Voyant PhotonicsNew York, New York
About Us: Voyant Photonics, is transforming machine perception with a new class of LiDAR devices that are compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand and powerful enough to measure range, velocity, and reflectivity with unparalleled accuracy. By leveraging cutting-edge silicon photonic chips smaller than your fingertip, we deliver sensors that are not only revolutionary in performance but also affordable enough to integrate into any system. Our technology disrupts the status quo of bulky, expensive, and power-hungry LiDAR systems, making high-precision sensing accessible for widespread adoption in robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, industrial automation, and beyond. With Voyant, the next generation of machines can see, understand, and navigate the world like never before. Discover how we’re redefining what’s possible by making real products out of cutting edge research in silicon photonics. The Opportunity: We are seeking a Senior Electrical Test Engineer to lead the electrical characterization, validation, and production test development for Voyant’s LiDAR modules. This role bridges analog design and test engineering, requiring a strong foundation in schematics, PCB layout, and analog/mixed-signal design. You’ll own the electrical test infrastructure from early prototype validation to production bring-up, ensuring each LiDAR module meets performance, reliability, and manufacturability targets. The role is deeply cross-functional, collaborating with Electrical Design, Photonics, Firmware, and Manufacturing partners to drive end-to-end electrical integrity across the product life cycle. Key Responsibilities: Develop and execute electrical test plans for LiDAR modules and subassemblies (silicon photonics components, AFEs, ADCs, TIAs, power rails, timing, and system interfaces). Design and build test fixtures and PCBAs to support bench and production test (signal integrity, noise, calibration, and functional testing). Analyze and debug analog/mixed-signal circuits, including current drivers, amplifiers, ADC front ends, and power conditioning networks. Define test coverage and validation criteria for electrical subsystems across temperature, vibration, and power conditions. Collaborate with design engineers to translate schematic and layout intent into robust, testable hardware. Drive noise characterization and signal integrity improvement, including grounding, shielding, and analog isolation strategies. Develop automated test scripts and data collection pipelines (Python preferred) to ensure repeatability and yield traceability. Work with vendors and CMs to bring up test stations, validate instrumentation, and qualify electrical boards for production. Lead failure analysis and root-cause investigations, closing the loop between design, test, and manufacturing. Maintain calibration, documentation, and data integrity for all electrical test infrastructure. Up to 30% travel to supplier sites, contract manufacturers, or partner facilities. Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. 5+ years of experience in hardware validation, test, or electrical design for complex systems (LiDAR, imaging, radar, sensors, or instrumentation). Proficiency in schematic design and PCB layout review (Altium or similar). Strong foundation in analog design, AFE development, ADC/DAC interfaces, and low-noise/high-speed circuit techniques. Experience with test instrumentation (oscilloscopes, SMUs, AWGs, DAQs, network analyzers) and automated control via Python or LabVIEW. Demonstrated ability to debug at the board and system level — probing, reworking, and iterating on test hardware. Familiarity with statistical process control, yield tracking, and test data analysis. Experience interfacing with vendors, CMs, and test equipment suppliers to stand up production test lines. Preferred Qualifications: Background in FMCW LiDAR, coherent sensing, or other precision analog front ends. Experience with power distribution design, transient suppression, and EMI mitigation. Exposure to photonic systems, optical receivers, or mixed photonic/electrical integration. Experience with manufacturing analytics, MES systems, or factory test automation. Benefits Package: Competitive base salary and a meaningful equity package. Comprehensive health benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision). Unlimited PTO and paid company holidays. Team events and company meetups. Complimentary lunch provided daily at our NYC office Equal Opportunity Employer Voyant Photonics is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace.
