You in This Role As an Electrical Engineer – UAV Electronics at Unusual Machines, you will lead the design and layout of printed circuit boards for a wide range of FPV and UAV electronics. You’ll own designs from early concept and schematic capture through PCB layout, prototyping, bring-up, and production release. This role is highly hands-on and product-focused. You’ll immediately contribute to several in-progress designs while also shaping future product lines across flight controllers, ESCs, power distribution boards, sensor modules, and radio/FPV electronics. You’ll work closely with firmware, test, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are robust, manufacturable, and ready to scale. Job Description

You in This Role  As an Electrical Engineer – UAV Electronics at Unusual Machines, you will lead the design and layout of printed circuit boards for a wide range of FPV and UAV electronics. You’ll own designs from early concept and schematic capture through PCB layout, prototyping, bring-up, and production release.

This role is highly hands-on and product-focused. You’ll immediately contribute to several in-progress designs while also shaping future product lines across flight controllers, ESCs, power distribution boards, sensor modules, and radio/FPV electronics. You’ll work closely with firmware, test, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are robust, manufacturable, and ready to scale.

A Day in the Life

• Designing schematics and multi-layer PCBs in Altium Designer • Routing high-speed digital, power, and mixed-signal designs for UAV applications • Reviewing layouts for signal integrity, power integrity, EMI, and manufacturability • Generating manufacturing deliverables such as Gerbers/ODB++, BOMs, and assembly drawings • Supporting prototype bring-up, hardware debugging, and production issues • Collaborating with firmware and test engineers during board validation • Maintaining and improving component libraries and design standards

What You’ll Do

• Perform schematic capture and PCB design/layout in Altium Designer for complex UAV electronics • Design power, digital, and mixed-signal circuits for flight controllers, ESCs, and related hardware • Generate complete manufacturing packages, including Gerbers/ODB++, pick-and-place files, and BOMs • Support board bring-up, validation, and production test efforts • Debug hardware issues and support manufacturing as designs move into volume production • Apply DFM, DFT, and EMI/EMC best practices throughout the design process • Maintain component libraries, footprints, and design documentation

What You’ll Bring

Required: • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience • 3+ years of hands-on PCB design for embedded systems (UAV, FPV, robotics, or similar) • Strong experience with schematic capture and PCB layout in Altium Designer • Solid understanding of power electronics, MCUs, sensors, and common interfaces (SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, USB) • Experience with prototype bring-up, manufacturing test, and hardware debugging

Preferred: • Experience designing high-density, multi-layer boards for flight electronics • Familiarity with FPV/UAV systems and real-time embedded constraints • Experience supporting products from prototype through volume production
