company's stock option plan. Actual base salary may vary based upon, but is not limited to, skills and qualifications, internal equity, performance, and geographic location.
