Located in Malaga, a community within the city limits of Fresno, California, the Malaga Power Facility operates as a simple-cycle peaking plant. The site features two GE LM6000 PC Sprint combustion turbine generator units with a combined output of 96 megawatts. The plant helps support local and regional reliability by providing fast-start capacity during periods of high electrical demand in the Central Valley. Opportunity Summary The Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical (IC&E) Technician supports the reliability and fast-start capability of the Malaga Power Facility’s two GE LM6000 PC Sprint units. This role maintains and repairs essential instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment needed for dependable peaking-plant operation. Key duties include performing preventive maintenance, calibrating, and troubleshooting PLC- and DCS-based turbine controls, and interpreting data from diagnostic technologies. The technician also helps identify developing system issues early, enabling timely repairs that reduce downtime and maintain plant availability during high-demand periods. This position will also support the Panoche (49.5MW) and Midway (122MW) Hybrid Energy Centers in Firebaugh, California, which use Pratt & Whitney FT8 simple-cycle units with projected battery storage. Your scope of responsibility as IC&E Technician includes the following primary functions: Carry out preventive maintenance on major equipment, systems, and emergency backup systems associated with the two GE LM6000 PC Sprint combustion turbine generator units. Inspect, repair, install, and remove motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signals, communication systems, and storage batteries; work with electrical systems up to 4,160 volts. Troubleshoot and analyze DCS, PLC, and turbine control equipment to support reliable LM6000 operation. Conduct periodic calibration and maintenance of Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMs) to ensure environmental compliance. Support vibration and reliability efforts by applying advanced technologies to identify early indicators of machinery defects before scheduled downtime repairs. Utilize vibration, infrared, and ultrasonic tools during reliability routes to monitor equipment condition. Review and interpret reliability route data, identify developing issues, and generate detailed work requests. Manage forecasting, inventory, and reordering of spare parts to maintain plant reliability and availability. Maintain accurate files, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment. Assist with the administrative upkeep of operating manuals, technical references, diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance documentation. Provide support as needed to the Panoche and Midway Hybrid Energy Centers. Handle additional tasks as assigned to promote efficient operation of the Malaga Power Facility.
