The Development Project Manager (Electrical SME for Data Center Design) is primarily responsible for leading and managing the design, preconstruction and construction activities on a given project(s). The Project Manager (Electrical SME) will interact on a daily basis with Facilities, Contractors, Designers, Engineers, Commissioning Agents, Vendors, and Data Center Operations staff and should have both written and oral communication skills commensurate with this level of regular communication. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. Other duties may be assigned. Review drawing packages for adherence to design standards. Collaborate with internal and external design teams to evaluate designs to ensure they meet the established design standards, local code requirements, and requirements of the local AHJs. Partner with internal and external stakeholders to define project scope requirements, deviations from the standards, and communicating requirements with the design team. Work with construction, commissioning, and risk management teams to answer requests for information and value engineering queries. Collaborate with the procurement team to review OFCI equipment submittals for compliance with the standard design criteria. Support project teams in resolving design issues discovered during construction and commissioning phases. Work closely with strategic procurement team on equipment procurement Work with consultants to develop and review Short Circuit, Coordination, and Arc Flash studies (SCCAF) for adherence to the design standards. Assist Development leadership and Project Manager with day-to-day activities and responsibilities Assist with updates on development program & project status on a monthly basis suitable for executive level reviews. Work with QTS stakeholders, design, and construction teams to help with master development program for site(s), including a complete campus design solution and capital budget. Review project schedules and manage teams to on-time completion Establish and maintain relationships serving as liaison with key QTS stakeholders Create & build relationships that enhance QTS's ability to be a leader in creating the World's Most Valuable Data Center Real Estate This position will require 25% travel. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent professional experience Five or more years of professional experience in commercial construction practices and procedures, including management of Lump Sum, Construction Management @ Risk, and Design Build project delivery methods from conceptual development through procurement to close out Experience with Microsoft Office suite, specifically PowerPoint for use in communicating program updates to executive level, and Excel to create and maintain site program & individual project budgets Be able to travel up to 25% of the time PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of 5 years of experience in design engineering or the construction industry, related to all aspects of Electrical, including power systems design, redundant systems, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash analysis. 2+ years of experience applying local codes, NEC requirements, and other Electrical industry standards, procedures, and methodologies. Experience designing electrical systems for Data Centers, construction, operations, and/or facility maintenance. Project Management or Project Lead experience in large-scale projects. Experience with Short Circuit, Coordination, and Arc Flash analysis and modeling. Direct experience in the construction of data centers, critical medical, industrial, construction, oil and gas, or large-scale mechanical and power systems. Strong knowledge of NEC, and other Electrical industry standards, procedures, and methodologies Experience with performance-based alternatives to prescriptive electrical design Advance knowledge of electrical engineering systems and their integration into mission-critical environments. Basic multidisciplinary knowledge of mission critical systems, design process, pre-construction requirements, and the construction process. Proven ability to communicate complex technical issues to senior leadership or non-engineers. As a Sr. Electrical Design Engineer on the customer product team, you'll have complete ownership over the development of millions of consumer-facing devices that we ship directly to end users (Starlink dishes/user terminals, Wi-Fi routers, etc.). Our customers currently include teachers in the most remote parts of the Amazon, researchers in Antarctica, digital nomads who travel via RV, emergency responders, commercial airlines, cruise lines, and residential users who live in more rural or developing areas. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and verification of the entire electrical system. You will interact regularly with senior leadership to influence the fundamental operation of our constellation and network while collaborating with electrical, silicon, software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to steer this project from initial concept development to full-scale production. The Development Project Manager (Electrical SME for Data Center Design) is primarily responsible for leading and managing the design, preconstruction and construction activities on a given project(s). The Project Manager (Electrical SME) will interact on a daily basis with Facilities, Contractors, Designers, Engineers, Commissioning Agents, Vendors, and Data Center Operations staff and should have both written and oral communication skills commensurate with this level of regular communication.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Review drawing packages for adherence to design standards.
  • Collaborate with internal and external design teams to evaluate designs to ensure they meet the established design standards, local code requirements, and requirements of the local AHJs.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to define project scope requirements, deviations from the standards, and communicating requirements with the design team.
  • Work with construction, commissioning, and risk management teams to answer requests for information and value engineering queries.
  • Collaborate with the procurement team to review OFCI equipment submittals for compliance with the standard design criteria.
  • Support project teams in resolving design issues discovered during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Work closely with strategic procurement team on equipment procurement
  • Work with consultants to develop and review Short Circuit, Coordination, and Arc Flash studies (SCCAF) for adherence to the design standards.
  • Assist Development leadership and Project Manager with day-to-day activities and responsibilities
  • Assist with updates on development program & project status on a monthly basis suitable for executive level reviews.
  • Work with QTS stakeholders, design, and construction teams to help with master development program for site(s), including a complete campus design solution and capital budget.
  • Review project schedules and manage teams to on-time completion
  • Establish and maintain relationships serving as liaison with key QTS stakeholders
  • Create & build relationships that enhance QTS's ability to be a leader in creating the World's Most Valuable Data Center Real Estate
  • This position will require 25% travel.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent professional experience
  • Five or more years of professional experience in commercial construction practices and procedures, including management of Lump Sum, Construction Management @ Risk, and Design Build project delivery methods from conceptual development through procurement to close out
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, specifically PowerPoint for use in communicating program updates to executive level, and Excel to create and maintain site program & individual project budgets
  • Be able to travel up to 25% of the time

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in design engineering or the construction industry, related to all aspects of Electrical, including power systems design, redundant systems, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash analysis.
  • 2+ years of experience applying local codes, NEC requirements, and other Electrical industry standards, procedures, and methodologies.
  • Experience designing electrical systems for Data Centers, construction, operations, and/or facility maintenance.
  • Project Management or Project Lead experience in large-scale projects.
  • Experience with Short Circuit, Coordination, and Arc Flash analysis and modeling.
  • Direct experience in the construction of data centers, critical medical, industrial, construction, oil and gas, or large-scale mechanical and power systems.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, and other Electrical industry standards, procedures, and methodologies
  • Experience with performance-based alternatives to prescriptive electrical design
  • Advance knowledge of electrical engineering systems and their integration into mission-critical environments.
  • Basic multidisciplinary knowledge of mission critical systems, design process, pre-construction requirements, and the construction process.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical issues to senior leadership or non-engineers.
  • Professional Engineering license preferred, not required
  • MBA, Masters in Engineering, Management, or related field desirable
  • Experience with delivery of mission critical data center facilities
  • Extensive experience with management of MEP trades
