We’re looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer who thrives in fast-paced, high-collaboration environments and brings deep experience in PCB design, system bring-up, and cross-functional integration. You’ll be responsible for designing and validating printed circuit boards that bring together high-speed digital, low-noise analog, power delivery, and custom photonic interfaces serving as the backbone of our next-generation LiDAR systems. What You’ll Do Lead board-level development : Design mixed-signal, multi-layer PCBs that integrate ADCs, microcontrollers, FPGAs, power regulators, and custom analog interfaces. Own schematics, layout collaboration, BOM creation, and bring-up. Drive system integration : Work closely with photonics, mechanical, and embedded software teams to ensure tight alignment across hardware interfaces, physical constraints, and thermal/power management. Hands-on bring-up and validation : Perform functional testing, debug board-level issues, and characterize performance using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers, and signal generators. Manage product constraints : Balance trade-offs around size, power, thermal, EMI, and manufacturability in complex, space-constrained designs. Support production : Collaborate with manufacturing and test engineering to ensure designs are robust, testable, and ready for scaling. What You Bring Experience: 5+ years of experience in board-level hardware development, including design, bring-up, and validation of production-grade systems. Proven ownership of full product lifecycle from concept through production in compact, multi-disciplinary systems (e.g., sensing, robotics, autonomy). Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in schematic capture and PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer). Working knowledge of layout principles for high-speed digital (LVDS, SPI, I²C, DDR, SerDes) and noise-sensitive analog signals. Deep understanding of power distribution networks, switching regulators, and LDOs. Comfort with lab-based debugging using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and similar tools. Familiarity with DFM, component derating, and production test workflows. Preferred Extras: Experience with rigid-flex or high-density interconnect boards. Exposure to optoelectronic or photonic system integration. Experience working with contract manufacturers or supporting pilot builds. THE WORK: You’ll develop and implement a comprehensive management plan to streamline the delivery of the public agency fiber program, ensuring that all projects are completed within the specified timeframes and budget while meeting performance and quality standards. Position Summary SkyNano is seeking a mid-career Electrical Engineer specializing in Process Controls, Automation, and Power Systems to design, implement, and optimize the electrical and controls architecture that underpins our advanced manufacturing operations. This engineer will lead PLC- and HMI-based control strategies, ensure reliable integration of high-power systems, and support the specification and selection of large electrical components critical to our FOAK process. This role is ideal for an engineer with 5+ years of industrial experience who thrives in environments where they can contribute both at the design level and hands-on during integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting. Candidates should bring strong technical depth, a systems mindset, and experience with complex electromechanical or chemical process equipment. Key Responsibilities Process Controls & Automation - Design, implement, and maintain PLC-based control systems, often integrating motion control. - Develop, test, and deploy HMI/SCADA interfaces for process monitoring and operator use. - Design, write, test, and deploy LabVIEW software programs to drive operation of electrochemical and mechanical systems - Write, review, and debug PLC ladder logic, function block, and structured text code. - Define control strategies for high-temperature, high-current, and safety-critical processes. - Conduct controls architecture reviews ensuring system reliability, maintainability, and safety. Electrical System Design & Component Selection - Specify, size, and integrate major electrical components including motors, VFDs, MCCs, transformers, switchgear, high-current rectifiers, and power distribution panels. - Evaluate system loads and design for power quality, redundancy, and thermal performance. - Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using industry-standard tools. - Lead vendor engagement for electrical and controls components, ensuring technical compliance and cost-effectiveness.
