Summary: The person in this position will work on multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise for industrial processing, power, mining, and fuels facilities. Work will include integrating process, mechanical, and control requirements into comprehensive electrical systems. Tasks will include detailed design to support electrical installations in the power, mining, and hydroelectric sectors. This will involve the preparation of cost estimates, wiring and schematic diagrams, and bills of materials. This person will assist the team with proposal development including defining work scopes, deliverables, schedules, and budgets. Tasks will also involve design and analysis and include the preparation of plans and specifications, reports, and power and control design from the ground up. In addition, this person will be responsible for managing projects, providing technical leadership, and managing teams to meet client needs as well as coaching and mentoring less-experienced staff. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with academic coursework focused on power or control systems At least 5 years of related experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to the job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial organization Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain in one year Working knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to the project assignments described above Computer skills and familiarity with AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy environment that encourages self-initiative A flexible working style and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge and experience with industrial manufacturing processes such as power plants, petroleum refining, mining and/or minerals processing, or chemical production Demonstrated project organization and management skills Strong client-relationship and business-development skills Knowledge and skills related to PLC and HMI programming and commissioning Knowledge and experience related to piping and instrumentation diagram Knowledge and experience related to electrical installations in hazardous areas A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Duluth and Minneapolis, Minnesota, or Ann Arbor, Michigan, offices. Compensation: The anticipated base salary range for this position is $90,000-$115,000/year. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Compensation will vary based upon relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. Barr has a "no retained earnings" model and distributes all its profit to our employees through our bonus plan and ESOP. Work on the electrical/control systems defined in the construction documentation or product specifications for the following: Controllers, PLC, Woodward, HMIs, Switches, Industrial PCs, etc. House Power. Transformer, Panel Board, distribution and conduit, receptacles, lights and switches, HVAC, and switchgear heaters. Interface with switchgear controls, Engine block heaters, alternator strip heaters, Gas Train electrical needs, etc. DC Systems. Station Battery, Racks, consoles, chargers, DC panel Boards and distribution details. Special electrical/control needs such as Comms, gas leak detection, ventilation, fire detection and alarm interface to controls. Develop document set; including BOM, schematics, wire/conduit schedules, and other drawing details that will ensure the safe and efficient installation of this equipment. Identify and execute processes that reduce the overall cost to manufacture, install and operate our products. Ensure schedules and milestone dates are achieved via the Master Production Schedule. Prepare engineering drawings from sketches, verbal descriptions, specifications, and technical information. You will own advanced projects, not only working on incremental changes, and be an integral member of a small, fast-moving team. You will be working on all phases of board design (part selection, schematic design, layout, and bring-up) as well as work closely with chip designers, firmware engineers, mechanical and manufacturing engineers, and microfabrication experts for system integration. Job Responsibilities: Utilize electrical engineering fundamentals and best system design practices to deliver high-performant, reliable, and manufacturable extremely size-constraint systems Contribute to all phases of system and board design, from system definition to part selection, schematic design, layout, bring up, and design verification Help conduct R&D investigations and experiments to demonstrate feasibility of new technology for the implant and the charger Work cross functionally to ensure successful systems integration Contribute to system improvements that decrease latency and increase battery life, reliability, and safety Design and deploy systems for implant-charger hardware in the loop testing, and manufacturing line quality control Note: The team is hiring electrical engineers at all levels, both junior and senior. Summary:

The person in this position will work on multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise for industrial processing, power, mining, and fuels facilities. Work will include integrating process, mechanical, and control requirements into comprehensive electrical systems. Tasks will include detailed design to support electrical installations in the power, mining, and hydroelectric sectors. This will involve the preparation of cost estimates, wiring and schematic diagrams, and bills of materials. This person will assist the team with proposal development including defining work scopes, deliverables, schedules, and budgets.

Tasks will also involve design and analysis and include the preparation of plans and specifications, reports, and power and control design from the ground up.

In addition, this person will be responsible for managing projects, providing technical leadership, and managing teams to meet client needs as well as coaching and mentoring less-experienced staff. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with academic coursework focused on power or control systems

  • At least 5 years of related experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to the job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial organization

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain in one year

  • Working knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to the project assignments described above

  • Computer skills and familiarity with AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word

  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy environment that encourages self-initiative

  • A flexible working style and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Duluth and Minneapolis, Minnesota, or Ann Arbor, Michigan, offices.

Compensation:

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $90,000-$115,000/year. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Compensation will vary based upon relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. Barr has a "no retained earnings" model and distributes all its profit to our employees through our bonus plan and ESOP.

NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
