This professional position will perform a variety of duties as a lead electrical engineer on building and site projects primarily providing electrical expertise on industrial projects. This position will work in a team setting on the timely, professional, and accurate production of various design documents, contracts, technical drawings, code research, Revit models and other items associated with the delivery of electrical design services. Design electrical systems for industrial facilities, incorporating power distribution, LED and custom lighting design solutions, Life Safety Systems, and data/communications. Direct the electrical design and production efforts for projects. Engage with clients on projects. Operate both independently and in collaboration with the electrical team. Coordinate across disciplines on various projects. Provide guidance and mentorship to early career engineers and designers during the design & production phases. Prepare specifications and perform code research. Travel to project locations to collect details about current conditions. Some travel might be necessary. Visit construction sites to help ensure quality, monitor progress, verify compliance with the electrical design contract, and conduct construction observation tasks. Manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to detail. Ensure that proper permits and/or labels are obtained and properly posted, and signs permits prior to requesting an inspection Plan, design, and layout electrical installations, either new or modifications, in conjunction with plant engineering Develop plans for maintenance downturns, major plant shutdowns and CAPEX repair projects for assigned assets Develop maintenance budgets for assigned assets including maintenance CAPEX repair projects Coordinate all electrical inspections, annual or as needed and ensure corrections issued by the inspecting jurisdiction, are completed in a timely manner Effectively manage and develop plans for inspections, monitor and evaluate results; plans should include predictive and preventative maintenance for assigned assets Monitor and manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and metrics for assigned tasks Other duties as assigned Requirements Current Oregon General Supervising Electrician License or Oregon Limited Supervising Electrician License Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the NEC and Oregon Rule & Law Minimum of eight (8) years' experience working as a Journeyman Electrical Craftsperson in an industrial manufacturing environment Ability to read blueprints and schematic drawings Familiarity with predictive maintenance tools Strong computer skills in MS Excel, Projects and PowerPoint Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others to achieve shared objectives Takes a proactive approach to influence and balance stakeholder expectations Demonstrated ability to develop others through coaching and feedback Understanding of equipment technologies and limitations, and their effect on safety, quality, productivity, and cost Our total compensation package includes amazing benefits! Shive-Hattery's Cedar Rapids IA office has an opening for a Licensed Electrical Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of experience.

This professional position will perform a variety of duties as a lead electrical engineer on building and site projects primarily providing electrical expertise on industrial projects. This position will work in a team setting on the timely, professional, and accurate production of various design documents, contracts, technical drawings, code research, Revit models and other items associated with the delivery of electrical design services.

  • Design electrical systems for industrial facilities, incorporating power distribution, LED and custom lighting design solutions, Life Safety Systems, and data/communications.
  • Direct the electrical design and production efforts for projects.
  • Engage with clients on projects.
  • Operate both independently and in collaboration with the electrical team.
  • Coordinate across disciplines on various projects.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to early career engineers and designers during the design & production phases.
  • Prepare specifications and perform code research.
  • Travel to project locations to collect details about current conditions. Some travel might be necessary.
  • Visit construction sites to help ensure quality, monitor progress, verify compliance with the electrical design contract, and conduct construction observation tasks.
  • Manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to detail.
  • Work in a diverse market including Industrial, Institutional, Commercial, Education, Government and Healthcare facilities.
  • Engage in marketing and business development initiatives aimed at regional, national, and local growth for targeted clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering school; or a degree in Architectural Engineering with an electrical engineering emphasis.
  • Experience: 5+ years
  • Professional Engineer license with the State of Iowa, or the ability to obtain the license within a year
  • Experience in the design of lighting, power, and low-voltage systems for buildings and sites.
  • Experience in 3D modeling, Revit is preferred.
  • Practical experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is desired.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and possess good interpersonal skills.
  • For certain clients, we are required to conduct drug and/or alcohol testing on employees who perform work at the client site or on the client project. Consequently, employees and/or applicants will be required to satisfactorily pass a drug and/or alcohol test prior to any such work assignment.
