HDR is looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services team in either Charlotte or Raleigh. This individual needs to be engaged with clients and the engineering community both locally and regionally. They will represent HDR in the engineering community, participate in speaking engagements, author white papers and technical publications. They will also be expected to participate in project interviews, contribute to proposal language, and assemble fees. They must also be able to leverage their network to identify project opportunities. They must be a conceptual thinker who can engage and challenge teams during the early stages of projects to inform conceptual design. They will also be expected to utilize our integrated practice to add value to our project delivery process and lead engineering teams to deliver large complex projects which are well-coordinated with a focus on high-quality design for our clients. The ICE Technician is skilled in installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical, instrumentation, and control systems. The Instrumentation, Electrical, and Controls (ICE) Technician I will assume responsibility for the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware, equipment, and systems utilized throughout the plant for production, quality control, and process safety management (PSM). What you will do: Wire, troubleshoot, and perform phase rotation verification for single- and three-phase electric motors (≤10HP). Troubleshoot standard control circuits (24VDC, 120VAC, etc.) and process signals (0-10VDC, 4-20mA, etc.). Install (in-kind), troubleshoot, and maintain industrial and motor control hardware, including sensors, operators, indicators, electro-mechanical relays, etc. Troubleshoot and replace sacrificial parts (fuses, overloads, etc.) on both energized (≤120VAC and ≤24VDC) and de-energized (>120VAC and >24VDC) circuits. Install, troubleshoot, and maintain application-specific controllers (smart relays, smart timers, process meters, scale controllers, CEMs, etc.). Verify and troubleshoot discrete and analog signals at all points, including and between the control system interface and the field device (valves, instrumentation, etc.). Perform adjustments (span, trim, etc.) and setpoint changes on field devices that do not require the use of a field communicator or other specialty interface. Troubleshoot and maintain pneumatic and electro-pneumatic hardware and systems used for the control and actuation of control valves and other pneumatically controlled hardware. Collaborate with equipment- or system-specific vendors and contractors to perform regular inspections and maintenance on equipment and systems. Audit the maintenance program (including job plans and defined procedures) and identify and recommend opportunities for improvement. Understand and comply with all OSHA, state/provincial, and local codes. Participate in plant training and safety programs. Responsibilities The Electrical Superintendent - Data Centers/Mission Critical will lead the electrical construction efforts on data center projects. This role is responsible for the field management of all electrical activities, ensuring that work is performed safely, on schedule, and to the highest standards of quality. HDR is looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services team in either Charlotte or Raleigh. This individual needs to be engaged with clients and the engineering community both locally and regionally. They will represent HDR in the engineering community, participate in speaking engagements, author white papers and technical publications. They will also be expected to participate in project interviews, contribute to proposal language, and assemble fees. They must also be able to leverage their network to identify project opportunities. They must be a conceptual thinker who can engage and challenge teams during the early stages of projects to inform conceptual design. They will also be expected to utilize our integrated practice to add value to our project delivery process and lead engineering teams to deliver large complex projects which are well-coordinated with a focus on high-quality design for our clients. The Principal Electrial Engineer must have a passion for maximizing sustainability within the project constraints while exceeding performance expectations. Local candidates are preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • A minimum of 20 years of experience

  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.

  • Extensive experience in project execution

  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard design software.

  • Must be comfortable being viewed as a technical expert in engineering analysis and design and have proven background of technical leadership on these types of projects
