Prepares work area for installation of equipment. Installs or assists with installation of electrical components. Connects wiring and equipment as per code and job specification. Operates equipment only if trained and certified to operate. (Note: Powder activated tools, and JLG lifts and other operations that may require certification and training before operating). Sets up and operates tools such as hydraulic benders, power threaders, power pullers and cable vacuum systems. Learning or be able to read blueprints and electrical drawings and install as specified. Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances per drawings or plans. Secure and lock up equipment after use. A proven track record of delivering safe projects on schedule and within budget. Excellent working knowledge of the Building Codes. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Assist with complex electrical installations in a fast-paced and fast-production environment. Be proficient in type NM (Romex) and/or MC wiring methods is a plus. Work from all type ladders (step ladders up to 14', "A" frame ladders and all size extension ladders and carry and relocate up to 12' step ladder by oneself. Employee's personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed weight limit of ladder (Class 1-250 lbs., Class 1A-300 lbs.). You will be responsible for review of PV and ESS projects design by providing technical expertise in the interconnection, construction, and assisting in the commissioning of distributed energy resources (DERs). What you'll do: Specify and review equipment shop drawings for switchgear, transformers, reclosers and other major electrical equipment. During construction, prepare Daily Log Reports that indicate progression of project to outline deficiencies in schedule, track completed construction activities, highlight safety incidents, and monitor compliance of work with specifications/drawings. During construction, perform other miscellaneous duties including maintaining redline construction drawing markups, completing weekly safety audits, communicating scope changes, confirming utility locates, and signing crew timesheets. In general, occasionally climb ladders and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Work closely with multi-functional teammates to develop robust and reliable architectures with electrical functionality driven by simulation, analysis, test. Deliver documentation to support design of PCAs such as, technical reviews, test results, and theory of operations. Perform component, board, and subsystem level testing to ensure conformance to requirements. Testing may include EMI and ESD analysis, development of test fixturing, and thermal analysis, in addition to other specialties for specific projects. Participate in design reviews, fault safety analysis, and design FMEA analysis across the broader team. Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience: Bachelor's with 8+ years experience or advance degree with 6+ years experience in electrical engineering or a related fields. Demonstrated proficiencies in Altium Designer or related CAD tool for schematics and PCB layout. Experience designing and validating analog and digital electrical systems from feasibility through to production. Ability to debug and test using high speed oscilloscopes and other test tools. Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience: Experience with serial communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, etc. Design for electromagnetic compatibility and immunity, electrically fast transients, electrostatic discharge, etc. Design for test, manufacture, assembly. Experience in Medical Devices, 21 CFR Part 820, IEC60601-1, etc. Experience with embedded systems, and in using C to write basic bring-up code for microcontrollers. To better support complex projects, Helix Electric has a need for Electrical Trainee

DUTIES & SCOPE:

  • Assist with assembly, installation, maintenance and testing of electrical equipment and wiring systems in commercial and residential settings.
  • Prepares work area for installation of equipment.
  • Installs or assists with installation of electrical components.
  • Connects wiring and equipment as per code and job specification.
  • Operates equipment only if trained and certified to operate. (Note: Powder activated tools, and JLG lifts and other operations that may require certification and training before operating).
  • Sets up and operates tools such as hydraulic benders, power threaders, power pullers and cable vacuum systems.
  • Learning or be able to read blueprints and electrical drawings and install as specified.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances per drawings or plans.
  • Secure and lock up equipment after use.
  • A proven track record of delivering safe projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the Building Codes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Assist with complex electrical installations in a fast-paced and fast-production environment.
  • Be proficient in type NM (Romex) and/or MC wiring methods is a plus.
  • Work from all type ladders (step ladders up to 14', "A" frame ladders and all size extension ladders and carry and relocate up to 12' step ladder by oneself.
  • Employee's personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed weight limit of ladder (Class 1-250 lbs., Class 1A-300 lbs.).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, snow.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, and gloves always), respirator when required.
  • Able to work 8-10 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime, and night shifts as required.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, including crawling, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, sitting, reaching, able to routinely lift heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds and pushing and pulling of objects is required.
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
  • Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.
