Senior Transmission Electrical Designer

Location: Reading, PA Job Type: Long-Term Contract

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Transmission Electrical Designer to join their growing Power Networks team in Reading, PA. This position offers the opportunity to work on high-voltage transmission line projects ranging from 34.5kV to 230kV, supporting the design and development of critical power infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have extensive transmission line design experience, strong technical drafting skills, and the ability to lead design efforts while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed, scaled design drawings for transmission line projects with minimal engineering supervision.
• Develop complete transmission line drawing packages and perform design checks on work prepared by other designers.
• Design transmission lines ranging from 34.5kV through 230kV.
• Perform structural analysis and design for pole, lattice, framed, and guyed transmission structures.
• Lead project assignments and provide guidance and mentoring to other design staff.
• Coordinate with engineering and other disciplines to ensure integrated, accurate project designs.
• Prepare and review bills of material, conduit schedules, and cable schedules.
• Produce high-quality drawings while maintaining compliance with project standards and client requirements.
• Work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting project schedules and budgets.
• Assist with conceptual layouts using existing reference information when project details are limited.
• Participate in site visits and field walkdowns as required.
• Ensure quality assurance and document control procedures are followed throughout project execution.
• Complete all work in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project procedures.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5+ years of transmission line design experience.
• Strong understanding of transmission line design principles and industry best practices.
• Proficiency with:
  • AutoCAD
  • MicroStation
  • PLS-CADD
  • PLS-POLE
• Experience working with both vector and raster drawing files.
• Ability to interpret and implement various client CAD standards.
• Knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards including:
  • NESC
  • IEEE
  • ANSI
  • IEC
  • CSA
  • IBC
  • ASCE-7
  • AISC
  • ACI 318
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Access).
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to travel to project sites for field walkdowns as needed.

Education

Required:

• Associate Degree or Diploma in Electrical Design, Drafting, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.

Preferred:

• Extensive experience designing transmission line projects and supporting utility or power delivery infrastructure.
