Service Technician - Commercial Generators Summary Responsible for ongoing maintenance and repair of contracted and non-contracted generator and power distribution equipment. Minimum Qualifications Level II Technician requires three years of field experience servicing generator systems with some experience on 500kw+, proficient with preventative maintenance, retrofitting basic controls, minor ATS repairs and loadbanking equipment. All Candidates should have a High School diploma or GED equivalent, related military experience or equivalent field experience. Ability to perform triennial maintenance, engine diagnostics, fuel system priming and replacing failed engine components. Operational and functional understanding of Automatic Transfer Systems, able to troubleshoot and repair with minimal direction. Ability to read and decipher electronic schematics and troubleshoot discreet mechanical and electronic systems to the component level with guidance from our Product Support team. Experience with or ability to quickly learn advanced generator and electric system controls including Woodward, Beckwith, and PLC equipment in an advanced electric controls environment. Ability to read and interpret technical instructions, safety manuals, service manuals and policies and procedures. Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must observe all safety standards. Assists in the completion of bid analysis and provides input during the subcontractor selection process. Assists in developing sequencing requirements of various systems and providing solutions to meet the schedule requirements. Gains knowledge of design documents in order to identify potential quality problems to assist in developing constructability review reports. Learns to perform job inspections to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality and timely manner. Learns and assists with the shop drawing/submittal process to comply with the contract documents. Assists with the commissioning process including developing pre-functional checklists, functional testing procedures and actual functional testing. Develops pre-functional checklists and functional testing procedures. Verifies contractor's performance of functional test. Reviews and approves shop drawings prior to submitting to the design team. Generates and issues the Commissioning Plan for approval to the appropriate parties. Verifies deficiencies are corrected and submits commissioning documentation to owners. Provides mentoring to less experienced co-workers. Creates M/E tools and innovative solutions to continuously improve processes and work products. Negotiates subcontracts with subcontractors. Purchases equipment from equipment vendors for assigned projects. Builds relationships by being the direct face with the client. Service Technician - Commercial Generators

Summary

Responsible for ongoing maintenance and repair of contracted and non-contracted generator and power distribution equipment. Additionally, this position is responsible for technical support to customers on operational or maintenance aspects.

Qualification Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Level II Technician requires three years of field experience servicing generator systems with some experience on 500kw+, proficient with preventative maintenance, retrofitting basic controls, minor ATS repairs and loadbanking equipment.
  • All Candidates should have a High School diploma or GED equivalent, related military experience or equivalent field experience.
  • Ability to perform triennial maintenance, engine diagnostics, fuel system priming and replacing failed engine components.
  • Operational and functional understanding of Automatic Transfer Systems, able to troubleshoot and repair with minimal direction.
  • Ability to read and decipher electronic schematics and troubleshoot discreet mechanical and electronic systems to the component level with guidance from our Product Support team.
  • Experience with or ability to quickly learn advanced generator and electric system controls including Woodward, Beckwith, and PLC equipment in an advanced electric controls environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical instructions, safety manuals, service manuals and policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must observe all safety standards.

Essential Functions

  • Daily travel with independent work structure.
  • Provide 24x7 "on-call" services as required unless on PTO or Off Call.
  • Maintain and safeguard company issued equipment, tools, and instruments.
  • Battery installations and replacements.
  • Perform required preventative maintenance service to equipment under contract as scheduled.
  • Customer contact and interface.
  • Communicate availability status to corporate office.
  • Protect company proprietary information, manuals, and records.
  • Use of electronic and electrical test equipment as necessary.
  • Coordinate and manage all on-site subcontractors hired by PSS as necessary.
  • Maintain company vehicle in safe and operational condition.
  • Ensure that work is performed to PSS standards.
  • Complete all paperwork, including Field Service Reports, Time Sheets, Expense Reports, and other job required reports timely and accurately.
  • Provide technical support to customers upon request.
  • Maintain Technical documentation for study and/or review.
  • Willing and able to attend training as company deems necessary.
  • Own and maintain personal set of mechanical tools.
  • Cross train in other areas as needed.

Physical Demands

  • Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work. Physical Activity: 85% physical activity required on customer site working with equipment, 15% form completion, email, other administrative tasks and completing technical support activities by way of telephone and computer communication.
  • May involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-75 pounds).
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. Occasionally required to use hands, to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms.
  • Combination of climbing and balancing to include climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Must have the physical ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to Protective Glasses, Protective Gloves, and Protective Footwear as required.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to read computer screens, paper documents, equipment.
  • Ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals.
  • Up to 10 consecutive hours driving heavy duty truck.
  • May be required to work long and unpredictable hours.
  • Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally and hear others speaking.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background check, drug testing and MVR clearance.

Work Environment

  • Work is 85%+ in an outdoor environment in all types of weather.
  • The environment is varied since the performance of the essential duties is at customer sites.
  • Must be willing to travel out of market/state up to 25% of the time.
  • Requires exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as temperature and noise extremes, vibrations, machinery, hazardous materials, confined spaces, traffic hazards, and various chemicals.
