Research controls and instrumentation devices available to industry that provide the best solution to process needs. Diagnose and repair malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, drives, starters, and process instruments. Replace/repair/calibrate faulty electrical and instrumentation components such as relays, switches, contactors, solenoids, photo eyes, flow meters, level and pressure indicators / transmitters, RTD's, etc. Repair/replace faulty electronic components such as PCB's. Troubleshoot PLC/DCS systems and associated apparatus by programming or editing programs and control loops. Write PLC/DCS programs for new equipment or alterations of existing equipment. Troubleshoot all aspects of 480V 3-phase electrical systems with or without schematics. Troubleshoot, align and repair 4-20mA circuits Read and troubleshoot using technical manuals, electrical diagrams, and PLC logic / DCS language. Troubleshoot valve and pumping controls. Set-up wiring for new valves to be put in service. Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision. Planning • Responsible for or assists in the planning layout of wiring installs, conduit runs, and electrical apparatus within plant operations. Human Resources • Comply with HR policies and procedures. Comply with all relevant employment laws. Packaging • Knowledge of packaging equipment in a food manufacturing environment is preferred. Role Definition

Caterpillar Switchgear, part of the Electric Power Division, currently has an opening for an Electrical Design Engineer located in Alpharetta, Georgia. In this role, you will design, develop and build, Low and Medium voltage switchgear for generator paralleling applications.

What You Will Do

  • Interpret customer specifications and drawings, and apply them while considering industry regulations and NEC, UL 508, UL 891,UL 1558, UL MV, CSA 22-2, and ANSI requirements

  • Create bill of materials in ERP system

  • Provide direction to purchasing and procurement

  • Provide direction to CAD designers to create wiring and assembly drawings

  • Support production during equipment manufacturing

  • Write and validate PLC code for generator control systems, interfacing with various communication protocols

Top Candidates Will Also Have

  • PLC programming experience with Control Expert (Schneider), Studio 5000 (Allen Bradley), or Codesys (DEIF)

  • Experienced with UL508A control enclosure design

  • Power Engineering and Multi-Function Relay Programming/Operation

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience (desirable)
