The Electrical / IT Inspector will support LAWA’s electrical construction inspection and work as a member of LAWA Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA’s Capital Improvement Program. Electrical/IT inspection staff shall have a thorough knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques of the electrical/IT trade; the ability to diagnose violations and hazards in new and existing electrical/IT installations and take a proactive approach during construction; have a general understanding of low voltage systems including fire/life safety and information technology; have the ability to read and interpret contract documents, electrical codes, applicable standards. Essential Job Duties Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of electrical and IT systems across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications, review and interpret construction documents including blueprints and shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders. Demonstrates strong proficiency in preparing comprehensive daily inspection reports that clearly document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observed construction activities, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accountability in tracking progress and identifying issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns in a timely manner . Verify contractor compliance with local and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70, 70E, 72) and LAWA-specific standards. Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values. Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed. Computer proficiency to review and utilize electronic equipment for contract documents efficiently, including change orders, submittals, RFIs, and other inspection documents, with minimal supervision. Perform inspections of electrical installations including, but not limited to: Underground utilities and duct banks High-voltage switchgear and electrical panels Conduit racks, conductors, and grounding systems Interior and exterior lighting systems Fire life safety systems including smoke/heat detectors and FM-200 suppression systems Electrical shutdowns, lockout/tagout procedures, and breaker coordination Inspect IT infrastructure installations such as: Low-voltage systems (voice/data, security, access control) Door card readers, security cameras, and public address (P.A.) systems Communication cabling and equipment rooms Requirements Professional Experience Level/Minimum Qualifications Electrical/IT inspection staff shall have 3 years or more experience performing electrical/IT inspections for Building Construction. Join our team at Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc as an Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical Technician. You'll work hands-on with advanced systems that power our plants, solving complex problems and driving operational excellence. What You’ll Do: Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and SCADA systems Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of plant instrumentation, including sensors, transmitters, control valves, motor control center, and control circuits to ensure performance of turbine, generator, and other plant equipment. Diagnose and resolve issues with electrical, instrumentation, and control systems Optimize system performance by analyzing operational data and suggesting improvements Support plant operations including start-ups, shutdowns, and emergencies Collaborate with engineering teams on system upgrades, plant improvements and new projects Create and manage work orders, ensuring all maintenance activities are documented What We’re Looking For: Associates degree in an electrical discipline, or equivalent experience (power plant or military experience preferred) Strong technical skills with instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems Proficiency in reading control diagrams, schematics, and blueprints Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) Ability to operate industrial equipment (forklifts, hand/power tools) Commitment to safety and adherence to protocols such as lock-out tag-out (LOTO) What Associated provides: We are committed to rewarding talent with top pay.
