As a member of the circuit design team, you will be responsible for circuit development for the program enterprise. About You and The Role The Senior Electrical Engineer will develop power electronics focused avionics for our next generation aircraft. Responsibilities Work closely with mechanical, software, and systems teams to conceptualize, specify and implement a novel robotic manipulator Prototype electrical systems at both system and board levels Generate design documentation such as schematics, layouts, wiring diagrams, and assembly and cable drawings Analyze circuits and electrical systems for thermal, power, and other performance factors Specify and select electrical components such as microcontrollers, servo drives, sensors, and safety systems for robotics and automation uses Design systems compliant with safety standards and regulatory requirements Convert prototype designs to custom circuit board specifications Capture electronics schematics and generate PCB designs for manufacturing Create and execute validation and acceptance test plans for intermediate and final products, including test fixture design and software development Participate in debugging and root cause analysis related to hardware and software defect resolution Interface with internal and external manufacturing teams to enhance design for test, manufacturing, and assembly Identify and develop new technologies including innovative power, motor, control, and sensing solutions Must Have Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant industry experience Very strong electrical engineering fundamentals Familiarity with electronics lab tools Experience with simulation tools (ex: LTSpice, PSpice) Excellent communication (verbal & written); will be expected to develop detailed build assembly instructions and diagrams Proven experience designing, prototyping and debugging PCBs A positive attitude and a strong interest in learning new ideas and skills Exceptional attention to detail and engineering discipline Capable of multi-tasking and managing multiple deadlines Great team player able to perform within a dynamic start-up environment Nice To Have Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of relevant industry experience Proficiency in using Altium Designer Experience designing electronics for functional safety systems Experience designing electronics for lightweight, space-constrained systems Experience with motors and motor controllers Experience designing power electronic systems Experience implementing embedded systems on robots and troubleshooting hardware Experience with battery integration and battery management Experience with embedded systems programming Proficiency in Python or C/C++ Qualities Creative, curious, analytical, and disciplined A passion for building things. Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking for an Electrical Engineer to support the Circuit Design organization in San Diego, CA.

As a member of the circuit design team, you will be responsible for circuit development for the program enterprise. You will perform detailed

electrical circuit design, circuit level analysis, and LabView Design. You will support qualification testing by preparing test procedures and reports.

Finally, you will support hardware production manufacturing.

Note: This position can be filled at the Electrical Engineer or Principal Electrical Engineer level.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Basic qualifications for an Electrical Engineer- Bachelors in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 2 years engineering related experience, OR Master's in STEM with 0 years of experience

  • Basic qualifications for a Principal Electrical Engineer- Bachelors in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 5 years engineering related experience, OR Master's in STEM with 3 years of experience, OR a PhD in STEM and 1 year of experience

  • Experience with schematic capture and board layout using Altium Designer

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Secret DoD Clearance

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on mixed circuit design

  • Experience with OrCAD, Pspice, or LTspice for circuit simulation

  • Experience with IPC and Military standards, and Northrop Grumman Circuit Card Design specifications

  • Statement of work includes detailed electrical circuit design, circuit level analysis, support qualification testing, preparing of test procedures and reports, and supporting hardware production manufacturing.

Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00Salary Range 2: $110,300.00 - $165,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
