WE BELIEVE IN THE TRANSFORMATIONAL POWER OF COMFORT Job Summary: This position is responsible for the research, design, and development of electrical components and systems, with a strong focus on failure mode effects analysis (FMEA) and life cycle reliability. This role plays a critical part in driving the innovation and launch of products that meet and exceed industry-leading performance and safety standards. The engineer will collaborate extensively across departments, including R&D, Procurement, Quality, Manufacturing, Customer Care, and Merchandising, to ensure seamless integration and delivery of new products. The role will transform design concepts into manufacturable and compliant products while providing technical support throughout the product life cycle. Job Description: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties as assigned): Evaluate and revise product design concepts with new or modified electrical content for feasibility, manufacturability, and production readiness. Develop detailed electrical designs, requirements, and systems to meet program needs and ensure successful product launches. Assist in creating and testing prototypes to validate basic functionality, usability, and compliance with industry standards. Lead the development and updating of electrical requirements and test methods using FMEAs and other quality tools. Validate product designs through rigorous verification processes and ensure adherence to applicable regulatory standards (e.g., UL 962, UL1647, UL1310, CE). Track and incorporate changes in regulations, maintaining electronic program compliance for La-Z-Boy products. Serve as the electrical design liaison between suppliers and the La-Z-Boy development team, reviewing technical feasibility, supplier quotes, and quality documentation. Provide technical support for electrical system issue investigations, collaborating with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve problems effectively. Collaborate cross-functionally to develop training materials, troubleshooting guides, and repair processes for Customer Care teams. Support plant operations in the proper handling, testing, and development of electrical component gauges in the manufacturing environment. Evaluate the feasibility of integrating emerging technologies into La-Z-Boy products and ensure the protection of intellectual property and patents. Participate in new supplier audits and provide input on supplier agreements to ensure quality and compliance with La-Z-Boy standards. SCOPE & IMPACT: This position will play a critical role in ensuring successful product launches and high customer satisfaction by driving quality-focused design and problem-solving through La-Z-Boy's product development system. The engineer's designs will be integrated across a diverse range of materials, including polymers, metals, wood products, and foams, ensuring robust and reliable performance. In collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Procurement, the engineer will establish and refine supplier requirements, optimizing the effectiveness of La-Z-Boy's $20 million annual electrical component spend. The engineer's work will directly impact product quality, regulatory compliance, and the seamless integration of emerging technologies into our products. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and 2-4 years of experience in an electronic design role or equivalent. Proficient with the following: Logic control systems Sensors, low power converters, and analog or mixed-signal circuit design Test and debug equipment Designing electronic circuit assemblies for medium volume, low-cost low power, small products Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). To learn more visit: www.waabi.ai You will… Debug and resolve hardware issues efficiently using first principles approach. Perform PCB rework, including soldering and desoldering ICs as needed. Collaborate with Firmware, Systems, and Electrical teams to support system integration and testing. Automate hardware commissioning processes and provide both remote and on-site support for troubleshooting. Develop a diagnostic suite for V&V to support all modules. Document issues, solutions, and best practices to drive continuous improvements. Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent industry experience. 4+ years of work experience debugging hardware component failures. Hands on experience building HIL benches. Strong knowledge in debugging CAN and automotive ethernet . Proficiency with Linux for command-line tasks and Python for automation, data processing, hardware interaction, or system utilities. Experience with frameworks such as PySerial, NumPy, or pytest. Passionate about self-driving technologies, solving hard problems, and creating innovative solutions. Bonus/nice to have: Familiarity with low-level programming (e.g., C, embedded systems, or firmware development). Experience with GUI development using libraries such as PyQt, Tkinter, or PySide Experience with functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262). Familiarity with external labs for compliance and validation testing. Work Environment: Requires 4 days a week of in-office collaboration to ensure effective hardware bring-up and validation. The US yearly salary range for this role is: $151,000 to $229,357 USD in addition to competitive perks & benefits. Waabi (US) Inc.'s yearly salary ranges are determined based on several factors in accordance with the Company's compensation practices. The salary base range is reflective of the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the research, design, and development of electrical components and systems, with a strong focus on failure mode effects analysis (FMEA) and life cycle reliability. This role plays a critical part in driving the innovation and launch of products that meet and exceed industry-leading performance and safety standards. The engineer will collaborate extensively across departments, including R&D, Procurement, Quality, Manufacturing, Customer Care, and Merchandising, to ensure seamless integration and delivery of new products. The role will transform design concepts into manufacturable and compliant products while providing technical support throughout the product life cycle.

Job Description:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties as assigned):

  • Evaluate and revise product design concepts with new or modified electrical content for feasibility, manufacturability, and production readiness.
  • Develop detailed electrical designs, requirements, and systems to meet program needs and ensure successful product launches.
  • Assist in creating and testing prototypes to validate basic functionality, usability, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Lead the development and updating of electrical requirements and test methods using FMEAs and other quality tools.
  • Validate product designs through rigorous verification processes and ensure adherence to applicable regulatory standards (e.g., UL 962, UL1647, UL1310, CE).
  • Track and incorporate changes in regulations, maintaining electronic program compliance for La-Z-Boy products.
  • Serve as the electrical design liaison between suppliers and the La-Z-Boy development team, reviewing technical feasibility, supplier quotes, and quality documentation.
  • Provide technical support for electrical system issue investigations, collaborating with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve problems effectively.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to develop training materials, troubleshooting guides, and repair processes for Customer Care teams.
  • Support plant operations in the proper handling, testing, and development of electrical component gauges in the manufacturing environment.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of integrating emerging technologies into La-Z-Boy products and ensure the protection of intellectual property and patents.
  • Participate in new supplier audits and provide input on supplier agreements to ensure quality and compliance with La-Z-Boy standards.

SCOPE & IMPACT:

This position will play a critical role in ensuring successful product launches and high customer satisfaction by driving quality-focused design and problem-solving through La-Z-Boy's product development system. The engineer's designs will be integrated across a diverse range of materials, including polymers, metals, wood products, and foams, ensuring robust and reliable performance. In collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Procurement, the engineer will establish and refine supplier requirements, optimizing the effectiveness of La-Z-Boy's $20 million annual electrical component spend. The engineer's work will directly impact product quality, regulatory compliance, and the seamless integration of emerging technologies into our products.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and 2-4 years of experience in an electronic design role or equivalent.

  • Proficient with the following:

  • Logic control systems

  • Sensors, low power converters, and analog or mixed-signal circuit design

  • Test and debug equipment

  • Designing electronic circuit assemblies for medium volume, low-cost low power, small products

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and diverse stakeholders.

  • Up to 25% travel required

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of statistical process capability (SPC) concepts.
  • Understanding of EMI and ESD
