In this role, you will help build and test critical hardware products for Kodiak autonomous trucks. We're looking for someone to be hands-on with our products as well as an experienced technician who is able to support a diverse set of technical projects. In this role, you will: Be a core member on the Electrical Engineering team responsible for building high quality harness assemblies. You will lead, coordinate, and provide functional leadership for planning, organization, control, integration and completion of complex projects. Your expertise will support the full project lifecycle, covering electrical systems, emergency power systems, lighting design and controls, UPS/clean power supplies, power system studies, arc flash studies, telecommunications, fire alarms, security and access control, and lightning protection. Your Role Lead projects as Engineer of Record (EOR) and leads team members with specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, analysis, design, preparation of technical drawings and specifications. Lead coordination process between trades. Coordinate directly with designers, owners and contractors on project. Perform or plan engineering program to achieve project requirements. Organize project team as necessary. Control expenditures within limitations of project budget (Fee and Expenses). Review calculations output from calculation software to verify accuracy. Mentor team members engineering principles and how to apply them. Coordinate activities necessary to complete the technical documents (drawings and specifications) including resolving engineering design and technical problems. Review drawings to improve drawing quality. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree (B.S. or B.A.) from four-year college or university (ABET Accredited) 15+ years of related experience and/or training. Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required. Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex business documents. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey complex ideas through writing and presentations while motivating teams and negotiating with stakeholders to achieve strategic outcomes. Advanced financial knowledge to perform complex calculations and deliver thorough financial analysis to support project and business decisions. Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to interpret complex information and evaluate multiple solutions in dynamic situations. Primary Responsibilities HDR is currently seeking an Electrical Business Class Lead to lead a team of engineers and designers with experience in complex architectural and engineering projects across several market sectors such as Healthcare, Technology, Education, Science, Water Treatment, and Power. The position is in our growing Building Engineering Services design center in Houston, TX, also aligned with established regional design centers in San Antonio and Dallas, TX. The Building Engineering Services design center is a full service, multi-disciplinary team including mechanical, electrical, structural and civil engineers that is co-located with our Architecture and other practice groups to support a collaborative and fully integrated design process. The primary duties of the Electrical Business Class Lead are to provide the overall leadership to the team, identify growth opportunities through mentoring and training, coordinate the design work of electrical engineers and designers working within a multi-disciplined, full service, A/E team throughout the entire project development, and create a collaborative and motivating team culture to promote design excellence across the practice. Kodiak Robotics, Inc. was founded in 2018 and has become a leader in autonomous ground transportation committed to a safer and more efficient future for all. The company has developed an artificial intelligence (AI) powered technology stack purpose-built for commercial trucking and the public sector. The company delivers freight daily for its customers across the southern United States using its autonomous technology. In 2024, Kodiak became the first known company to publicly announce delivering a driverless semi-truck to a customer. Kodiak is also leveraging its commercial self-driving software to develop, test and deploy autonomous capabilities for the U.S. Department of Defense.

In this role, you will help build and test critical hardware products for Kodiak autonomous trucks. We're looking for someone to be hands-on with our products as well as an experienced technician who is able to support a diverse set of technical projects. An ideal candidate is someone who is local to the Bay Area and excited to collaborate with a diverse and dedicated team.

In this role, you will:

  • Be a core member on the Electrical Engineering team responsible for building high quality harness assemblies.
  • Perform incoming quality inspection for contract manufacturing harness builds
  • Organize and manage prototype test setups/fixtures
  • Perform testing on electrical components and assemblies
  • Perform soldering, mechanical assemblies, and subsystem builds
  • Manage BOMs and organize lab inventories
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment throughout builds and engineering tests.

What you'll bring:

  • 5+ years of experience working in an R&D or development lab environment in close collaboration with engineering staff.
  • Experience with prototype builds, testing and operating test equipment
  • Experience reading and building harnesses from harness drawings
  • Comfortable using soldering iron, multimeter, and crimping tools. Experience with oscilloscopes would be nice to have.
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively with other individuals in a team or project setting
  • You are self-motivated and able to work with little supervision, consistently take the initiative to get things done, do things before being asked by others.
  • Ability to consistently make timely decisions even in the face of complexity; balancing systematic analysis with decisiveness
