Where You'll Work : This internship is based at our Headquarters in St. Louis, MO, and will be an on-site role. The program is expected to run from mid-May through early August. What You'll Be Doing: Assist in creating and modifying one-lines, conduit schedules, bills of material (BOM), layouts, relay panel arrangements, existing steel drawings, and cable lists for high-voltage substations (32.4–500 kV). Prepare engineering and construction estimate documents, including yard layouts, plans, section views, and electrical details. Draft and edit technical specifications for substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, and control houses. Collaborate with engineers on integrating protection, control, and monitoring systems. Apply field mark-ups to project drawings and perform supervised calculations (voltage drop, CT burden, lighting, short circuit, etc.). Contributing to a collaborative team, with the flexibility to step in and support other roles or duties as needed. What We're Looking For: Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering (minimum GPA 2.75). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Clear communicator with solid interpersonal skills. This role is perfect for a detail-driven engineer who enjoys solving complex system problems, developing and reviewing protection philosophies, and mentoring others in the application of analytical tools such as ETAP, SKM, or ASPEN.As a senior member of the team, you will take ownership of study deliverables, lead technical development of relay settings, and interface directly with clients to ensure expectations are met. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring junior engineers and helping shape the standards and processes of the team.Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and review of relay settings for substations, distribution systems, and industrial facilities
  • Perform and oversee power system studies including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, coordination, and equipment evaluation
  • Review and interpret time-current curves, relay logic, and protection scheme drawings
  • Use and guide others in the use of tools such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, and ASPEN
  • Serve as technical lead for client-facing protection-related scopes
  • Collaborate with internal substation and P&C teams to ensure cohesive design integration
  • Develop and maintain protection philosophies, study templates, and QA/QC protocols
  • Produce clear, accurate, and defensible technical reports and documentation
  • Support occasional fieldwork, commissioning, or troubleshooting efforts (travel up to 15%)

Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 6–8 years of experience in relay settings, protection schemes, and power systems studies
  • Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, or ASPEN is required
  • Experience with utility or large industrial clients, including direct coordination with client engineering teams
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable standards: IEEE, ANSI, NESC, NEC, and NETA
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • PE license strongly preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed
