Electrical Engineer (PE) An Electrical Engineer (PE) will be responsible for performing, directing and supervising all aspects of electrical engineering on multi-discipline building design projects of moderate to large scope for commercial and government facilities. General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Performing all aspects of electrical engineering design as a lead engineer, including Conceptual Studies, Program Requirements, Design Analyses, Calculations, Equipment selection and layout, and System selection and layout for building design and site electrical utilities Meeting with clients (internal and external) to prepare and/or validate proposed scope of services Directing and supervising the work of EIT’s or Designers assigned to the project, particularly where engineering judgment on the part of the EIT/Designer is exercised and unusual or difficult problems are encountered Obtain guidance from senior engineers and the Department Head as necessary to resolve technical and coordination issues and conflicting criteria Complying with the Company’s quality control policies and procedures Providing and supervising electrical support services during the bidding process, i.e., preparing addenda and amendments as required Performing and supervising electrical construction phase services including representing the firm on-site, answering RFI’s, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings. Working with, responding to, and taking direction from Project Managers, Managing Principals, Design Principals, Department Directors, Department Head, and senior management Participate in team meetings and coordinating efforts with other team members Directing, supervising and training junior electrical staff as directed Mentoring and monitoring the professional development of junior electrical staff Education, Technology, and Experience Graduate of an ABET-accredited 4 or 5-year engineering program in one of the following disciplines: Electrical Engineering (Building design or power distribution focus), Electrical Engineering Technology (Building design or power distribution focus), Architectural Engineering (Electrical Engineering focus), or Architectural Engineering Technology (Electrical Engineering focus) Must be a fully licensed Professional Engineer in at least one US state, preferably in the local jurisdiction Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices with LEED AP accreditation preferred Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD), or Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional (CLEP), certifications are desirable Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the profession and an ever increasing knowledge base to enhance the design and documentation process Active participation in IEEE, IES or other related professional organizations is desirable An Electrical Engineer should be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, accounting, and information management. Working familiarity with design and production software to a point of being able to understand the capabilities and limitations of the programs and interact with the support staff in their use of the software is highly desirable. An Electrical Engineer should typically have 4 years or more of significant design and practice experience in a leadership role with a Electrical Engineering firm or a multi-discipline Architectural & Engineering firm with substantial knowledge of applicable energy codes and standards. Strong experience in the design of building power distribution, lighting, communications and security systems is desirable. Experience as a lead designer or Electrical Engineer in federal, state, municipal, healthcare, commercial, higher education or similar projects plus experience in Design/Build and CM at Risk project delivery methods is desirable. Previous experience with wireless communications projects will be given additional consideration for Electrical Engineers assigned to our Wireless Communications division. Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing third-party consultants. Provide feedback on the consultant’s performance and areas of improvement. Review PV Electrical Engineering deliverables for owner compliance including drawing sets, electrical calculations for AC and DC cable sizing, underground cable thermal analysis, overhead medium voltage design, voltage drop, grounding, arc flash analysis, and other electrical design elements and studies. Review PV Electrical engineering deliverables for local, state, and federal code and safety requirements. Provide permit application support. Review PV electrical engineering designs for design optimization recommendations. Coordinate responses to construction RFIs and equipment Submittals from vendors, sub-contractors, and independent engineers. Perform basic functions of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, AutoCAD, and PV design review software. Additional duties as assigned and/or directed. Must-Haves: 4-6+ years of PV Electrical Engineering experience. 2+ years of Engineering Management experience. Utility-scale solar industry experience. AutoCAD proficiency. Job Description

Electrical Engineer (PE)

An Electrical Engineer (PE) will be responsible for performing, directing and supervising all aspects of electrical engineering on multi-discipline building design projects of moderate to large scope for commercial and government facilities. 

General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performing all aspects of electrical engineering design as a lead engineer, including Conceptual Studies, Program Requirements, Design Analyses, Calculations, Equipment selection and layout, and System selection and layout for building design and site electrical utilities
  • Meeting with clients (internal and external) to prepare and/or validate proposed scope of services
  • Directing and supervising the work of EIT’s or Designers assigned to the project, particularly where engineering judgment on the part of the EIT/Designer is exercised and unusual or difficult problems are encountered
  • Obtain guidance from senior engineers and the Department Head as necessary to resolve technical and coordination issues and conflicting criteria
  • Complying with the Company’s quality control policies and procedures
  • Providing and supervising electrical support services during the bidding process, i.e., preparing addenda and amendments as required
  • Performing and supervising electrical construction phase services including representing the firm on-site, answering RFI’s, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings.
  • Working with, responding to, and taking direction from Project Managers, Managing Principals, Design Principals, Department Directors, Department Head, and senior management
  • Participate in team meetings and coordinating efforts with other team members
  • Directing, supervising and training junior electrical staff as directed
  • Mentoring and monitoring the professional development of junior electrical staff

Education, Technology, and Experience

  • Graduate of an ABET-accredited 4 or 5-year engineering program in one of the following disciplines: Electrical Engineering (Building design or power distribution focus), Electrical Engineering Technology (Building design or power distribution focus), Architectural Engineering (Electrical Engineering focus), or Architectural Engineering Technology (Electrical Engineering focus)
  • Must be a fully licensed Professional Engineer in at least one US state, preferably in the local jurisdiction
  • Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices with LEED AP accreditation preferred
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD), or Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional (CLEP), certifications are desirable
  • Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the profession and an ever increasing knowledge base to enhance the design and documentation process
  • Active participation in IEEE, IES or other related professional organizations is desirable
  • An Electrical Engineer should be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, accounting, and information management.
  • Working familiarity with design and production software to a point of being able to understand the capabilities and limitations of the programs and interact with the support staff in their use of the software is highly desirable.
  • An Electrical Engineer should typically have 4 years or more of significant design and practice experience in a leadership role with a Electrical Engineering firm or a multi-discipline Architectural & Engineering firm with substantial knowledge of applicable energy codes and standards.
  • Strong experience in the design of building power distribution, lighting, communications and security systems is desirable.
  • Experience as a lead designer or Electrical Engineer in federal, state, municipal, healthcare, commercial, higher education or similar projects plus experience in Design/Build and CM at Risk project delivery methods is desirable.
  • Previous experience with wireless communications projects will be given additional consideration for Electrical Engineers assigned to our Wireless Communications division.

Physical Requirements

Work is sedentary and often performed in an office setting. The work area is lighted, heated, and ventilated. This position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive movements, bending and lifting of minimal weight.
