We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead both our Electrical and Software Engineering teams in the development of next-generation electro-mechanical and electro-acoustic systems. Under the close and immediate supervision of an engineering mentor, Entry Level Engineers perform routine aspects of engineering assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles. Attends internal and external client meetings, conference calls and client site visits accompanied by a mentor. In collaboration with the Business Development department, represents the company's emerging professional engineers at career fairs as needed. Supports the needs of the internal project team while gaining basic understanding of external client's main interests, expectations and drivers. Coordinates with project teams, cross-functional teams and other groups within the company to provide information and assistance as directed. Works with administrative staff to coordinate tasks and prepare documents. Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work. Contributes to preparation of engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies of limited scope. Performs routine research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection. Prepares basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles used in similar engineering analysis. Understands and works within budgeted hours, schedule, and quality requirements. Completes expense reports and timesheets in a timely and accurate manner and seeks direction from supervisor when conflicts arise. Remains aware and demonstrates understanding of project scope management.

EDUCATION AND/OR PROFESSIONAL LICENSE(s):

  • B.S. Electrical Engineering or related field required
  • M.S. preferred
  • Training in supervision and leadership preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus in new product design and development.
  • 2-5 years of experience in supervision desired
  • Experience in military programs desired
  • Experience developing electro-acoustic products a plus
  • Security clearance desired or ability to obtain.

ABOUT THE JOB!

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead both our Electrical and Software Engineering teams in the development of next-generation electro-mechanical and electro-acoustic systems. In this role, you will set technical direction, oversee cross-discipline design and development, and ensure seamless integration of hardware and software throughout the product lifecycle - from concept to production. You'll mentor engineers across both domains, align resources with program priorities, and collaborate with leadership to shape product and technology roadmaps that support business growth. As a key technical and people leader, you will foster innovation, drive engineering standards, and build a high-performing, collaborative team that delivers world-class solutions to our customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, mentor, and guide engineers, designers, and technicians in product design and development activities
  • Plan, estimate, and track engineering work for program budgets and schedules
  • Contribute to bids and proposals, including conceptual design, cost estimates, and technical writing
  • Set team goals, evaluate performance, and support career development of direct reports
  • Assist in staffing decisions, hiring, and training initiatives
  • Approve timecards, leave requests, and manage daily resource allocation
  • Drive continuous improvement through design standards, design reviews, and lessons-learned practices
  • Ensure compliance with site quality management system requirements
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports, recommendations, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop system architectures, block diagrams, and detailed electrical designs (RF, digital, analog, power)
  • Review and approve schematic capture, PCB layouts, and designs for reliability, manufacturability, and testability
  • Evaluate outsourcing opportunities, develop technical documentation, and oversee contractors as needed
  • Act as technical lead on complex development programs
  • Support transition to production with test strategies, process controls, and test equipment development
  • Collaborate with cross-functional groups to achieve enterprise and departmental goals

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Expertise in digital circuit design with embedded controllers and/or digital signal processors
  • Strong analog and/or audio design background (e.g., microphone amplifiers, audio filters, switching regulators)
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-461/464 testing and EMI/EMC mitigation techniques
  • Proficiency with schematic capture tools (Cadence/OrCAD preferred) and mixed-signal PCB design for EMI, SI, and DFM best practices
  • Skilled in use of lab instruments (oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum/network analyzers, etc.)
  • Competence in technical documentation and presentations using MS Office tools
  • Desired technical expertise in:

o DSPs, microcontrollers, and embedded systems

o Low-power/battery-powered designs

o Signal processing and feedback control systems

o A/D, D/A, CODEC integration

o Linear and switch-mode power conversion

Software Engineering Collaboration

  • Understanding of embedded software and firmware development practices
  • Familiarity with software development life cycle (SDLC), configuration management, and version control tools (e.g., Git, Jira, DOORS)
  • Ability to review software/firmware requirements for compatibility with hardware design
  • Strong cross-discipline communication skills to align hardware and software requirements, testing, and validation
  • Knowledge of programming languages used in embedded systems (C/C++, Python, MATLAB/Simulink) a plus

Leadership & Management

  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and engage cross-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Skilled in planning and coordinating resources across multiple projects
  • Ability to estimate technical effort, budgets, and schedules
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills (8D, fishbone, etc.)
  • Experience in workforce talent evaluation and performance management
