URA is the institutional authority for the negotiation and acceptance of financial support or other contractually-binding obligations in the form of a contract, grant, or agreement, including material transfer agreements and clinical trials. Job Summary The job executes a range of activities to support the functional areas of University Research Administration. Supports research, training, and other sponsored activities at the University, building upon knowledge of the University, processes, and customers. Assists in the development of research compliance education programs. The Post Award Research Specialist is responsible for identifying and remediating deviations from established account management expectations. Responsible for all financial and non-financial post-award activities for all sponsored projects for the University and acts as a liaison to sponsors for all departments and units assigned to the position. Responsibilities Distributes awards through AURA, establishing accounts in the financial system and updating records as necessary. Processes all concurrence requests (CRs) and continuations (CNs) in AURA; ensures cost share is properly established and reported. Directs preparation of, monitors and approves sponsor required fiscal and management reports. Prepares and/or reviews billing reports and requests invoices as appropriate. Completes/reviews and approves back-up documentation as necessary prior to submission of reports. Reviews and approves cost transfers. Assists billing area as needed to claim payments. Manages all close-out activities for sponsored projects, coordinating efforts between the PI, department/unit, and Sponsor. Administers and/or coordinates project transfers and closeouts when a faculty member leaves the University. Communicates and collaborates with University departments/units to facilitate smooth transition throughout the full life cycle. The individual is a member of a Team and must contribute to the team effort, as needed. This involves assisting colleagues to ensure timely service to departments, units, and sponsors as needed and to perform backup duties during vacation or sick leaves of other award team staff. Through interaction with a variety of federal and non-federal funding agencies, faculty, and staff, provides professional assistance with the administration and coordination of proposals and awards in research and training. Maintains correspondence between the agency and University community to obtain and process necessary pre- and post-award information. Reviews and processes various pre- and post-award activities. With moderate guidance, helps to obtain sponsor approvals for major changes to project work scope, etc. Transmits proposals and manages post award administration, gathers and submits closeout documentation, and maintains records. The Pre-Admission RN role will cross train in the Pre-Op/Phase II department, providing patient care as needed. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: In collaboration with other members of the health care team, the nurse uses the nursing process to complete the preoperative physical, cognitive, spiritual, and psychosocial assessment of patients awaiting surgery. Initiates contact with the patient/family when surgery scheduling is complete. Performs a thorough assessment of the patient's medical history and current health status, including a complete accounting of the patient's current medications. Documents all pertinent information in Epic. Ensures completion of all pre-op testing, history and physical, pre-op orders, and pre-op patient education. Serves as a liaison between the primary physician, surgeon, anesthesia, and the Surgery Center. Accountable for obtaining pertinent information and reports (H&P, lab, EKG, etc.) from the physician offices. Reviews the information and consults with anesthesia and/or surgeon for any issues or concerns relating to appropriateness of performing surgery at BTNRH, according to anesthesia criteria for such review. Enters physician orders for surgery into the Epic, based on respective physician orders. Verifies that the correct surgery, including site and side, is scheduled and that all pre-admission orders have been entered. Educates patient regarding their surgery, including time of surgery and their pre-op instructions. Reviews any pertinent information with anesthesia and/or surgeon, as needed. Assures appropriate information management and documentation using the nursing process in accordance with hospital OR policy; communicates with other members of the health care team. Formulates plan of care and reviews and revises plan on an ongoing basis. Able to plan and give care based on the patient's age and level of development. In collaboration with the other members of the health care team, the nurse uses the nursing process to assess the patient/family understanding and response to care provided; and patient/family educational needs. The nurse redirects care as needed. Communicates closely with the Surgery Scheduling department keeping updated on newly scheduled surgeries. Participates in staff meetings. Serves as a resource to Surgery Center staff. Maintains "The Joint Commission" standards on an ongoing basis and assists in unit responsibilities for readiness for "The Joint Commission" visits. Participates in department performance improvement activities involving other staff members as appropriate, and posts results for staff to review. Serves on hospital or system committees as assigned; maintains two-way communication between Surgery Center staff and assigned committee. Provides patient care and education according to the patient population served. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to apply the knowledge of a professional Registered Nurse acquired through the completion of an approved course of study in nursing leading to an associate degree, diploma, or baccalaureate degree in nursing. Ability to maintain licensure and professional growth by participation in professional conferences. Ability to demonstrate clinical competence in providing patient and family education on upcoming surgical procedure. Ability to apply knowledge of all ages and developmental levels. Ability and willingness to contribute to staff development within the nursing department through active participation.
